First pictures of Sarah Palin at the Terri Schiavo fundraiser are coming in. Update!

The first reports are that the crowd is somewhat underwhelming. Which is fine, because so is the speaker.

I kid you not that Palin just said this in her speech: "God does not drive parked cars." Well good to know she wrote her own speech for a change.

I was actually unaware that God was a licensed driver in ANY type of motor vehicle.

I gotta read the Bible more often! You miss so much!

Update: More from our in house spies; "We are not to play God and snuff out the life that He's created."

Says the woman with the famous Wite-Out pregnancy termination.

Update 2: Palin's appearance is also, as to be expected, drawing some negative press:

Nonetheless, despite the serious and heartfelt concerns of people involved in the Schiavo case, and despite Palin’s oft-stated concern for the disabled due to the condition of her youngest child, the inclusion of Palin as the keynote speaker and a $25,000-a-session fundraising ploy seems to take away from the substantive issues that merit thoughtful discussion and debate.

You know if you make a living off of grifting using the memory of your dead daughter, perhaps you don't want to draw attention to it by hiring the Queen of the Grifters to give a speech and allowing her to pimp herself out afterwards for $25,000 a "visit."

Just saying.

Update 3: I think someone scared her wig. It looks like it has its back up.

It is pretty common knowledge that the Mama Grizzly tried to snuff out her little cub with extra chromosomes by taking an all day trip from Texas to Anchorage--not telling the stewardesses that her water had broken in Texas and that she was in active labor--not even going to a medical doctor for an exam at any of the hospitals along the way even though this was her fifth child. Trig was a survivor--tough little cub, who wears hearing aides and glasses when being cared for by the nannies and then these are taken off when Mama and the photographers come to visit. Hardly seems like she would be the one chosen to speak about the quality of life for one and all--but then, she did try to make the speech a political statement about President Obama and his death panels. And the irony of it all is that she was speaking about Terri, who became obsessed with her weight and appearance and that is exactly what is happening with the Mama Grizzly.

Google gives a ton of hits for "god does not drive a parked car". Evidently it's a Christian catch-phrase. It's supposed to make one want to actively do god's will.

Looks like the person helping her with her wig forgot to cover her horns!

Big Gulps? OMG! Same speech rehashed. They managed to get big gulp cups to sell? Pawning your dead sisters memory in an event with BIG GULPS, when your entire family testifies that she had bulimia and that was the cause of the collapse in the first place. They would later deny this saying Michael told them to say this for the money. Well you thought you were going to get some of that dough.
Anyone go look at Terri's childhood pictures, she was a lifetime heavy girl and went on a doctors diet probably taking it to the next level when she got thin. Most dieters gain the weight back within 18 months. She got so thin her periods stopped, a sign of severe dieting.

      Big Gulps, Really?

      Delete
    8. The only good thing about keeping Schiavo's name in the news is to underscore the dangers of eating disorders. Bulimia can cause cardiac arrhythmia that can lead to sudden death, or to (as in Terri's case) coma.

Len Bias' cocaine-related death in 1985 made several people I know stop their occasional use of freebase or crack. Perhaps Schiavo's name will be permanently associated with bulimia, as Karen Carpenter's with anorexia, and Bias with cocaine?

The only life Terri Shiavo had was artificial. No machines, no Terri. What's natural about that? It certainly wasn't "God" keeping her going.

My sister broke her femur. A blood clot then went to her lungs. She ended up in ICU. A very vocal and politically active Right to Life MD happened to be on duty when this happened so he got his clutches into her. He called me daily to say things like today her liver is failing but she's doing better. The next day it would be today her kidneys failed but she is doing better. Every organ system in her body failed like dominoes. He kept insisting she was better when it was obvious to everyone else she was already gone. At one point I wanted to talk about what next. Before I got two syllables out of my mouth he said he wasn't going to go there. That's before I could actually say where I was going.

My sister spent a month in ICU before she started having non-stop seizures. At that point he called and told me he was going to turn off the machines. As soon as that call ended the phone immediately rang again. It was him telling me she died. I found all his behavior extremely abusive to all of us, including to my sister. Her regular MD would never have done that to her. I know that for a fact because her regular MD is and was then a personal friend of mine. He was cut out of the decision making because she was in the hospital already for the femur repair. It fell to the person on duty.

I immediately made my own advance directive about what to do should something like that happen to me and it was obvious I was not going to survive. My MD helped me. He told me I could name that specific doctor as someone I did not want anywhere near me. I did exactly that. Also included a statement that said I did not want anybody with his same political agenda making those decisions for me. Included other specific names of MDs I knew had those agendas. Then I filed copies of the directive with everybody under the sun, including the hospital. Of course, this guy would never admit I would not survive so there still is that glitch. I hope the political agenda statement covers that should I ever be in that situation. Hopefully not but life is risk.

First, Thanks for sharing your experience, and my condolences on your loss.

I had a dear friend, we spoke by phone almost daily and our families vacationed together. Sometimes we'd talk about serious issues, and she made it abundantly clear to me that she didn't want a funeral and burial, she wanted a memorial and cremation. I told her to put it in writing, have it notarized and kept in a safe place.
She fell asleep behind the wheel, crashed into a concrete median, and was thrown out of the car, hit and dragged 200ft by another car.
Her family, against her wishes, had an open casket viewing, funeral mass and burial. I can't describe my last memory of seeing her in that condition in her coffin, it haunts me to this day.
Her husband found the paper in their safe deposit box and knew, but said "funerals are for the living and cremation was "selfish".
After that fiasco, My husband and I had our final directives put down on paper, pre arranged and paid for what we wanted and let everyone know, including our doctors.

It's uncomfortable to think of, but it's important. No one should have their wishes ignored.

I was just a little girl when my family left me alone in the airport bathroom with my dying great-grandmother to run and get help. This was before everyone had cell phones, I was only 6 or so. It was terrifying, knowing that something awful was happening/going to happen, but to this day I still remember the utter calmness my great grandmother had as she patted my hand and said, "I love you." I never got to see her after that. I remember being in the hospital waiting area and I remember overhearing relatives (I can't recall which ones exactly) arguing with doctors, saying that my G-grandmother was tired of fighting, tired of being kept alive artificially, and tired of the pain she was being caused. "She just wants to die. She's ready for it."
Almost two decades later, her daughter-- my grandma-- fell into a diabetic coma. Me, my mother, and my newborn son traveled down to live with my grandpa as he wrestled with the decision of what to do. They told him there was significant brain damage, but that "with a lot of therapy" she'd be "just fine," albeit with some additional handicaps. But apparently she'd seen this coming and had made her wishes crystal clear to my grandpa: no more. After all the poking and prodding and injecting and cutting that doctor's had already done to her, she did not even want to be embalmed. No autopsy, she'd said. Discontinuing her dialysis treatments was the hardest, most gut-wrenching thing I have ever witnessed to this day. My grandfather and her had been married since they were seniors in high school. They've been alive since the mid 1930s. Saying it wasn't an easy decision to make is a fucking insult of understatement.
Me and my husband have made clear what we want done. I do not want a funeral for myself and I will not be put in the ground. We both want to donate our bodies to science and are both organ donors. I honestly believe that will be the only way our corpses will live on: by helping someone else in some small way, even if it's just aiding in teaching a new generation of doctors the knowledge they need to save lives.
Me and my husband both believe people have the right to choose when they die, and that quality of life greatly outweighs the quantity of life.

I am so sorry your family was tortured by a RTL doctor. I will never understand how they could take over your life and twist the fate of a loved one.

      My condolences to you.

When my aunt died, with no directive, we kicked a Neurosurgeon off her case because we knew something was fucked up with the second surgery and two nurses told us to investigate it. Turns out they were right. But his attitude pissed us off so much we told him to leave her room and never come back and had then write in her chart =family fired doctor X. We took it before the state medical boards and he got a slap on the wrist. I don't sue but I believe that they will pay for stupidity down the road.

And the ACA signed by President Obama would have included a section about counseling families on end-of-life matters except that the GOP, spearheaded at the time by Sarah Palin, went on a tear about "death panels." My husband and I have prepared our medical directives and they are on file with our doctor, our local hospital and our attorney. We want our son to do the same but he's in his thirties and still thinks that life goes on forever.

Palin lied when she repeatedly claimed to have said, "Thanks, but no thanks" to the Bridge to Nowhere; in fact, she openly campaigned for the federal project when running for governor.

Palin lied when she denied that Wasilla's police chief and librarian had been fired; in fact, both were given letters of termination the previous day.

Palin lied when she wrote in the NYT that a comprehensive review by Alaska wildlife officials showed that polar bears were not endangered; in fact, email correspondence between those scientists showed the opposite.

Palin lied when she claimed in her convention speech that an oil gas pipeline "began" under her guidance; in fact, the pipeline was years from breaking ground, if at all.

Palin lied when she told Charlie Gibson that she does not pass judgment on gay people; in fact, she opposes all rights between gay spouses and belongs to a church that promotes conversion therapy.

Palin lied when she denied having said that humans do not contribute to climate change; in fact, she had previously proclaimed that human activity was not to blame.

Palin lied when she claimed that Alaska produces 20 percent of the country's domestic energy supply; in fact, the actual figures, based on any interpretation of her words, are much, much lower.

Palin lied when she insisted that Wooten's divorce proceedings had caused his confidential records to become public; in fact, court officials confirmed they released no such records.

Palin lied when she suggested to Katie Couric that she was involved in trade missions with Russia; in fact, she has never even met with Russian officials.

Palin lied when she told Shimon Peres that the only flag in her office was the Israeli flag; in fact, she has several flags.

Palin lied when she said that "reported" allegations of her banning Harry Potter as mayor was easily refutable because it had not even been written yet; in fact, the first book in that series was published in 1998 - two years into her first term - and such rumors were never reported by the media, only circulated as emails.

Palin lied when she denied having participated in a clothes audit with campaign laywers; in fact, the Washington Times later confirmed those details.

Palin lied when asked about Couric's question regarding her reading habits; in fact, Couric's words were not, "What do you read up there in Alaska?" or anything close to condescension.

Palin lied when she mischaracterized the "$1200 check" given to Alaskans as the permanent fund dividend check; in fact, that fund had yielded $2,069 per person, and she claimed otherwise to obscure the fact that Alaskans also received a $1200 rebate check from a windfall profits tax on oil companies - a tax widely criticized by Republicans.

Palin lied when she claimed to be unaware of a turkey being slaughtered behind her during a filmed interview; in fact, the cameraman said she had picked the spot herself, while the slaughter was underway.

Palin lied when she said that former aide John Bitney's "amicable" departure was for "personal" reasons; in fact, Bitney said he was fired because of his relationship with the wife of Palin's friend, plus a Palin spokesperson later claimed "poor job performance" for his firing - without elaborating.

Palin lied when she said she kept her running injury a secret on the campaign trail; in fact, her bandaged hand was clearly visible in photographs and the story was widely talked about.

Palin lied when she claimed that Alaska has spent "millions of dollars" on litigation related to her ethics complaints; in fact, that figure is much, much lower, and she had initiated the most expensive inquiry.

Palin lied when she denied that the Alaska Independence Party supports secession and denied that her husband had been a member; in fact, even the McCain campaign noted that the party's very existence is based on secession and that Todd was a member for seven years.

The other day, Sarah wrote a post about World Autism Day:
Today is World Autism Awareness Day. There is such a need for us to understand and appreciate the complexities and mysteries of the outward challenges of those who suffer from autism, as well as their inner goodness, intelligence and unique gifts.

If anyone ever described Trig as "suffering from DS" Sarah would be the first person to blow a gasket and scream that he is not suffering. Yet, she thoughtlessly used that word to describe people who have autism.

People who do have Down syndrome or autism are alive, and with training and therapy, they can lead productive, useful and involved lives. Teri Schiavo was in a permanent vegetative state, something that could not be overcome with training, therapy, prayer or medication. Having a disabled child and having a child in a persistent vegative state are not the same thing.

And, Sarah is not an expert on either. Ask her about Trig's therapy. Ask her why Trig doesn't wear his glasses. Ask her how many words he can say, if he can feed himself, what he eats, if he can go to the toilet, if he can dress himself, what colors can he recognize, anything. Sarah can only see the "outward challenges." She has no idea what is going on inside (besides "goodness.") I think that we might get a post in a couple of days to answer the challenge. Let's see how long it takes for her to learn what Trig can do.

God does not drive 'parked' cars ! Stuck ? Time to move on ! Get in the flow of the Holy Spirit's
leadings. Move out of your 'stuckness' and into the WORD of God ! God's word, grows us, shows
us many things and begins a great 'glow' in us !
Sometimes God parks cars. Sometimes He parks them on the ferry called 'FAITH'. Sometimes He ferries us under broken bridges, damaging floods and oceans of tears on the good ferry, 'FAITH'.

I found this on the internet, and all that I can say is that when Sarah uses that expression, "God doesn't drive parked cars," she is issuing the dog whistle to the religious faithful. They can take whatever meaning they want, as indicated in the above text. I would just like to remind Sarah and her faithful followers that there were no cars in the Bible. There were no cars in the New Testament nor in the Old Testament. God may work in mysterious ways, and they are not for mere humans to know or understand. And just what brand of car would God drive or park, anyway? Nope, God doesn't need a car to get around because He is supposed to be everywhere.

A real good chance at snuffing out a possible life is to board a transcontinental flight after an amniotic fluid leak without a medical check for a premature Down Syndrome fetus when you are high risk (over age 40, 7th pregnancy, history of miscarriages) and then avoid neonatal intensive care unit equipped hospitals to be induced to give birth in a small hospital not even rated to handle twins.

Not to mention having amniocentesis (which could have killed him) just to satisfy her own curiosity. How is that "pro-life"?

      Delete
    2. Anonymous9:57 PM

anon 8:15 is right. Flying while in labor, leaking amniotic fluid is a good way to hasten things along, especially since the plane is at lower pressure. It is even more dangerous for a woman over the age of 40 with a history of miscarriages, a premature special needs child-- yes that would be dangerous, even life threatening. Except for a couple of details.

The flight attendants are trained to check every seat belt when the plane takes off and lands, and every time the seat belt light comes on. Given Sarah's advanced state of "pregnancy" (according to two photos that were staged at the Alaska legislature), it is amazing that not one flight attendant noticed that Governor Palin was pregnant and might need a seat belt extender or a pillow. Four flights, two from Alaska to Texas and two back again, multiplied by all of those seat belt checks and not one person realized that Palin was pregnant. The thing about airplane seats is that they are not soft, or cushions. They are rigid and push all of your weight forward. And not one person noticed that she was pregnant or needed a seat belt extender. And no one realized that she was in labor and leaking fluid. You'd think that would require a couple of trips to the bathroom, just to make sure that everything was all right.

Then, after passing up emergency care in Texas because of some fish picker nonsense, the Palins also passed up the well equipped hospital in Anchorage in favor of driving an extra hour to MatSu which does not have the facilities to deliver a premature, special needs baby. Sarah's doctor is a family doctor, while there would have been neonatal specialists in Anchorage.

If Sarah was so concerned about the life of Terri Schiavo, she didn't seem nearly that concerned about the life of a premature special needs baby according to the wild story that she loves to tell. Perhaps he had already arrived, had his neonatal care and was being "delivered" to MatSu in order to meet his new family under cover of darkness, when there are no visitors in the hospital, and a minimum staff.

Even if they were wares whose proceeds went towards the foundation, does the article have anything to do with life-support legislation? No, it only has to do with Sarah's grudges. And she can't even put them away for one night.

Why can't she leave her grudge gags and gimmicks home; why does she always have to have to bring her battles and her middle finger wherever she goes. http://blogs.phillymag.com/the_philly_post/2013/04/05/sarah-palin-serves-red-meat-philly-fans-terri-schiavo/

....."Well, Palin is coming back to town. And this time she’s sticking to safer confines.

Specifically, she’ll be at a fundraiser at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, a $150-a-head dinner that follows a special mass by Archbishop Chaput to celebrate the life of Terri Schiavo, the poor, unfortunate Florida woman who became the center of a family battle—and ultimately, a national debate—over whether she should be allowed to die after collapsing into a vegetative state.

Which makes sense. If you’ve listened to Palin lately, the notable thing about her is that she has absolutely nothing new to say about the issues facing the nation. Did you see her speech to a conservative political conference last month? It was the world’s angriest Jay Leno monologue, full of tired one-liners against the president that were tired the last time she used them.

So of course she’s latched onto Terri Schiavo. Next up, we can probably expect her to weigh in against the Panama Canal Treaty.".......

The good news for the rest of us: If this is the cause Sarah Palin is associating herself with these days, it means she’s not a serious candidate for president any more. Her fan base, it appears, has been reduced to that small rump of the Republican base so iron-deficient that it can only survive with a steady diet of bloody red meat.

That’s not enough to win elections. Unfortunately, though, it’s apparently enough to keep Palin on the road in perpetuity, a sideshow distratcion outside the rooms where the grown-ups are talking, forever. Maybe she’ll at least have time to take in a hockey game.

      No, actually I don't.

If Sarah follows her own argument about the sanctity of life, she will next be appearing at rallies against the death penalty. If the state is not allowed to trample on the rights of the living, that includes the prisoners it wants to put to death.

Exactly-- how many deaths and injuries have been caused by Sarah's, and our, "warriors"?
Did God want the children at Sandy Hook Elementary School to die -- because limiting gun ownership is not in God's plan? Did he cause the hatred that dwelled in the heart of the shooter? What about the more than 2,000 Americans who've been killed by guns since December?
I live in a decidedly blue state that doesn't have the death penalty. One reason is that, for decades, the Catholic church was against it so strongly that it could never pass. I still don't think it would, but I don't know if the church would speak up much against the death penalty nowadays.

The Terri Schiavo story is tragic. Her brain had turned to jello, yet some people who loved her could not let go and prolonged the body's destruction unnaturally through medical interventions.

I went through this process with my mom. She had early onset alzheimers. 10 years later, her body was kept alive while she had no responses to us for at least 2 years. Dad had her cared for and even dressed and propped up in a wheelchair. Her body was dependent on a variety of tubes in her body. When we finally received the call that she had passed, I believe it was do someone finally the plug. And I am grateful to that person.

Having seen how some people cling to every last hope despite all evidence that the end has come and is being falsely prolonged, I did all the legal documents to prevent this from happening to me. And I have been fully blunt with my family to let me go. Our time always comes. Let me go when that happens to me. Go ahead and mourn if you must, but don't prolong my agony because of your inability to accept that all life is temporary.

Piper is the only one named after commercial brands, it's a bit sad. I think she was the only one named by Dud, and he named her after his plane and his snowmobile due to a complete lack of lateral thinking skills. Probably had his hand in his pocket at the time. I wouldn't think Piper's initials being PIG is an accident, given the fuss the Heaths make about names.

Parked Cars and God. Did Terri Schiavo's parents keep her parked in that care facility for how many years against what God had planned for her?

If you wear wigs, platform shoes, tons of make up, and have surgically enhanced your appearance with fake body parts, have you gone against God's creation of you?

Since God provided good food stuffs and rain and spring water to drink, are you going against God drinking a huge cup of manufactured, carbonated, artificially sweetened, fake flavored beverage? Bread and wine aren't good enough for you? Gulp?

For the record, I am a rationalist and don't believe that god stuff. But if you do, please ask yourself what you are buying into?

I don't think that Sarah Palin's "white-out pregnancy termination" was any different from what many of us women experience and call a "miscarriage" but the medical and insurance communities call a "spontaneous abortion." Sarah, in her great ignorance freaked out at the written term and made the office staff white the scary words out or maybe she stole her records and whited out the words herself. The woman is truly bizarre.

These people like to believe that they are loving and caring. If that were true, why would they force a person to be prisoner in a body that no longer can function as it once had? Why would they want to force the indignities of not being able to do the simplest tasks such as feeding one's self and relieving one's self on another? It's like an old Twilight horror story about being trapped with no chance of escape--trapped in a horrific reality of reliance on others for all that person's basic needs.

If someone is forced to live on machines for an extended period (in this case years) and if life cannot continue if machines are removed then shouldn't it be considered God's will that they die? Shouldn't these supposed Christians believe that their own God wants that individual set free from the constraints of a body and a mind that can no longer function without the help of man-made tools?

I've been thinking about God not driving parked cars. Sarah, that's exactly what Terri Schiavo's situation was. She was figuratively a "parked car." Her motor was not turned on. God would not have wanted to "drive her" because she was already beyond life. That is the whole issue with life support for people whose brains have ceased to function. As long as the brain is going, one could argue that God is still driving the car. When the brain has ceased to function, the car is not going anywhere and God is well aware of that.

Schiavo is brain dead, let her go.

What's sad is looking at the picture of a baby that's alive and being used as a prop. His fucking mother is so damn dumb and into herself that this poor kid is out at night not wearing shoes or socks. Trig Palin looks so sad because his grandma barely took the time to put his shirt on. Sarah didn't even take the time to put Trig's arms into his shirt sleeves.

"We are not to play God and snuff out the life that He's created."

Ahem, in the Terry Schiavo case those who would keep her on artificial life support through feeding tubes are the ones who are playing God. You can't have it both ways that we have to let God's will rein in the birth of a conceived child, yet thwart God's will in a person's inevitable death.

I have never understood why the Terri's family wanted to keep her going in the state she was in. She could not respond to them and would never again be the person they remembered. Terri was gone. It made me sad to see that poor shell of a human being. Sadly, by their selfishness, millions of people remember their daughter/sister as that, instead of the person they say she was before. That does not seem like loving actions. I remember the autopsy results showed she would have never been able to sustain life without medical intervention. Once they found that out, their continued attempts to get money from her name is sickening.

At that time I was still Catholic and I got so tired of the constant barrage from the pulpit and publications supporting this family. That was one of the final straws that helped me break away from religion. It seemed to me that "God" had tried to free her and religious idiots were using her for their own purposes.

Just curious how much money her family have made off of using her all these years.
