Gallup reports that Republicans more likely than Independents and Democrats to get their news from television. Extra credit if you can guess which cable news channel is their go to choice for misinformation and propaganda.

Courtesy of Gallup:

On a relative basis, Republicans are more likely than independents or Democrats to say their main source of news is television. At the same time, independents rely the most of the three groups on the Internet, while Democrats put the most emphasis on print.

Fox News is a clear driver of Republicans' higher tendency to turn to television for their news, with 20% versus 6% of independents and 1% of Democrats, naming it as their main news source. No other television, print, or online news source generates as much loyalty from either Democrats or independents. The closest is CNN, named by 10% of Democrats, 6% of independents, and 4% of Republicans.

Underscoring the different partisan preferences of those who rely on Fox News vs. CNN for their news, the demographic and political profile of Americans who name each as their top news source are highly distinct. For example, nearly two-thirds of Fox News-oriented news consumers are 50 and older, compared with barely a third of CNN-oriented news consumers: 66% vs. 35%. Relatedly, 69% of the Fox News group is married, versus 37% of the CNN group.

The demographic profile of Americans who name Fox News as their main news source is similar to the profile of Republicans, and for good reason. Two-thirds of core Fox News viewers identify themselves as Republican, and 94% either identify as or lean Republican. By contrast, 46% of core CNN viewers identify as Democrat, and 63% identify as or lean Democratic.

Relatedly, 79% of the Fox News group describes their political views as conservative, 17% as moderate, and 2% as liberal. Among the CNN group, 21% are conservative, 51% are moderate, and 26% are liberal. Just 2% of the Fox News group, compared with 57% of the CNN group, approves of the job President Barack Obama is doing.

So in a nutshell Democrats like to read, Independents mostly get their news from the internet, and Republicans can only understand it when a pretty blonde lady explains it to them on the magic box sitting in their living rooms.

The good news for Fox is that clearly their business model has worked like a charm. 20% of Republicans name them as their primary news source, 79% of those Republicans identify as conservative, and only 2% of them think that Obama is doing a good job. It is essentially a Roger Aile's wet dream come to life.

The bad news for Fox is that two thirds of their audience is 50 or older, and let's face it most of THAT number are older than 50. This means that though they have captured their demographic, their demographic is rapidly dying out. And with them, if the relationship continues, the Republican party itself.

This means that if Fox News continues in their role as the propaganda arm of the Republican party, and continues reporting the "news" in the manner that they have in the past, and if the Republicans continue utilizing Fox to get their message out to their constituents, they will ultimately end up in side by side plots in the great, and ever expanding, graveyard of history.

And as a liberal I could not be happier with that eventuality. In fact it cannot happen soon enough.

She is just doing her usual political tease. She has to keep the money coming in to her PAC. Not to worry. Like you, I still would love for her to be outed.

The dumb ass from Wasilla ain't running for jack shit. Elizabeth Hasselbeck is going to Fox News & has been getting a lot of attention today. Dumb ass couldn't stand someone else getting all of the attention; especially Hasselbeck.

It is up to Alaska to send her a message ASAP. Let everyone know all the reasons you are sick of her grifting family and all the sham. Gryph can't do it alone. Alaska end the silence. Tell the truth and you will feel much better.

This could be great. She'd have to get out there and campaign and I don't think she really wants to spend that much time in Alaska anymore. But if she does she'll have to campaign against her buddy Joe Miller, who she promoted not long ago. There might just be a little mud fight between the two of them. But if she does win a primary battle hopefully the good people of Alaska will insure that she loses in the general. Her credentials will then read: quitter and loser.

Even better, if she continues to flirt and fleeces her supporters (again) more of them will tire of the tease (she lost many high profile fringers, like Eric Erikson, during her long drawn out presidential tease). She may have just painted herself into a corner.

She can't run: she'd have to fill out lengthy financial disclosure statements, under oath, as well as give live interviews discussing her positions on numerous issues, local and national. Moreover, she'd have to debate her primary opponents and, if she were the GOP candidate, debate her democratic opponent – all of whom can air, non-stop, the photo of her in the blow-up top, polka-dot skirt, and platform shoes in their ads. To say nothing of enlisting the support of numerous, large-scale financial donors up front. It. will. never. happen. I doubt seriously whether her bots, if they are not in fact a mere fictitious group given the pretense of life by behind-the-scenes writings of Palin family members, will even fall for it this time around.

I heard this was on the radio...is Fox relegating her to radio spots now? Even Ailes thinks she looks ridiculous?

Considering the current GOP's attitude towards education, this is understandable; after all, when you cannot read you watch TV. When you do not know how to think for yourself, you want someone to decide things for you.

BTW, it is going to get worse. Gov. Brownback of KS is getting ready to cut one billion dollars (yes, the big B) from public education in the state. I guess more people will be watching Fux News just to learn how to wipe their butts.

You know who is prettier, much younger, smarter, and capable of carrying on a conversation and now a rising star on Fox? Elizabeth Hasselbeck. I don't particularly care for her politics or even know who she is but I like to see Sarah's face rubbed into everything she's not all at once by her favorite station, Fox.

I remember reading that as Governor, Sarah became very upset when she was not included in a list of top beautiful politicians. Bad day at Juneau.

I predicted to my family that she would choose plastic surgery over education and public service. Now I wonder if she and her daughters are going to pose for Penthouse... if Larry offers her enough money?

  7. I get my news online from Huffington Post and Yahoo (although I am not happy with Yahoo's new format).

As for TV, Daily Show and Stephen Colbert.

I also listen to NPR radio in the car and get news from there.

I can't say I'm surprised that Democrats and Independents read to become informed. Or that right wing conservatives don't.

Well G, you've done your homework again. Thanks for this article - it explains a lot about what I've observed in Republicans, AND Democrats/Independents during my lifetime of over 50 years.

But you REALLY hit it on the head with the Fox News viewers. They truly DO get their 'secret club' information strictly from the television - if it isn't on Fox, it doesn't exist or isn't true. Yes, these people exist. You would think in their golden years that a lifetime of working experience would have given them wisdom regarding politics and the world situation. Sorry to say, that isn't the case.

A lot of Fox viewers are also of the military type. My retired Navy neighbor commented the other day how much better Sarah looks with her glasses than without and he was dead serious! And he's thinking of running for city council to tell those liberal lawmakers a thing or two. It would be hilarious if he wasn't my exact age - and I just sat there dumbfounded thinking to myself what a ignorant MoFo this guy and his ilk really are.

Speaking of SP, exactly what has she done since she quit that has benefited Alaskans as she stated in her farewell speech? What a HUGE disappointment but that's okay, for if she runs for a Senate seat, she's going to be smacked down to size. Oh, what a happy day that will be. Karma is such a bitch.

Elizabeth Hasselbeck is joining FOX , so Palin has to one up her by teasing about a Senate run.
I wonder what magic party Palin would run on ?
She hates Republicans ( and the feeling is mutual-trust me ) as does
Limbaugh ( again, the feeling is mutual ) , so I assume Palin will
run on the Tea Party/ Freedumb ticket .
Of course, she will never run and the only ones who haven't figured
this out yet , are the cult members and Simple Sean Hannity.

Hasselbeck doesn't like Palin - so, this could be interesting if she has to interview her! I don't like either one of them to tell you the truth. Also, think Whoopi was and is the best on "The View".

Palin would never win a Senate seat if she runs in Alaska. She and Todd quit as co-govs and she can't debate! She's nothing more than a 'flunky'!

I get my news with the NYT app, NBC, and a news aggregator. NPR, Pete Rose, Current and the U of Penn radio station, WXPN.
I know a lot of Republicans and Independents who flock to Fox News and Newsmax religiously (In all the variations in meaning of the word).

The other difference is, if something seems "funny", Democrats and Liberals will go to more than one source to clarify, something that never happens with Fox News viewers.

When someone did a profile on Dick Cheney, they described the details of his hotel suite, whenever he traveled. There had to be so many bottles of water, and the TV in each room had to be tuned to Fox News, and left on for him. That ought to tell you something about who watches Fox. Think about it for a minute. Shouldn't Cheney know more about what's going on that most people at Fox? News? Is that where he got his news? He should have read Bush's Daily Presidential Briefings, because Bush didn't read them.
