Before there was a universe, there was glue?

People always get mad at me for ridiculing creationists and fundamentalists, but how can I not?

If you are going to say totally crazy things, with no basis in reality, you should expect exactly that reaction.

I would happily ignore them if they were not working so hard to undermine education, science, and American politics.

    Right on.

Although, I doubt few creationists have ever heard of Sumaria.

Gryphen, NEVER stop ridiculing creationists and fundamentalists.

By definition, anyone who believes that Earth is only 6000 years old has no credibility whatsoever regarding ANYTHING.
      Period. End-of-story.

"People always get mad at me for ridiculing creationists and fundamentalists, but how can I not?"

This is precisely why I generally avoid arguing with religious people. There are so many holes in their beliefs, that when I point out a few, rather than saying "Well, you have a point", they say "You're just mocking my faith" and claim that they are being persecuted.

They mistake logic for ridicule, simply because many of their beliefs are ridiculous and they hate having to recognize that.

I'm not even an atheist - I'm more of a deist or agnostic. I don't rule out the existence of "God", but I do not know the nature of it. What I cannot believe is it is a perpetual 75 year old white haired 6 foot tall male who is in the sky and waits with bated breath for 3 billion people to thank him for food three times a day, cares which football team wins the big game, and rains mass destruction upon huge areas because he doesn't really like the way some people express their love for one another. Try saying that in one breath without sounding mocking.

  3. Keep ridiculing them and don’t ever stop. They have it coming. To be so willfully ignorant when information is all around, well, they have it coming.

Duct tape has a dark side and a light side and it is the force that binds the universe together.

I totally agree. However, my concern is when you lump ALL Christians in with the creationists and fundementalists. There are many of us who consider ourselves Christians and totally believe in evolution and all aspects of science. They don't have to be mutually exclusive.

    1. You seldom see any "Christian Groups" refuting the creationists and fundamentalists out in the public. It is like in the early days of Westboro when they only picketed the victims of AIDS. The sound of crickets was deafening from the mainstream churches. In a way these Christians forced me to question my beliefs and my eyes were truly opened to where I consider myself an atheist today. Give me logic and reason over superstition/myth any day....

You're right, it is utterly self-defeating that the other churches aren't speaking out against it. I will say that the Catholic church isn't anti-science in their K-12 schools or universities. Their position on women's rights is another story.

You're right about that - now.

But it took them far too long NOT to be and their refusal to acknowledge science (when it actually BECAME science) means we are considerably farther behind than we should be in our learning curve.

    2. They aren't anti-science? Is that why it only took them 470 years after the death of Galileo to actually apologise to him?
