Say it ain't so Joe. Judge rules that Miller must pay Alaska Dispatch $85,000 in legal fees.

Courtesy of, who else, the Alaska Dispatch:

With his eye on a possible 2014 U.S. Senate run, Alaska Tea Party politico Joe Miller has been dealt a financial blow after losing a legal fight with the media, stemming from his last attempt to win a Senate seat three years ago.

On Friday, Alaska Superior Court Judge Stephanie Joannides ordered Miller to pay more than $85,000 of Alaska Dispatch’s attorney fees and costs stemming from the news organization’s 2010 lawsuit to make public Miller’s employment records during his time as a part-time government lawyer.

Alaska Dispatch had already won the suit, arguing that Miller’s records -- which detailed episodes of misconduct for which he was punished and barred from rehire for three years -- should be available for Alaska voters to review. At the time, Miller was a Republican candidate in a three-way race for the U.S. Senate. In the wake of the election, Miller -- a Yale Law School grad -- dragged out the litigation for nearly two more years.

“Miller’s conduct, which included taking inconsistent positions, failing to disclose information during discovery, and his procedural filing, which the record did not support, all caused unnecessary delay and costs for both Alaska Dispatch” and the Fairbanks North Star Borough, the judge wrote in her ruling.

Because Joannides found Miller's dragging out of the lawsuit and his other conduct in the case to be in bad faith and vexatious, she ordered him to pay 75 percent of the fees and 50 percent of the costs, for a total of $85,436. The borough must pay 10 percent of the fees and 50 percent of the costs, a total of $12,392.

The amount of the award -- nearly $100,000 combined -- is among the highest ever assessed in Alaska in a suit over wrongful withholding of public records, McKay said.

Oh man, THAT is certainly going to put a kink in any plans Miller had to run for office!

Gee I wonder if Miller will be able to get the Teabaggers to send him money to pay THIS bill? After his choice for the Republican party chairman was ousted, and now this, I seriously doubt that there are too many people left who are willing to send Miller their hard earned cash.

Boy that Sarah Palin curse has some serious longevity don't you think?

  7. Miller is reportedly considering a run for Begich's Senate seat. And although Begich has done an excellent job of representing Alaskan's, it's a pathetic truth there is a significant number of Alaskan's that would vote either for him, or against Begich. Miller's primary loyalty would NOT be to Alaska, he would NOT act on behalf of Alaskan interests, instead he would be a puppet whose strings are pulled by various Tea Party lobbyists
Although he claims to be the darling of the fiscal conservative's, Miller's political base is the same as The Quitter's , namely Evangelicals. And because of that he could conceivably carry The Valley vote.
But he has absolutely no chance of winning that Senate seat, nor any other public office. The vast majority of Alaskan's consider him to be a Grifter and a world class hypocrite, just like the Quitter.

O/T but HERE WE GO AGAIN!

2 year-old finds father’s unsecured handgun, puts gun his mouth, gun fires

The child reportedly saw his father’s 45 caliber handgun in the parents’ bedroom and put it in his mouth, and it fired. The mother, father and three older siblings were at home at the time.

The Courier Tribune reports, “Randolph County Sheriff’s Det. M. Reynolds said the father rushed the child to Randolph Hospital. He was then transported to Brenner Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem. Reynolds said the latest information from the hospital was that the child was expected to survive.”

Reynolds said, “This was a very tragic accident. It is so fortunate that the little boy is expected to survive.”

Sheriff’s Capt. Derrick Hill said that the bullet missed vital arteries in the neck and head, as well as the child’s spinal cord.

The parents or child’s names have not been released.

WBTW reports, “The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and the district attorney will decide if the parents should be charged for leaving the pistol improperly locked.”

      Delete
    2. Really? Is there any doubt the parents should be charged with leaving a pistol improperly locked? If it had been locked, this wouldn't have happened. If there is a law requiring that it be locked and it's not, charge them.

Every time this happens. Whether the child lives or not.

Start enforcing the laws we have. Then maybe fewer children will die and more gun owners will start acting responsibly.

I sure hope that they prosecute. It's almost once a week now that there is an incident involving a shooting by a young child. One would think that, after the first incident, all parents who are gun owners would be super careful about leaving loaded guns around the house. There should be laws against being stupid and owning guns.

    4. Being stupid should be added to the gun owning exclusions like being a criminal and being crazy.

The problem being if you exclude all the stupid people from owning guns, there wouldn't be enough responsible gun owners left to keep the manufacturers in business.

They pay for family vacations, lawyer bills, lots of stamps, they buy your books and makes them Best Sellers and they'll take the fall when the Feds comes after them. I'm surprised he doesn't have one. Did I mention they buy a lot of stamps, wink wink.

Some enterprising people with Pacs can pay relatives to feed, board and transport their children. You can also pay relatives to lick stamps which can be profitable. You just need them to start their own LLCs to bill to. It looks better than having your Pac cut a $5, 000 check to Cousin Jolene for babysitting for a few hours.

I am sure Joe has some nefarious way to pay for this indiscretion! He always figures out how others pay for his misdeeds and lies. What a loser. I still think the state ought to go at the money he has taken from DenaliCare for his nine kids’ health care. Not that I am against socialized medicine, it is just he said he wasn’t for “socialized medicine” and then used state benefits for his own family. The man has no conscience, this is why he will never be elected to office again.

We all know Joe never lies or conducts misdeeds--it's ALWAYS someone else's fault, don'cha know?

So, therefore it follows that someone else should pay for it. Simple logic.

Here's some info on the Joe PAC. (Note these news articles are from a few years ago.)

Joe Miller, a Tea Party star who lost a bid for the U.S. Senate in Alaska last year, is forming a new political action committee, he said Thursday.

Also on Thursday, Miller’s Western Representation PAC, another group, announced that it is launching a “Stop Romney” campaign, the same day former Republican Gov. Mitt Romney announced his run for president. The Huffington Post, a liberal news site, reported that Western PAC owns StopRomney.org.

Miller, who narrowly lost to Sen. Lisa Murkowski last year, said his new organization will be called Restoring Liberty Alaska PAC.

He also announced that he’s launching an organization called the Restoring Liberty Action Committee. The organizations will be launched at a Friday rally in Fairbanks.

Miller said the purpose of the Restoring Liberty Alaska PAC is “to support and elect candidates for state and local offices in Alaska who are dedicated to the principles of limited government as set forth in the Alaskan and United States Constitutions and who will work to restore the proper balance between the state and the federal government.”

Miller, who contested the results of his election, said the PAC “will also seek to ensure the integrity of the vote in Alaska.”

“During our campaign, I discovered a real wellspring of support among Alaskans and those across the nation who realized that the time had come to return our state and our nation to their founding principles,” he said.

I am having trouble finding a link to the So-Called Restoring Liberty Alaska PAC.

I believe the PAC I was thinking of that had lots or money may have been the one out of Colorado--that would explain why Joe and Lots of Money went together in my mind. I remember at the time thinking I couldn't believe Joe would raise that amount of money.

Alaska Dispatch article about Miller's FEC problems with $$ and what's what. I especially like that he said he didn't raise $5,000 so didn't feel he needed to file papers.

And as you can see, his PAC Facebook Page is uber popular with all of 10 Likes.

He also was (is?) the Chair of a Conservative PAC based in Colorado

Western PAC, the Nevada-based political organization which describes itself as “one of the largest and fastest-growing conservative action groups in the country,” announced today that Joe Miller will be their new chairman. During the 2010 election cycle, Western Pac backed Tea Party candidates like Sharron Angle in Nevada, Senator Scott Brown in Massachusetts and Senator Rand Paul in Kentucky.
