Once a mainstay of the White House Press Corps, Helen Thomas has died today at 92. Here is a reminder of why we should all mourn her passing.

Sadly Helen Thomas will be remembered for the controversial end of her carer, but watching that clip reminds me that she was once the MOST courageous reporter in the White House Press Room.

She had Bush dead to rights, and those of us who were not drinking the Kool-aid knew it.

You can read more about her amazing career right here.

I read all of her books. I once sent her an email telling her how much I admired her and what an outstanding journalist she was and how regretable that today's journalists didn't have her courage and integrity. She answered me right away. She always signed her emails HT.I was thrilled to get a response. She was One of a kind and we need many more like her today. Sadly, she was the end of an Era.

Remember when Palin and RAM weighed in on the Helen Thomas controversy?

    From June 2010:
Helen Thomas is a total embarrassment to my fellow Lebanese-Americans and to the Maronites. Shame on you, Helen.

Helen Thomas wrapped with a bit of political commentary on the Palin interview. "The ballgame was over after that." Couric, she insisted, "saved the country."

"That would be a tragedy, a national tragedy," Thomas said of the possibility of a Palin presidency. She called the former GOP vice-presidential nominee "very conservative, reactionary, unbelievable."

Somewhere, she and Ann Richards are shaking their heads at the mess the GOP has made of this country!

Stupid Sarah Palin is an embarrassment to any decent, intelligent human being. She is a lothesome, ill-bred, ill-mannered fool who has delusions of grandeur,

Does she currently have any ties with "my fellow Lebanese-Americans and to the Maronites?" Of course not! She is a user of people when it is convenient for her ridiculous, harpy needs.

What an amazing career! And she truly held journalism to the mantle of "The Fourth Estate". RIP, Helen.

Helen was courageous, asking questions the rest of them dared not ask. She was the last of a dying breed, doing the job the others will not have the courage to do. The gop hands out their "talking points" and the so-called journaists repeat it endlessly. Molly Ivins will welcome her also, too. I believe that W NEVER asked her another question after she asked him WHY he was so eager for a war. He must have been mad as Hell after that little meeting!! If only the rest of them had been as honest, maybe W/Cheney could have been stopped.

You can tell how flippin mad he was he wouldn't let her speak!
While we are looking back, check out how GWB conducts his interviews vs PBO?
      Quite a difference.

What a doofus George W. Bush is! How could his family have allowed him ever to run for office? Did George H. W. Bush so hate this country that he was willing to see his dangerously dumb son be president? And, by the way, Helen Thomas was absolutely right in asking her questions about the invasion of Iraq. Bush invaded Iraq because he wanted to, because he thought he would complete the job he thought his father had failed to finish.
