Today's example of guns keeping us safe in America.

Courtesy of Talking Points Memo:

A 22-year-old Nashville, Tenn. man accidentally shot his gun through the floor of his apartment about 11 p.m. on Sunday, hitting a downstairs neighbor who was sleeping in her bed, according to The Tennessean.

The woman was reportedly hit in the shoulder and was rushed to a hospital, where she was in stable condition on Monday morning.

The alleged shooter, David White, told police he was "playing around" with the firearm. He was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment, marijuana possession and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.

Yep, nothing stops a bad woman sleeping in her own bed, like a good guy playing around with his gun.

At least the cops didn't write this off as a terrible accident. He's arrested and while I hope he serves time, I hope he loses his ability to ever own a gun again.

It's only a "terrible accident" when you shoot your own kid.

More a case of the side effects of drug.

Hoe he is prosecuted to the fullest.

And it isn't an accident when you purposely ingest drugs before you play with your gun.

The only difference between this and a thousand other redneck gun accidents is that this involved drugs instead of alcohol.

It's never their "personal responsibility", everything is fun with these idiots. And a woman gets injured while sleeping in her bed. When does this insanity end?

If he doesn't get prosecuted, She should have a militia party while he's upstairs, everyone shoot at the ceiling ..... hey, they were just playing around! He'd be singing a different tune, I suppose.

When I was 19 a friend of mine "borrowed" his father's 9mm. I came over after work to hang out at his apartment and my boyfriend was there too. I was sitting there watching GH and he was over to my the right of me holding the gun kind of caressing it. I said "You better be careful with that thing." He says, "Don't worry it's not loaded." The very next second BANG. I yelled at him because he could have shot me. We looked in the floor and never could find where the bullet went AND we went down to check on the neighbor. Turns out there was one bullet left in the chamber even though the clip was empty. I'm not really against owning guns per se it's just that they are extremely dangerous and our culture seems to just take it granted. Gun ownership should be taken more seriously.
