SarahPAC receives notification from FEC about missing money from the NRA. Uh oh!

"What? We got a letter?"
Courtesy of the FEC:

Dear Treasurer:

Response Due Date 12/12/2013 This letter is prompted by the Commission's preliminary review of the report referenced above. This notice requests information essential to full public disclosure of your federal election campaign finances. Failure to adequately respond by the response date noted above could result in an audit or enforcement action. Additional information is needed for the following 1 item(s):

 - Schedule A supporting Line 15 of your report discloses an offset to an operating expenditure(s) totaling $11,169.86 from "National Rifle Association"; however, your report(s) does not appear to disclose a disbursement to this entity. Please provide clarifying information regarding this activity and amend your report(s) if necessary. (11 CFR § 104.3(a) & (b))

Please note, you will not receive an additional notice from the Commission on this matter. Adequate responses must be received by the Commission on or before the due date noted above to be taken into consideration in determining whether audit action will be initiated. Failure to comply with the provisions of the Act may also result in an enforcement action against the committee. Any response submitted by your committee will be placed on the public record and will be considered by the Commission prior to taking enforcement action. Requests for extensions of time in which to respond will not be considered.

What the FEC is referring to appears to be a refund for travel expenses claimed by SarahPAC from the NRA, which can be found here.  I have to imagine that this is connected to Palin's speech at the NRA convention on May 3rd, which would indicate that at least some of her travel expenses were paid for by the NRA.

Now I am not an expert on PAC's but is that legal? It must not be since the FEC is asking for information as to when SarahPAC directly sent $11,169.86 to the NRA itself.

The FEC must know about the speech, and be able to put two and two together, so it is highly doubtful they have not figured out the connection.

Things that make you go "Hmmm."

This could a very big deal and if the treasurer Timothy Crawford cannot come up with a reasonable explanation this may be the end of Sarah Palin's free ride on the backs of the dumbest people on the planet.

Slick scammers will get rid of a simple NRA problem. I hope this will unravel the bulk of all SarahPAC funny bidness.

at one point in the piece instead of $11,169.86

Business-class seats from Anchorage to Houston seem to run $1800, assuming reasonable advance purchase. Assuming she and Toad were traveling, and giving them the benefit of the doubt that they actually traveled from Anchorage rather than Arizona, yeah, that leaves $7500 or so for lodging, meals, and incidentals. Must've been some robes & slippers.

Alaska air recently (this year) made a non-stop flight from Anchorage----> Phoenix!!!
Interesting for sure since Griftata lives in AZ.

So they need her receipts, is that all? I hope there is more to it, I am afraid she will just provide receipts and be done with it.
So sick of this lunatic. The good news is that her book seems to already be panned and made fun of, so that is great!

The accountant simply needs to show that the PAC spent $11169.68 on travel to the NRA even which then will match the reimbursement from the NRA. They booked the reimbursement but not the original expense.

I think the FEC would need to see the offsetting travel expenditures to verify the NRA didn't make an above-the-limit donation. If the expenditures can't be documented, the worst outcome would probably only be sending back some or all of the amount to the NRA.

The worst outcome would be a audit, possible a forensic one.

SP would then try to distance herself from the PAC claiming she had no knowledge of the wrongdoing but it would be too late at the point.

Once the receipts for travel are submitted, things should be fine. I am curious as to the magnitude of the expense/expenditure. Two flight tickets for SP and Todd - $3K, hotel costs $2K (assuming two rooms), food and misc - $1.5K totally $6.5K (and I am being generous). I just don't get how it came to over $11K. I think SP et al. embellished the amount of the trip to the NRA and were reimbursed the higher amount thereby profiting from this ordeal.

    1. Yeah, I think this might be he crux of the problem.

The money they received from the NRA may not match their receipts.

      it'd called "money laundering."

I'd bet the whole SarahPac is full of "expenses" and "reimbursements" that aren't real.

Tim Crawford, if the FEC has any teeth, should be in real trouble, with Sarah close behind.

Sarah's PAC showed some sky-high expenses for Sarah to appear at that high school graduation, staying in luxury suites, ordering expensive meals. Sarah has no qualms or budget when it comes to spending OPM, Other Peoples' Money. Donate to Sarah's PAC, you suckers, Sarah wants to return to the spa for the hot stone massage.

-Reimbursements to individuals for TRAVEL/SUBSISTENCE expenses:
Schedule B, Line 21(b): The reimbursement to the individual should be disclosed on Line 21(b) and the purpose should indicate that it is for travel/subsistence reimbursement. If the travel/subsistence reimbursement is greater than $500, MEMO entries to identify the original vendor(s) are required if payments to the vendor(s) exceed $200 during the calendar year.
If there are multiple reimbursements on a report you should clearly identify which reimbursement each memo entry relates to.

Trust me Gryph, this ain't nothing compared to the shit that's about to hit the fan. I'm talking about high crimes and misdemeanors of the magnitude that will make Polar Pen look like child's play.

It IS political season after all.

Palin will be insulated from some of it, but it's going to be another scandal of the magnitude that you haven't seen before, and much of it happened on her watch and has continued to this day.

Better have Ms. Tripps number on hand, because some of this intertwines with her experience with law enforcement.

Trust me. When a Chaplain, no, make that two Chaplains take their complaints to the Governor's office, bypassing the Chain of Command, you can bet that's a big deal. And Chaplain Dave's handling of the Tripp case, well.....That's no coincidence either.

The truth is beginning to emerge, which will only empower even more victims to speak out about the abuse they've experienced at the hands of law enforcement and the AKARNG.

29 reported so far, trust me, there are a lot more out there. Think Mayor of San Diego only much, much worse.

And now it's spilling out onto the internets and it's going to be a Shit Tsunami for Sean and Co.

    Mark my words.

And the BEST thing is, she's wrong and can't use this as "Government overreach blah blah blah" in one of her manifestos. Are the stripes vertical or horizontal in Alaska prisons? A gals got to know how to accessorize, and horizontal stripes aren't flattering to your figure!
