Chris Hayes of MSNBC does the best job of explaining why the REAL IRS scandal starts with Citizens United.

I watched carefully to see who would do the best job of explaining this IRS brouhaha and Chris Hayes did the best job, and really made it understandable as to WHY the IRS should be commended for doing their job appropriate, and also WHY this is such an unfortunate story for the White House.

The REAL problem as I see it is not that this is actually an honest to goodness scandal, the real problem is that it will undoubtedly breathe new life into the Tea Party which has been on life support recently and now has a spanking new lease on life.

The fact is that EVERYTHING is seen through a political lens these days, and through that lens what should be a non-story has become the absolute symbol of every conspiracy theory the Teabaggers have ever had about the Obama administration and the government's attitude toward them.

For that reason this is going to have serious consequences for the next two elections, and that sucks for all of us. Which is essentially what sent Jon Stewart over the edge last night.

You hit the nail on the head!!! It's all political. The GOP doesn't give a fuck about facts or the truth, it's all about political gamesmanship and smearing Obama and Hillary.

These are the same assholes who wanted Sarah Palin(!!!) as Vice President, which would have been an absolute disaster of epic proportions.

The GOP can manage to find the next 'Watergate' scandal in a Democrat buying a gallon of milk at the supermarket.

It's absurd the lengths they will go to in their tunnel-visioned efforts to bring down this administration (and prevent Hillary from heading the next one).

I really don't think this will make the Tea Bagger crowd carry through for the next two election cycles. They've done themselves so much harm with having the folks they do in their small group of Republicans.

Hillary Clinton can carry through if she decides to!

I do NOT think this will effect the next two elections. No way... Most Americans have tuned out and are sick to death of politics. Just ask the average person out there and stop being so pessimistic... Don't you know also this happened first under the watch of a Bush appointee??

    1. Does not matter when this first happened.

Fact is that the Republicans and their Teabagger attack dogs do a MUCH better job of taking advantage of this kind of thing than do the Dems, and that this will provide the Right Wing with the best talking points they could have hoped for.

With this they will increase their numbers, increase their donations, and become a major thorn in the side of the Democratic candidates in 2014 and 2016.

      Count not it.

Unfortunately, Gryphen, you're right. Because they have Fox News and much of the rest of the media under their belt the GOP can create hysteria and hatred over absolutely nothing. In 2008 John McCain could have done a lot to calm the racism down but he did not. In fact he should have dumped Sarah Palin from the ticket for inciting such hatred of the opposition candidate. The GOP wallows in lies and deceit - and they control the airwaves just as tightly as they control Congress (even without a majority in the Senate).

    The Real I.R.S. Scandal

Washington’s scandal machinery, rusty from recent disuse, is cranking back up to speed due to the alleged targeting of conservative groups by the Internal Revenue Service. Darrell Issa, the chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, said, “It’s the kind of thing that scares the American people to their core. When Americans are being targeted for audits based on their political beliefs, that needs to change.” Senator Susan Collins, of Maine, called on the President to apologize. George Will said President Obama could be impeached. Obama himself is taking the path of contrition. At a news conference Monday, the President said, “If in fact I.R.S. personnel engaged in the kind of practices that have been reported on and were intentionally targeting conservative groups, then that’s outrageous. And there’s no place for it.” More hearings, with more outrage, are planned.

In light of this, it might be useful to ask: Did the I.R.S. actually do anything wrong?

Whenever Republicans think they are gaining the upper hand, they always shoot themselves in the foot. Just wait...it will happen.

Remember the good old days when a "scandal" really meant something BIG? I think the public is suffering from "scandal fatigue" with the recent rash of events being spun by political motives. I think your assessment is spot on regarding the Tea Party because they truly believe anything that's spoon fed them by sources they trust. They've been trained in the fine art of disliking the elite.

Chris's show was excellent! When the Supreme Court passed "Citizens United", I doubt they brought it to the next logical conclusion based on how the IRS and FEC handle these matters, and we now have to deal with the "Big Brother" narrative for awhile.

OT ABC Admits they're a sham as far as journalism goes. Jon Karl digs a deeper hole while apologizing...

    here's an outake:

In the process of trying to defend himself, Karl exposed his own lies, “This is how I reported the contents of that e-mail, quoting verbatim a source who reviewed the original documents and shared detailed notes.” (In his original story, Karl claimed that ABC News had obtained the emails. This obviously wasn’t true.)

Karl also explained that he and ABC News never reviewed the emails, “The source was not permitted to make copies of the original e-mails. The White House has refused multiple requests – from journalists, including myself, and from Republican leaders in Congress – to release the full e-mail exchanges.”

Jon Karl wrote that nobody could get copies the emails. If this was true, how did Jake Tapper get them?

The truth is that Karl’s source was likely someone within the Republican House, because these emails were made available to the Republicans investigating Benghazi months ago. (Before Karl came to ABC he was a congressional correspondent at CNN, so connect the dots. Plus, it wasn’t a coincidence that this story broke days before House Republicans held another Benghazi hearing.)

  10. I disagree. What it will do is make their dumbasses hide like the thieves that they are. The gop are known liars and cheats.

gop still can't lie on President Obama and get away with it. None of their bullshit is working their lies won't stick. I don't feel it chris and G.these gop ignorant racist assholes have become extra ratchet, too thirsty, real desperate and shamelessly embarrassing these days. Their lies, obfuscation, obstruction and slime is 3 inches deep and growing on their scrawny ridiculous bodies.

We will never have another 2010 again. We won't be caught again. I think lazy Dems have learned a huge lesson. There are millions more of us than those slime balls posers. We will have 2012 election results all the time.

    This sucks for gop.

I watched Chris Hayes that night to see if anything had changed regarding his cemented opinions. Nothing had changed. The IRS scandal isn't really a scandal at all. As he was explaining why it really wasn't, pictures of Bush kept coming up on the screen. What little scandal there was, blame it on Bush. I knew he was preaching to the choir, and what a choir it must be. As I sat there I thought he really didn't have any respect for his viewers. Just keep ramming stuff down their throats.
