This week’s address is delivered by Francine Wheeler, whose six year old son, Ben, was murdered alongside nineteen other children and six educators in Newtown, Connecticut, four months ago. Now, Francine – joined by her husband David – is asking the American people to help prevent this type of tragedy from happening to more families like hers. Since that terrible day in December, thousands more Americans have died, and thousands more families have suffered the pain of losing a loved one to violence.
Now that the Senate has agreed that commonsense gun safety reforms deserve a vote, they must finish the job and pass those reforms to protect our children and our communities. Now is the time for all Americans to help make this a moment of real change.
I apologize, but I really cannot write anything to add to this right now. My heart is too broken.
Thanks for posting this, Gryphen. I can't fathom how someone could fail to be moved by these parents, but sadly my curiosity got the better of me-- I clicked over to YouTube for an overview of people's reactions, and I wish I hadn't. What the hell did I expect? I honestly can't recall ever encountering anything as DISGUSTING as the comments beneath the video. My hands are still shaking; I think my stomach is trying to escape. I can't believe such shameless, flagrant heartlessness actually exists outside of a Body Snatchers movie, that this is indeed reality, and in a sick, sudden glimmer of insight I understood Yahweh's decision to drown humankind in Noah's alleged flood to be the most reasonable and obvious course of action possible. Duh!
ReplyDeleteThanks for fighting the good fight(s), Gryphen. And to think, if it weren't for Sarah Palin, I and many others might have never found you or Malia or Stonekettle and so on. She truly is the gift that keeps on giving.
So sorry to hear that the heartless and arrogant cannot be touched by a mother's pain.: yet those people call themselves patriots and real Americans and saddest of all Christians.
DeleteThey have no shame because they have no self-awareness and petty, heartless and brainless creatures. Animals in the wild have more empathy and compassion. Those folks are lost to humanity and are not worthy of the wonder of life. They are barely worth our contempt, but, like all negative things will fade into the past. Let them delude themselves that their hate will prevail. It won't; and neither will they.
Like Sarah herself, their hate will consume them. All we have to do is minimize the collateral damage their destruction causes.
Video Tweeted to my followers.
ReplyDeleteMy heart is breaking for her. WTF is wrong with the right that they feel the need for more guns?
ReplyDeleteHow anyone with a heart can listen to her words and not be moved is beyond my ability to comprehend. Ben could have been anyone's child. Where this mother finds the courage to speak so eloquently and with such humility isn't the same place the NRA and gun fetishists find their false courage and intimidation tactics.
ReplyDeleteIf this doesn't move us to act, I don't know what it'll take.
I'm grateful for this post, it should go viral.
