Donald Trump defends White Nationalists and claims that the "Alt-Left" started the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia.

President Trump angrily defended himself on Tuesday against criticism that he did not specifically condemn Nazi and white supremacist groups following the weekend’s deadly racial unrest in Virginia, and at one point questioned whether the movement to pull down statues of Confederate leaders would escalate to the desecration of George Washington. 

In a long, combative exchange with reporters at Trump Tower in Manhattan, the president repeatedly rejected a torrent of bipartisan criticism for waiting several days before naming the right-wing groups and placing blame on “many sides” for the violence on Saturday that ended with the death of a young woman after a car crashed into a crowd. 

He said that “before I make a statement, I like to know the facts.” 

And he criticized “alt-left” groups that he claimed were “very, very violent” when they sought to confront the nationalist and Nazi groups that had gathered in Charlottesville, Va., to protest the removal of a statue of Robert E. Lee from a park. He said there is “blame on both sides.” 

“Many of those people were there to protest the taking down of the statue of Robert E. Lee,” Mr. Trump said. “This week, it is Robert E. Lee and this week, Stonewall Jackson. Is it George Washington next? You have to ask yourself, where does it stop?” 

He noted that the first American president had owned slaves. 

Mr. Trump defended those gathered in the Charlottesville park to protest the statue’s removal, saying, “I’ve condemned neo-Nazis. I’ve condemned many different groups. Not all of those people were neo-Nazis, believe me. Not all of those people were white supremacists by any stretch.”

(Uh..that was a white nationalist protest march. Of course they were white nationalists.)


Again and again, Mr. Trump said that the portrayal of nationalist protesters in the city were not all Nazis or white supremacists, and he said it was unfair to suggest that they were. “Not all of those people were neo-Nazis, believe me. 

Not all of those people were white supremacists by any stretch,” he said, adding that blame for the violence in the city – which also took the lives of two Virginia state troopers when their helicopter crashed – should also be on people from “the left” who came to oppose the nationalist protesters. 

“You had a group on one side and the other, and they came at each other with clubs, and it was vicious and horrible. It was a horrible thing to watch,” the president said. “There is another side. There was a group on this side, you can call them the left. You have just called them the left, that came violently attacking the other group. You can say what you want. That’s the way it is.”

You know I often talk about watching Donald Trump speak with my jaw hanging on the floor in disbelief.

And that is certainly how I watched this.

Trump's attempts to blame the counter protesters and suggest that THEY were the ones who started the violence was, simply put, stunning.

He provided cover for the neo-Nazis, Klan members, and White Supremacists who beat peaceful protesters and murdered a young woman.

Donald Trump accuses CNN of spreading fake news, CNN reporter returns the favor.

Trump made a statement earlier today said that “racism is evil” and specifically criticized the KKK, Nazis and other groups that organized the rally for the first time. But he did not take questions from reporters, despite later calling it a "press conference." 

At a second announcement later in the day, Trump said he is launching an investigation into China’s trade practices. 

As that announcement ended, Acosta asked Trump if reporters could ask him questions about his remarks on Charlottesville. 

“It doesn’t bother me at all, but I like real news, not fake news,” Trump said, pointing at Acosta. “You’re fake news.” 

“Haven’t you spread a lot of fake news yourself, sir?” Acosta shot back. Trump ignored the question and exited the room.

Yes! That was EXACTLY what needs to happen!

Trump calls every news agency that dares to reveal his lies and poor policy decisions as "fake news" while virtually everything that he says is bullshit.

I am not always happy with CNN, but Jim Acosta has some serious balls and has been going after Trump and his spokespeople like rabid rottweiler.

And I think other journalists need to get a little of that mad dog attitude as well.

Soulless Sarah Huckabee Sanders takes to the podium to actually defend Donald Trump's indefensible tweets directed at Mika Brzezinski.

During the White House press briefing Thursday afternoon, Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders didn’t apologize on behalf of the president or try to walk back his tweets, which came after Brzezinski criticized him on her show. Instead, Huckabee Sanders defended Trump and portrayed the president and his staff as the real victims.

“The president is pushing back against people who attack him day after day after day. Where is the outrage on that?” Huckabee Sanders said. “The only person that I see a war on is this president and everybody that works for him.” 

(By "attack" Sanders means challenging the things Trump says with facts, or talking about his low poll numbers. Which is what Joe and Mika did this morning.)

Later, Huckabee Sanders was asked why Trump decided it would be wise to lash out at all. She said, “I don’t think you can expect someone to be personally attacked day after day, minute by minute and sit back.” 

“Look, the American people elected a fighter, they didn’t elect somebody to sit back and do nothing,” she said. “They knew what they were getting when the voted for Donald Trump and he won overwhelmingly.” 

(That's fake news by the way. Hillary beat him by just under 3 million votes.)

Huckabee Sanders also claimed Trump’s tweets aren’t beneath the dignity of the office of the president, saying that Trump “shows [dignity] every day in the decisions that he’s making, the focus and the priorities he’s laid out in his agenda, but he’s not going to sit back and be attacked by the liberal media, Hollywood elites, and when they hit him he’s going to hit back.”

(Trump shows dignity every day in the decisions that he's making?  When does that happen? If that were not enough Sanders also added this.)

Huckabee Sanders falsely claimed that Trump has “in no way, form, or fashion promoted or encouraged violence.” 

That clearly ridiculous statement was aggressively challenge by the Washington Post, which went into great detail pointing out multiple examples of Trump fomenting violence during his campaign rallies, threatening to use violence himself, and even offering to pay the legal fees of those who did use violence on his behalf.

In one of the most bizarre moments from this press conference, somebody asked Sanders if she would tell her children that Trump's behaviors were okay, and she responded by saying that when it comes to role models she "points to God."

To me that was one of the strangest cop outs I have ever witnessed.

In fact this entire press briefing was so far down the rabbit hole that I would not have been even remotely surprised to have witnessed Sanders fielding a question from the Mad Hatter of the Cheshire Cat.

President Trump on Thursday denied ever asking FBI Director James B. Comey to back off his agency’s investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, and the role played by former national security adviser Michael Flynn. 

Asked whether he urged Comey to ease up on the Flynn investigation, Trump said at a news conference, “No, no," before ordering the media to move onto the “next question."

This of course directly contradicts reports of that Comey memo, which is dumb of Trump because he has to KNOW that the memo is going to be subpoenaed and show up in at least one of these investigations.

Trump also claimed that Comey was fired because of his poor performance before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

That was also when Comey said that he was made "mildly nauseous" by the idea that he might have helped to change the outcome of the election.

Also during this brief press conference Trump reiterated that the Russian investigation was a "witch hunt" and that it was hurting the country.

Mr. Trump, speaking in the East Room of the White House, said he respected the appointment of a special counsel to investigate ties with Russia. 

“The entire thing has been a witch hunt,” Mr. Trump said. “There’s no collusion between, certainly, myself and my campaign — but I can only speak for myself — and the Russians — zero.” 

The president said the questions surrounding his campaign and Russia were divisive. 

“I think it divides the country,” Mr. Trump said. “I think we have a very divided country because of that and many other things.”

Yes, the country is divided between those who still support the president that Vladimir Putin chose to undermine our democracy and damage our country's credibility, and those who do not.

Wait, so he claims that both he and Angela Merkel were wiretapped by President Obama, right before he throws Fox News legal analyst Andrew Napolitano under the bus as the source who suggested that the Brits did it?

Well at least at the end of this press conference he deigned to shake Chancellor Merkel's hand after refusing to do so earlier in the day. I wonder if Obamacare covers almost dying from embarrassment.

This is EXACTLY what that press conference on Thursday felt like.

Fact checking one of Trump's biggest lies from his press conference yesterday.

There were a lot of whoppers told yesterday.

A LOT of whoppers.

In fact in the beginning of this video Trump lies that the press is preventing him from making deals with Russia.

However at around the 3:10 mark Trump makes the following accusation about Hillary Clinton:

"She tried to make a deal, she had the reset. She gave all that valuable Uranium away, she did other things. They say I'm close to Russia, Hillary Clinton gave away 20% of the uranium in the United Stares, she's close to Russia."

That, of course, is complete bullshit.

The claim isn't true. Between 2009 and 2013, Russia's atomic energy agency, Rosatom, purchased a majority stake in a Canadian company called Uranium One, The New York Times reported in 2015. The Toronto-based firm's mining assets in Wyoming, Utah and elsewhere in the United States account for about 20 percent of U.S. uranium production capacity, according to the Times. 

PolitiFact pointed out that 20 percent of uranium capacity is different from 20 percent of existing uranium. Moreover, the State Department was one of nine government agencies that had to sign off on the deals. Other federal and state regulators also had to approve them. 

Clinton was the nation's top diplomat when the sales took place, and the Obama administration was still trying to reset relations with Moscow at the time, PolitiFact noted. 

However, Clinton did not represent the State Department on the panel of agency officials who approve deals such as the Uranium One transaction. The representative at the time, former Assistant Secretary Jose Fernandez, told the Times, "Mrs. Clinton never intervened with me on any C.F.I.U.S. matter," referring to the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States.

Not only that but as Politifact also pointed out Russia does not have a license to export uranium outside of the United States which suggests that they were much more interested in Uranium One’s assets in Kazakhstan, which is in fact the world's largest producer of uranium.

In other words NONE of America's uranium fell into Russian hands.

It should also be noted that Trump has been lying about this at least as far back as June of 2016, and that this is another of those almost impossible to kill conspiracy theories touted by Right Wing media outlets.

But that is all it is, a conspiracy theory with no factual basis.

However we are learning that Trump's possible collusion with Russia is looking less and less like a conspiracy theory every single day.

However I came home, did some catching up, and essentially cannot believe this really happened.

In response to a question about his campaign staff's reported contact with Russian intelligence:

The failing New York Times wrote a big, long front-page story yesterday. And it was very much discredited, as you know. It was -- it's a joke. And the people mentioned in the story, I notice they were on television today saying they never even spoke to Russia. They weren't even a part, really -- I mean, they were such a minor part. They -- I hadn't spoken to them. 

I think the one person -- I don't think I've ever spoken to him. I don't think I've ever met him. And he actually said he was a very low-level member of I think a committee for a short period of time. I don't think I ever met him. Now, it's possible that I walked into a room and he was sitting there, but I don't think I ever met him. I didn't talk to him ever. And he thought it was a joke.Russia is fake news.

Russia -- this is fake news put out by the media. The real news is the fact that people, probably from the Obama administration because they're there, because we have our new people going in place, right now.

As you know, Mike Pompeo has -- has now taken control of the CIA, James Comey at FBI, Dan Coats is waiting to be approved, I mean he is a senator and a highly respected one and he's still waiting to be approved. But our new people are going in. 

Meaning that as soon as his people are in place that this Russian story will quickly disappear.

Which pretty much confirms the authenticity of the New York Times story in my opinion.

Trump calls everything "fake news" that contains a truth about him that he does not want people to know.

On the leaks:

Yes, we're looking at them very -- very, very serious. I've gone to all of the folks in charge of the various agencies and we're -- I've actually called the Justice Department to look into the leaks. Those are criminal leaks. They're put out by people either in agencies -- I think you'll see it stopping because now we have our people in. You know, again, we don't have our people in because we can't get them approved by the Senate.

What happens when I'm dealing with the problems in the Middle East? Are you folks going to be reporting all of that very, very confidential information, very important, very -- you know, I mean at the highest level? Are you going to be reporting about that too? So, I don't want classified information getting out to the public and in a way that was almost a test. 

So I'm dealing with Mexico, I'm dealing with Argentina, we were dealing on this case with Mike Flynn. All this information gets put into the "Washington Post" and gets put into the "New York Times" and I'm saying "what's going to happen when I'm dealing on the Middle East? What's going to happen when I'm dealing with really, really important subjects like North Korea?

Perhaps if Trump did not conduct national security meetings in full view of guests at Mar a Lago he would not have to worry about so many leaks?

Just saying.

On the firing of Mike Flynn, and his contact with Russia about sanctions during the campaign:  

No, I fired him because of what he said to Mike Pence. Very simple. Mike was doing his job. He was calling countries and his counterparts. So, it certainly would have been OK with me if he did it. I would have directed him to do it if I thought he wasn't doing it.

I didn't direct him, but I would have directed him because that's his job.

Wait, what? This happened BEFORE the inauguration, and BEFORE Flynn was the national security adviser.

It is most certainly NOT the job of a campaign advisor to be talking to Russia about sanctions before his guy takes office. In fact it was not fucking Donald Trump's job to do that either.

We HAD a President dealing with that stuff and he certainly did not need any interference from Trump and his cronies.

Trump also spent quite a bit of time slamming the media and calling them fake news, defending his desire to "make a deal" with Russia (While also claiming that he had NO contact with them during the campaign.), and bizarrely attacking Hillary Clinton and re-litigating the election.

All in all it was a trip to crazy town, and will undoubtedly provide much material for SNL.

"The only thing that is the end of the world is the end of the world." President Obama's comforting words to his daughters about the election will comfort us all.

 The President talking about his daughters, "But what we have also tried to teach them is resilience, and we've tried to teach them hope, and that the only thing that is the end of the world is the end of the world."

I found that oddly comforting.

Especially right now when it certainly does feel like the end of the world.

The President also added this toward the end of his answer.

"I believe in this country. I believe in the American people. I believe that people are more good than bad."

I have to say that if a man who just watched the arrogant asshole who hounded him for years about his birth certificate get voted into office by a bunch of voters too ignorant to understand what they stand to lose, still has this kind of confidence in the American people, I guess I should as well.

But I don't.

In fact my opinion of my fellow Americans has never been lower.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate his optimism.

I'm just not buying it.

However I do agree that overall our trajectory is toward progress and that ultimately we will get there.

In many ways Donald Trump is just an orange tinted, morbidly obese, monosyllabic bump in the road. I get that.

However my hope in that progress is probably not going to kick back in for at least another four years.

Until then my plan is to resist, to fight, and to dog this pompous POS until his last day in office.

President Obama surprises his press secretary with a tribute during his final briefing.

I watched this live this morning and was once again taken by President Obama's sheer humanity.

He is not only a great president, but he is also clearly a great boss, and a great friend.

"I'm not talking about the peepee!" SNL showers Donald Trump in golden comedy during cold open.

"I am going to bring back a thick stream of jobs back to this country. The biggest, strongest, steadiest stream you've ever seen. This country will literally showered with jobs. Because I am a major wiz at jobs. It will be a golden opportunity for me as president to make a big splash."

For those who don't know, after berating that CNN reporter the other day and calling them "fake news," Trump did indeed call on the guy from Breitbart.

I have said before that nobody understands Donald Trump quite as well as Garry Trudeau, who also predicted 30 years ago that he would run for president, but this is starting to feel like an episode of the "Twilight Zone."

But then again who better to get inside the mind of Donald Trump than a cartoonist for the funny papers?

 HOPE in this arena soars upon seeing a fearless leader take on injustice. (The so called "injustice" he was taking on was just a new unverified report following a string of verified reports on Russia's influence over Donald Trump.)

APPRECIATION fills our heart when our new President exudes our collective red, white and blue courage in the face of purveyors of yellow journalism. Press members have worked as a herd of lost little lazy sheep. The herd is now decimated. (Well somebody does not like the First Amendment now do they?)

America's challenges can now be tackled with seriousness. 

The impossible burden of dealing with unethical mediums is off our shoulder - and that's one less excuse leaders will have as we ask them to finally do the job we send them to do in Washington. (Okay so does Palin actually think journalism is dead in this country just because Donald Trump insulted one news outlet?)

The equally important excuse of "having no power" is gone now, too, so the independent commonsense public servants whom we hired with our votes must plow through the muck and mire and DRAIN THE SWAMP. 

The GOP controls the purse strings and now also finally the pen administering the checks. 

Get us out of debt. 

Get off the addiction to OPM - spending Other People's Money. We the people and our activism is the antidote. 

Let leaders know we have their back, trusting they have ours.

Somehow I doubt that is going to be the outcome here.

I actually think that the media is going to amp up their investigations of Trump, and that he faces years of embarrassing and damaging exposes written about him during his time in office, however short that may be.

I also think that his bragging about how smart he and the RNC were in not being hacked means that there are computer experts all over the world currently limbering up their fingers in preparation for making him eat those words.

And do you know who will report on it when they are successful?

That's right, the fully functioning and revitalized media.

Damn he literally called CNN "Fake news."

Some of the takeaways include the fact that he finally admitted that Russia hacked the DNC, more or less: 

“As far as hacking, I think it was Russian,” he said. “But I think we also get hacked by other countries and other people and I can say that when we lost 22 million names and everything else that was hacked recently, they didn’t make a big deal out of that, that was something that was extraordinary.” 

 So yeah he admits we got hacked by Russia, but thinks other hacks were worse.

As if anything could be worse than a hack which helped him to win the presidency.

He also said, that “Russia will have much greater respect for our country when I’m leading it than when other people have led it.” “You will see that.”

Yeah, I think he is confusing "respect" with "control over."

Trump also made a yuge show over signing his company over to his kids, and even had his attorney take the mic and assure all of the reporters that there was nothing to see here and everything was just fine, no need to investigate.

Also not exactly true.

But it was his attacks on the media that were the most shocking part of this:

“I want to thank a lot of the news organizations, some of whom have not treated me well over the years, a couple in particular, and they came out so strongly against that fake news,” he said. “I have great respect for the news, I have great respect for freedom of the press and all of that, but I will tell you there were some news organizations … that were so professional, so incredibly professional.” 

Later on, he called BuzzFeed, which posted a document which it says is the dossier about the Russian information, “a failing pile of garbage,” and also criticized CNN for publicizing the reports on Tuesday. 

CNN reporter Jim Acosta attempted to ask a follow-up question, but Mr. Trump repeatedly shut him down. 

“No, not you, your organization is terrible. Quiet. Quiet,” he said. As Acosta continued trying to ask a question, talking over another reporter, Mr. Trump continued: “Don’t be rude. Don’t be rude. Don’t. Be. Rude. I’m not going to give you a question. You are fake news.” 

Damn! I had never see anything like that before!

In one breath he tells the news organizations that he respects them and in the next he is essentially insulting a news outlet to their face in front of  their peers.

 Usually a newly elected president has a honeymoon period with the media, but this guy  is telling them to go fuck themselves right out of the gate.

I have to say that I have watched street brawls that were not as ugly as this.

I can only imagine how much worse it gets from here.

Why aren't more people talking about the fact that Donald Trump gave his longest press conference since "winning" the election with a multi flag waving Don King by his side?

President-elect Donald J. Trump said Americans should “get on with our lives” in comments to reporters before Thursday’s expected White House announcement that the United States will retaliate against Russia for its election-year hacking of Democratic Party computers.

Asked late Wednesday night at his Mar-a-Lago estate about President Obama’s plans to take action against Russia and its president, Vladimir V. Putin, Mr. Trump was dismissive. He appeared to concede the need to make computers more secure, but was vague about how that related to a possible response to Russia. “I think we ought to get on with our lives,” he said. 

“I think that computers have complicated lives very greatly. The whole age of computer has made it where nobody knows exactly what is going on. We have speed, we have a lot of other things, but I’m not sure we have the kind, the security we need.” 

Mr. Trump took questions from a handful of reporters as Don King, the sports promoter and a longtime friend, stood next to him. The president-elect has not held a formal news conference since July, though he promised on Wednesday to hold one in early January.

Okay so as you see the Times mentioned the Don King shaped elephant in the room, but only in passing, while other news outlets seemed to ignore his presence altogether, DESPITE the fact that he interjected himself into the Q & A several times.

Yes I recognize that there was some news made with his impromptu press conference, such as that Trump had talked to the President, his fumbling response about Israel, and his dismissal of the importance to investigate the Russian hacking, but for me the biggest story was that he made all of those statements while standing next to a convicted murder/circus clown.

If there is ANYTHING that sums up the Trump presidency in a nutshell, it is a picture like this.

 Because essentially these are two sides of the same coin, with the only real difference being the pigment of their skin and the fact that one of their daddies gave them millions of dollars.

These are both fast talking charlatans, who each made their money by exploiting those with real talent, and by cheating their workers out of their fair share.

And now one of them is going to be the President of the United States.

Gee, look how cooperative Putin is, and how willing he is to work with America, now that his Manchurian candidate is in place.

I'm sure that Trump was careful to respond in a dignified manner so as not to give the impression that he is a Putin fanboy.

Nope he might as well be wearing an "I Love Pootie" t-shirt and writing in his diary about how handsome he is on horseback.

You know I think Benedict Arnold at least PRETENDED like he was not working for the British.

By the way in one of his press conferences Putin claims that "only Moscow" beleived in Trump's chances of winning. Gee I wonder why?

Putin dismissed suggestions Moscow had helped Trump to victory in any way however. 

"It's not like that," he said. "All of this (the accusations) speaks of the current administration's systemic problems."

However right after saying that, Putin added this: 

Putin, who spoke positively of Trump before his election win, said that only Moscow had believed in his victory however. 

"Trump understood the mood of the people and kept going until the end, when nobody believed in him," Putin said, adding with a smile. "Except for you and me."

Wow, virtually every poll in the country suggested that Trump was going to lose, and that he was going to lose big, but Putin and his pals in Moscow were totally confident he was going to win? 

Gee nothing at all suspicious about that, right?

In other parts of the news conference Putin launched scathing attacks against the Democrats sounding far more like a contributor to Breitbart than as the leader of a sovereign nation.

Which I am sure also means absolutely nothing.
