Judge makes gun lobbyist give up weapons after being charged with domestic violence. Gee how will all of his friends know he's a man?

Courtesy of Salt Lake Tribune:

Clark Aposhian — a political force who helps guide gun policy on Utah’s Capitol Hill — was ordered by a justice court judge Tuesday to surrender all firearms in his home, office and on his person based on pending domestic violence charges and a protective order filed by his ex-wife.

"I’m going to prohibit you at this point as part of the protective order from having any firearms," Judge Augustus Chin said in a brief arraignment and hearing. "If there are any weapons in your home, I’m giving you 24 hours to remove them. That’s in effect immediately."

Aposhian, the state’s foremost gun lobbyist and an outspoken concealed weapons permit instructor, pleaded not guilty to domestic violence in the presence of a child and three other class B misdemeanors: trespass, criminal mischief and threat of violence.

The charges all stem from a Memorial Day incident in which Aposhian drove his 10-wheel, 2-ton army truck into his ex-wife’s Cottonwood Heights neighborhood, allegedly honked an air horn and then backed into the ex-wife’s driveway, nearly hitting a parked vehicle.

Police said Aposhian later told Ronald Meyer, his ex-wife’s husband, that he would "run over their cars and bury" him. When Aposhian returned to the home after police had arrived, he surrendered his firearm and was arrested. Aposhian’s 11-year-old daughter — the focus of an ongoing custody dispute — told police she was "scared" when her father showed up at the house.

Of course this is standard procedure in situations like this, but you just KNOW that the 2nd Amendment fetishists will use this as proof that "Obama is taking away our guns."

Now I am going to empathize a little with Mr. Aposhian as I remember very well my frustration during the custody battle over my daughter. I have a bad temper and would somedays walk around with my fists clenched in anger.

However I also knew full well that acting on those angry impulses would have meant losing my daughter, so I kept them under tight control. I would NEVER have driven to my ex's house and made threatening remarks, and by doing so this gentleman should expect to lose his precious guns while the dispute is ongoing.

It is only momentary lapse in judgement that turns a threatening confrontation into a deadly one, and the problem with guns is that it allows a momentary impulse to change your life, and the life of the victim, forever.

That's the kind of guy who will kill his child to spite the ex. Hopefully, that little girl won't be forced to see her biological nutjob. Poor kid. she must be terrified.

The damage done to the child is the worst thing here.

Children have a great tendency to adore their parents and put them on pedestals. If the daughter DID see this, it had to have been a major blow to her image of him - unless he was like this before the divorce.

And if he was like this before, he should never HAVE a chance at custody! In many, MANY ways, psychological abuse is far worse and harder to overcome.

Screw his loss of image with the gun lobbies! Endangering a child is just heinous!

Frustrated or not,...it doesn't give anyone the "right" to threaten, abuse, or intimidate others. This is an all too common theme with Guns and the type of personality that absolutely "must" carry them at all times. Sooner or later,...he will use that Gun. The "ex" has every right to be able to live without this kind of nonsense. We have Courts to settle custody and other marital issues. The Judge was correct in taking away this mans Guns until he calms down and the "issues" are settled.

The guy did this in front of his child for crying out loud! Total asshole and I know I'd want to get as far away from him as possible. Especially knowing his opinion about guns and the fact he has so many of them!

The judge did the right thing!!

Standard procedure but you are right the nuts will blame the President. They blame him for everything already. Off topic but about guns. I had a chance to use a gun in an act of retaliation many many years ago. I declined and I am very relieved I did. It would have ruined my life. The person who wronged me was convicted and lives with his wrong doing every day of his life. In that one moment I could have made the wrong choice and be in jail right now.

She charged how much for the Terri Schiavo Exploitation a palooza? Why doesn't she do the same for this sweet child? Or donate her own lungs?

Bless her polyester hairpiece and fake boobs.

Meanwhile in MN...... Yesterday the news broke in with a shooting in a nice, quiet neighborhood. The second they went to live film and I saw the moving truck by the house I told my son it was going to be some dude trying to stop his gal from moving out. Yep, killed her, killed himself, shot her daughter and her b.f. just for good measure. Keep those guns in the hands of men who can't handle rejection. We're having an epidemic of men who are killing wives and girlfriends up here this year. They are still looking for the bodies of at least one.

So he moves the guns from his house to a storage locker. Judge is happy. What could go wrong?

Like you, I seriously doubt he turns over all of his guns. Are they going to inspect his house after the time period has past for him to turnover his guns, I doubt it.

How much do you want to bet that he hits the next gun show or the internet and replaces those confiscated weapons?

Good Move, Judge Chin! I hope the two ton army tank is in the impound yard as well.

I feel badly for this child to have witnessed this. Kids often find ways to blame themselves for things they can't comprehend and have no control over. I hope she's reassured that she's loved, safe and cared for. This could have ended much worse.

If there's a case against keeping arms unregulated and plentiful, this goes to the head of the list!

He was in the news earlier for having one of his AR-15s stolen out of the back of his car.

    1. I bet quite a few of his favorite guns will turn up "stolen" before the deadline.
