This is one of those segments that is SO well done that you really wish the actual cable news channels would follow suit.
The way Oliver traps that gun lobbyist into contradicting himself, demonstrating his desperation to ignore the facts, and making up false equivalencies to protect his case, is a thing of absolute beauty.
That was a thing of beauty! That lobbyist is full of crap. Wouldn't you love to see massive piles of rifles and whatever being destroyed?
ReplyDeleteIf John Oliver actually replaces Jon Stewart while he's on hiatus the show will be just fine. He made that man look like a complete fool, whoop de do indeed!
ReplyDeletePosted this on my FB page!!
ReplyDeleteOT but it's funny and I think IMers will like it.

ReplyDeletehttp://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/apparent-youtube-account-of-boston-suspect-shared-radical?ref=fpb
A YouTube account identified as belonging to Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the name of the suspect in the Boston bombing killed in a shootout with police early Friday morning, posted a series of videos over several months, some of which referred to radical Islamic theology.
According to Mother Jones' Adam Serwer, who examined the account, one of the videos refers to an end-time belief, referred to as "the prophecy of the Black Banners of Khurasan," that's popular in Al Qaeda circles. Another denounces the Harry Potter series for teaching children about paganism. Some of the videos shared through the account are not ideological: one features a chameleon changing colors as different objects are placed next to it.
Obama: Americans Respond to Terror Selflessly, Compassionately, and Without Fear
ReplyDeletePresident Obama spoke to the American people Saturday in his weekly address about the act of terror at the Boston Marathon that wounded dozens and killed three innocent people on Monday. Instead of fear-mongering, the President focused on the great spirit shown by Americans, saying they refuse to be terrorized. He reminded us, “Ultimately, that’s what we’ll remember from this week. That’s what will remain. Stories of heroism and kindness; resolve and resilience; generosity and love.”
“If anyone wants to know who we are; what America is; how we respond to evil and terror – that’s it. Selflessly. Compassionately. And unafraid.”
And that’s the way Boston and America will move forward together.

Obama needs to apologize to those he has terrorized with his drones in the Middle East and elsewhere. It's only when this bad shit happens in America do some of us become outraged and care about it. There must be more outrage regarding what America is doing elsewhere. I'm sorry but 3 dead Americans and some injured doesn't even match the atrocities that we have enacted upon others. I can't condone my tax dollars going toward such activity.
DeleteThen vote for more progressive politicians in office. Obama is not progressive but he's better than Romney or McCain.
Delete@ 2.07 President Obama is still cleaning up the George Bush wars - 100,000s killed - yet you attack the current President for something you know nothing about - other than the hate & stupid from the right wing press.
DeleteSo go ask George Bush to explain what happened under his watch - and why he now spends his days painting in the bath tub.
Police Release Photos Showing How Thermal Imaging And Robotics Uncovered Bombing Suspect

Meantime Digby links to the LA Times report on this crazy scheme: Give away guns to people who can't afford to buy them.
ReplyDelete"In working-class neighborhoods, activist seeks to give away guns
Some residents say it could help security. Others think that's a crazy idea. Another local activist urges people to give away school supplies instead."
In Tuscon Arizona. WTF.

Make that give away guns AND ammo!
DeleteThat's almost as bad as Georgia's law to make guns mandatory, but won't enforce it.
Delete?
The rationale of these gun nuts -- since no gun control measures will stop all killing just don't make any new laws at all -- is just crazy. And, it can be carried out in all sorts of ways. For instance,
ReplyDeleteSince no new cancer drug cures all cancers, no new drugs should be produced until one does kill all cancers.
And, how about -- since you don't live forever, why be born at all?

ReplyDeleteWhat a nutcase, comparing Australia to "Planet X" where there are no "real people". LOL
ReplyDeleteYeah, Fox and CNN are first on my list of "cable news" sources to send this to!
Any way you can turn off autoplay?
