A video to lift your spirits.

Today has been a day filled with sad, bad, and disappointing news, so I thought that ending with a video of the Ohio State University Marching Band's  "Hollywood Blockbuster Show" would be more than appropriate.

I am blown away by this band's precision.

    Gryphen,

As a Buckeye born and raised, I'm going to have to correct you. it's The Ohio State University marching band, fondly known to all of us as The Best Damn Band In The Land!

You bet. and in the early 70's my cousin was honored to dot the I. What I remember more than any thing is the number of marching shoes this band goes thru in a season. Funny , I know. ... I still get a tear in my eye watching them perform Script OHIO.

I dont know where to put this so I'm putting here in hopes you see it in time. The Documentary "Bridegroom" comes on the OWN network tonight. It's about the civil rights issue of this century, Gay marriage. Also a darling new picture of the President with a little toddler I wanted to pass on. Do you give out your e-mail address?

It is a spectacle. Sadly, it is one more manifestation of glorifying the militaristic and equating sport and competition with deadly aggression. Many will respond with what the hell are you talking about. Try and watch a major sports event in America that isn't framed by beating the drum and seducing youth into thinking that uniforms, precision drilling and bombast are the measure of patriotism.

I would NEVER say "what the hell are you talking about" but lighten up a bit.
Sometimes a marching band is just a marching band.

You're making more of this than is truly necessary to get your opinion across. Lighten up and enjoy!

It is so pervasive and a reflection of the American world view that even those thinking they are liberals will not see it. "Lighten up" is the attitude that enables the indoctrination of your kids and the subsequent engagement of them as dupes for enlistment.

You have some good points Anon, at 5:45 pm. when you say..."Try and watch a major sports event in America that isn't framed by beating the drum and seducing youth into thinking that uniforms, precision drilling and bombast are the measure of patriotism."

My daughter is a sophomore at Ohio State and yesterday was her first football game. She is now spoiled for all future halftime shows.

    Go Buckeyes!!!

  13. Not only that, they sounded fantastic too. And they say kids today don't know from hard work.

You don't roll out of bed being able to do this - decades later, my feet are still soggy from 6:30am marching band practice in the morning dew of October.
