I have an almost preternatural inability to write anything nice about the Bush family, but I thought this was pretty cool.

Courtesy of the New York Daily News:

Former President George H. W. Bush shaved his head Wednesday as a show of solidarity with a 2-year-old-boy who is battling leukemia.

The boy, named Patrick, is the son of one of the members of Bush’s security detail. He had lost most of his hair due to his cancer treatments, a Bush spokesman said.

Bush, 89, got the idea to shave his head to show his support after he noticed that several members of his Secret Service detail, known as the Bush Protective Division, had also shaved their heads in solidarity with Patrick.

I have to admit that my disgust for the Bush family has not always included "Pappy" Bush who I saw as a MUCH more moderate President, and one who inspired anger from his own party for at least trying to do what he thought was right.

Here is a picture of the former President getting his head shaved.

Nice to know some on the right still have the ability to empathize with others. Wonderful thing for him to do and, I'm sure, much appreciated by the family.

I wish Patrick a quick, painless and permanent remission.

Also, his daughter died from leukemia years ago.

Yeah, Bush the first was probably the last of the real Republican presidents. I've always liked him.

I think what he did is pretty awesome. That said I must say we really have a pretty large entourage protecting the man. Our tax dollars at work

Isn't "The Bush Protective Division" making it easier for some "evildoers" to identify them? I hope they have some unshorn and off camera.

I just asking out of curiosity, I feel it's a wonderful show of support for this child supported by our tax dollars.

Just because Bush did one nice thing -- which cost him absolutely nothing to do -- doesn't make this creepy man a hero.

The poor kid is two. He neither knows nor cares. If I were the parent of a child undergoing cancer treatment, I would not want to see a bunch of bald heads around me, reminding me of what my child was going through. As a cancer survivor, I am thankful nobody around me did that, because to me it reeks of attention-seeking.

But even if I give this Bush credit for one good intention, it doesn't a change a thing. He is just as foul a piece of shit as his son, personally and professionally.

Agree with you about Bush 1000%
However as a pediatric oncology nurse, I know many parents shave their heads in solidarity with their kids - and it means alot to the kids. It really does. But this is family. Not some random creepy person whose family has done much harm to the US.

While its great that Bush41 did this I'm still reminded that he got us into Gulf War I, raised taxes on the middle class after his "Read my Lips" speech, appointed Clarence Thomas to the Supreme Court, and invaded Panama to get Noriega.

Andworst of all, he (and Babs) birthed and raised Dumbya. Then helped him get elected. GHWB has a lot to atone for.

By being elected in '88, he avoided being indicted for felonious acts related to Iran/Contra. He's a criminal and a phony. This head-shaving is just a WASP kind of gesture -- takes nothing from him and gets him publicity.
The Bushes have been taking this country to the cleaners for decades.

I had the same reaction to this photo. This was a wonderful thing to do. And I can't believe I am saying that about someone named Bush, but there it is.

Nope - sorry. Not even this makes up for anything the scary Bush family has done to this country - and i am a pediatric oncology nurse lol.
I hate the Bushes. Any of them, all of them that have been placed in front of us thru the years.

Also, too the Bushes had a duaghter named Robin who died of leukemia. I read once that their reaction to having a sick daughter who died was just bizarre. They never talked about it. This back in the day when childhood leukemia was a death sentence. Now, some types are 90& curable.

If we had universal health care, we wouldn't have to have head shaving fund raisers to help support families with astronomical medical bills. We'd only be shaving our heads to support the kids so they wouldn't feel funny being the only bald kid. I hate this so much.

    1. It's not for a fundraiser. They have good health care. They shaved their heads so the kid wouldn't feel funny

I did read elsewhere it was also for a fundraiser. http://www.kctv5.com/story/22924346/bush-41-shaves-head-for-young-cancer-patient and http://www.wibw.com/home/headlines/George-HW-Bush-Shaves-Head-For-Cancer-Patient-2-216821581.html

The real story here is that even someone who would take a bullet for a former president (who did nothing while in office to improve access to healthcare for Americans), someone who is well trained and educated, with a steady job and with decent pay - even someone like that can't afford health care for his child. This in "the greatest nation on earth"

The media are really missing every opportunity and giving us fluff instead of journalism.
