You know if you are concerned about being targeted by the IRS, it might NOT be the best idea to launch protests against them outside of their offices. I'm just saying.

Courtesy of US News:

A major tea party group is planning protests at Internal Revenue Services nationwide Tuesday following revelations earlier this month that the tax agency had flagged organizations with the words "tea party" or "patriot" for additional scrutiny.

The protests were originally scheduled only for Cincinnati, where the IRS has said employees responsible for the targeting were based. But Tea Party Patriots head Jenny Beth Martin tells Whispers she received requests to protest across the country. A call to action on the group's web site tells supporters that "the IRS is out of control" and so it is "calling for anyone and everyone to protest the IRS' complete abuse of power" on Tuesday at noon. The site helpfully includes a map of local IRS offices for protesters, as well as sample protest signs (such as "Abolish the IRS") and a form for those who believe they were inappropriately reviewed by the IRS to fill out and get help.

"The purpose is to make sure that American citizens across the country understand that this scandal spreads far and wide," Martin tells Whispers. She believes at least 30 groups affiliated with the Tea Party Patriots were targeted by the IRS. "And that's not to mention the people that gave up or quit because of all the paperwork."

You know this is kind of like driving around with a bumper sticker saying "Fuck the cops" and then going to a police officers house to yell through a bullhorn in protest because you keep getting pulled over.

But if you think that this is as stupid as it gets you my friend do NOT know the Teabaggers.

Martin says she is also planning a lawsuit against the tax agency.

Yes that is a brilliant idea because of course the IRS is certainly not prepared for a lawsuit. I mean it's not like they get sued all of the time and have entire floors of her agencies occupied by lawyers ready to take on lawsuits at a moment's notice.

Once again I am going to have to restock my popcorn supply.

OOoooo, if they sue, then there'll be *discovery*...now wouldn't THAT provide some interesting reading, no?

It is like Sarah Palin, a lot of Bluster, but no lawsuit. Too much can be exposed in a lawsuit. The Republicans are afraid of Lawsuits involving Income Taxes and their Pac Donations and expenditures.

Some Americans are absolutely stupid! The IRS should investigate certain groups as to their tax exempt status. Too many folks/entities take advantage of it and CHEAT.

As to going after reporters that disclose national security issues for the US, I see nothing wrong w/that either. Once again, there are stupid folks out there blowing this all out of proportion.

Love the fact President Obama's ratings are going up and not down as is what the Republican party (Teabaggers) so badly want. Aren't they ever going to learn? They still haven't gotten over the fact he won his second term in a landslide!

I also think many Republicans are committing treason and should be investigated and tried for it.

    1. If I were the IRS I'd revoke the status of CrossRoads and Americans for Prosperity since they spend most of their money on political campaigns in violation of the terms of a tax exempt 401(c)3.

  4. You gotta admit the Tea Party spin on this is getting very high media coverage. It would appear someone besides the TP is orchestrating this anti-IRS/Obama campaign.

Let's hope the general public starts counting up all the 'worst scandals in history' that happen in the next few years and realize how much is political bs aimed at them.

And, President Obama's poll ratings will continue to climb. The Republicans have screwed themselves big time!!!

  5. This goes back to what I originally said.

If you say taxes are illegal and advocate against paying taxes as a form of civil disobedience, don't complain when you're audited.

401(c)3 groups are supposed to be NONPOLITICAL. So if I were an overworked IRS employee having to evaluate thousands of applications, you'd better believe I'd use keywords like tea party and patriot, among others.

The bottom line is the IRS was doing it's job.

If you're named after an anti-tax movement, you should expect to get audited when you apply for tax-exempt status.

  6. These groups applying for tax exempt status because they claim they are organizations promoting social welfare is ludicrous. What kind of social welfare are they promoting? I believe they are applying for their own social "welfare" by not paying taxes and promoting a political agenda for the Tea Party aka Republicans. How can I get some of this tax exemption?

The Tea Party would be funny to watch if their ignorance weren't so dangerous.

Kind of like a monkey with a loaded gun.

Which brings to mind Michele Bachmann, Louie Gohmert, Sarah Palin...

Sadly the list goes on and on.

How many of these tea party old farts are getting medicare? How many of them have social security and/or a pension thanks to the same government they protest enforcing the rights of workers?

    "Proceed, Baggers!"

And make sure you have a sign that proclaims "This time we came ARMED!" The IRS needs to know you're serious, just sayin'

The IRS is older, smarter and has better lawyers than a bunch of goobersmoochers on scooters with body odor.

They are wasting their time and money by protesting there.

  12. I think Steven Colbert did the best exposure on this when he invited Trevor Potter back. First, these bagger groups didn't need to apply. Second, Colbert applied and the name he put on it has every single keyword the IRS used to find such groups. Hilarious. Please post the clip if you can find it.
