Final image of the day.

That is a picture of Saturn taken by NASA's Cassini probe.

I thought that after a day of fighting over politics, religion, and holidays it might be nice to recognize how petty our silly differences are when put into perspective.

We may feel that we are the center of the universe, and the most important creatures in existence, but the first is simply untrue and the second? Well the second has not yet been determined.

However if I had to venture a guess.

Very nice graphics and, at least for me, quite soothing. Unfortunately, too many of the opposition still consider themselves to be the center of the universe.
As a young teen studying biology for the first time, it struck me how similar we are to organisms in a petri dish. 50 years later, that analogy hasn't changed for me.

A man said to the universe:
    “Sir, I exist!"
    “However,” replied the universe,
“The fact has not created in me
    “A sense of obligation.”

OT. Jay Leno just had a segment titled Trending Today. It had a hilarious bit about Palin.

  7. ‘I’m a Proud Hobbit’: Sarah Palin Takes a Swing at Fmr. Running Mate John McCain

Some folks including me are making sly remarks about Sarah Palin being Gollum, and betting she's never even read the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Just find a copy of the huge Cosmos coffee table book and prepare to be humbled. It has so many older pictures of our universe's planets, starts and galaxies. It is hard to be so proud of being a meat puppet when you see the bazillions of HUGE things out there so much grander than we could ever be.

In addition to saturn in the photograph, there's also Mars, Venus, the earth and our moon. The link below has the same with photos and text with pointers to each of the planets.
