Radio host blames death of woman's friend on fact that the woman was not armed.

"A radio host suggested that had I had a gun I could have saved my friend."

I try not to yell at my television, I really do, but when I heard that yesterday morning I have to admit that I lost it. Especially when I heard the catch in her voice after she related that story.

The idea that some asshole would suggest that this gentle woman was responsible for the death of her friend because she was not armed is beyond contempt.

Fuck him, and fuck anybody who thinks that more guns means fewer deaths. Anybody with any common sense knows that is simply wrong. In this case "dead wrong."

And this woman's carefully thought out explanation for why arming teachers is a bad idea is something that EVERYBODY should hear. Very well done.

Kentucky Senate Poll Shows Alison Lundergan Grimes A Serious Threat To Unpopular Mitch McConnell

New poll numbers released on Thursday hold troubling signs for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

According to the survey -- conducted by the Democratic firm Public Policy Polling on behalf of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee and Democracy For America -- Alison Lundergan Grimes, Kentucky's Democratic secretary of state who officially entered the race on Tuesday, leads the longtime senator by one point, with 45 percent to McConnell's 44 percent. While her lead is within the margin of error, the poll also underscored some broader issues that McConnell is likely to face as he campaigns for a sixth term.

At 51 percent, a majority of Kentuckians say they disapprove of McConnell's job performance, while 40 percent approve and 9 percent are undecided. Those numbers are an improvement over an April PPP poll that showed him to be one of the least popular senators in the country, with a 36 percent job approval rating. His lagging numbers reinforce a longstanding problem that McConnell has had wrangling support for his reelection bid.

PPP surveyed 1,210 Kentucky voters for the first two questions, with a margin of error of 2.8 percent. PCCC reportedly plans to release additional findings from the survey at a press conference later on Thursday.

“It’s no surprise that Kentucky voters have had enough of Mitch McConnell’s partisan gridlock,” said Jonathan Hurst, senior adviser to Lundergan Grimes. “For thirty years, McConnell has been the embodiment of all that is wrong with Washington and has no problem turning his back on Kentucky’s middle class.”

I'd love for you to do a post comparing, for example, Alaska and Chicago. The former being a place where one can open carry and walk into a gun store and walk out with a gun the same day

The latter being a place with STRICT gun control laws and extremely high gun violence.

Ask yourself why politicians FROM Chicago/IL dont acknowledge that city, yet speak about gun control, mentioning every other place

I'd love for you to be able to form a coherent thought. Every time someone brings up Detroit or New York and go off on "Durhhh gun control no werking!!!1" I have to imagine that they are nothing more than inbred idiots.

If you want a true comparison, look at countries. Cities and States cannot secure their border and strictly control what comes into them. It really matters little what a city like Chicago when you can drive to other cities or states and bring in all the guns you want.

Ask yourself why people look at you with pity when you don't acknowledge that we don't live in a vacuum.

/ps: I'm a gun-owned and user and would love tighter regulations

O/T but all the more reason to question all this nonsense coming from Greenwald:

Greenwald’s Latest Article Distorts the Truth Again

Just search for “warrant” and you’ll find what Greenwald is trying to conceal under reams of rhetoric

...And sure enough, in today’s new “bombshell” story by Greenwald, searching for “warrant” immediately brings up the most important point, buried in the tenth paragraph under tons of exaggeration and hyperbole:

Under US law, the NSA is required to obtain an individualized Fisa warrant only if the target of their surveillance is a ‘US person’, though no such warrant is required for intercepting the communications of Americans with foreign targets. But XKeyscore provides the technological capability, if not the legal authority, to target even US persons for extensive electronic surveillance without a warrant provided that some identifying information, such as their email or IP address, is known to the analyst.

That’s right — once again, Greenwald is not documenting any actual wrongdoing. It’s a very deliberate rhetorical trick he uses over and over — conflating the ability to do something with actually doing it, and glossing over the fact that there are very serious legal consequences in store for anyone who actually does abuse these systems.

Greenwald’s purpose with this latest article is to try to shore up Edward Snowden’s absurd claim that he could “wiretap anyone, even the President,” without any oversight. Here’s how he frames this defense:

O/T but this makes me feel all giddy inside. COULD IT BE the END of Ol' Turtleface McConnell?

For possibly the first time in career Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell is trailing in a poll. Democrat Alison Grimes leads McConnell 45-44%, but the poll contains a boatload of bad news for Mitch.

The lead for Grimes is within the margin of error, but it represents a continuing trend for this race. McConnell led 45%-41% in April. McConnell and Grimes were tied in May, and Grimes has taken the lead in July. This election could be trending away from McConnell. The biggest problem for McConnell is that a majority in Kentucky do not think he deserves to be reelected. When asked, “After 30 years in the U.S. Senate, do you believe Republican Mitch McConnell deserves re-election, or not?” 54% of respondents said no, and only 38% said yes.

Another big problem for McConnell is that voters don’t approve of what he is running on. McConnell has championed entitlement reform, and cutting Social Security. Fifty two percent of those polled said cutting Social Security would make them less likely to support McConnell. Thirty three percent did not care, and 15% said that it would make them more likely to support McConnell. Mitch McConnell’s most insurmountable obstacle is that voters plain don’t like him. McConnell’s approval rating remains underwater. Only 40% of those surveyed approve of him, but 51% disapprove of the way he is doing his job. Mitch’s lack of likability is not surprising. In April PPP found that McConnell was America’s most unpopular senator.

  10. Let me guess this straight.

The right is suggesting that ALL women should be armed and at the same time is attempting to take away women's right to choose, among other things.

Do they *really* want women armed? Seriously?
