Open Carry advocates attempt to intimidate "Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America," with, you guessed it, guns.

Courtesy of Think Progress:

On Saturday, nearly 40 armed men, women, and children waited outside a Dallas, Texas area restaurant to protest a membership meeting for the state chapter of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a gun safety advocacy group formed in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

According to a spokeswoman for Moms Demand Action (MDA), the moms were inside the Blue Mesa Grill when members of Open Carry Texas (OCT) — an open carry advocacy group — “pull[ed] up in the parking lot and start[ed] getting guns out of their trunks.” The group then waited in the parking lot for the four MDA members to come out. The spokeswoman said that the restaurant manager did not want to call 911, for fear of “inciting a riot” and waited for the gun advocates to leave. The group moved to a nearby Hooters after approximately two hours.

MDA later released a statement calling OCT “gun bullies” who “disagree[d] with our goal of changing America’s gun laws and policies to protect our children and families.” The statement added that the members and restaurant customers were “terrified by what appeared to be an armed ambush.” A member of OCT responded by tweeting, “I guess I’m a #gunbullies #Comeandtakeit.”

So to be clear, this group of pro-gun nuts decided to state their case that Americans should be allowed to carry any gun they want to openly, and they did so by demonstrating EXACTLY why many of us feel that is dangerous and unwise to allow that without having comprehensive background checks and guidelines.

These individuals are pathetic excuses for men and should serve as an embarrassment to every responsible gun owner in the country.

This kind of thing literally makes me seethe with anger.

  1. Let us imagine for just one moment that everyone of these peaceful demonstrator's are of color... or let's say they where dressed in middle eastern attire.

Every time I think of Trayvon Martin's case and the grace his mother holds despite her pain, my blood boils.

I was reading the comments with this article this morning and there were several people who were enthusiastically defending this group, arguing that this was not terrorism and that they were NOT trying to intimidate anyone. They were merely exercising their first and second amendment rights (which, apparently, the four women having a private meeting in the restaurant were not permitted to do).

I wonder how they would feel if 40 Muslims were holding these same weapons outside their children's school. Would the fact that the gun wielding folks had brown skin and followed another religion suddenly make it qualify as terrorism?

One comment also claimed that, since no shots were fired, this could not possibly be considered terrorism. So, if someone shows up at his front door, grabs his child and holds a gun to his head, that would be perfectly fine with him as long as the gun was not fired? Or someone sits on his porch with a hand grenade or a bomb. Would that be okay too, since they didn't actually blow anything up?

I saw another photo of this sorry lot somewhere..they had young kids with them. And they went to Hooters? Such a family oriented place. My son is in Texas and I pray he transfers back to MI ASAP.

As a mom, I can't imagine how troubling this story must make you feel. I hope Texasstan loses a lot of it's tax base when more people pull up and leave.

And I'm really wondering why they are hiding behind a car in a parking lot??? After all, these are only four women having lunch. Are these people such cowards? Never mind, I just answered my own question.

They had so much to be fearful of, a bunch of unarmed women having lunch while discussing their "Mom's Demand Action" work, which is constitutionally protected free speech.
So they whip out their guns and act like buffoons, then retreat to a business that serves chicken wings to chicken shits who can't get the nerve to ask a woman on a date. so they settle for chicken wings served by braless waitresses in tank tops. Wonder how impressed the waitresses were with the chickenshits and their guns?

You know, with all these mass shootings we've been witnessing, these bozos are just asking for disaster by carrying on like this. Someone is going to call the cops and they might not react in a restrained manner. Mark my words. These idiots are going to instigate something truly awful and all too soon.

  10. There is pushback from the gun nuts. They're saying that the Moms came out with cameras/cellphones and asked to take pictures of the gun-toting group. So there's a front-on picture of the group (the guy in the red shirt crouching in the above picture is at the right side of the linked picture).

What the gun group is complaining about -- in a Sarah-Palin-like "blood libel" victim whine -- is that another Mom went off to the right side of the group and took the picture that Gryphen posted above.

I'll admit the above picture surely does look like an attack is being planned, and looks very aggressive. But when you compare the two pictures, it looks somewhat (aside from the intimidation factor) a lot less aggressive.

But it does look stupid, and worse, looks to be a setup to let the aggressors play the victims.

to me, the front on photo is worse than the side photo because of the small children and the flag.

wonder if they got a permit for demonstrating in the parking lot of a family restaurant?

Absolutely! Some folks in the front row have no business carrying a gun much less owning one: the woman pointing her gun at the American Flag, the man with glasses pointing his gun at some other man behind him, and the man pointing his gun out while a little girl seems to be intrigued by it?

  13. A lot of folks are missing the point - open carry is the Second Amendment - read DC v. Heller - concealed carry is not protected by the Second Amendment.

In this time in America, with people walking through malls, airports and theaters, and shooting at unarmed citizens, these kinds of "protests" are counterproductive. They don't prove anything except that "a well regulated" militia doesn't exist.

And someone else is going to get hurt.
