America is essentially done with the Tea Party. Gee, really?

Courtesy of MSNBC:

A pair of polls show Americans are largely unhappy with both the GOP and the tea party wing of the party.

Tea party favorability has fallen to an all-time low according a Gallup poll released Wednesday, which found a slight majority (51%) of Americans have an unfavorable view of the tea party. The poll finds 30% of Americans feel positively about the tea party, down from a high of 39% in 2011. Republicans are most likely to support the movement, with 58% seeing it favorably, and unsurprisingly Democrats overwhelmingly dislike the tea party – 74% to 10%.

Moderates aren’t too keen on the movement either. While the split is not as stark as with Democrats, moderates are more likely than even the general public to say they don’t favor the tea party (54%) and only 23% say they do favor it.

It turns out moderates tend to prefer the Democratic Party to the Republican Party as well. A second Gallup poll released Wednesday finds Democrats maintain a 10-point lead over Republicans in terms of favorability with the American public. While moderates are currently evenly split on the Democratic Party, with 47% viewing it positively and another 47% viewing it negatively, only 27% of moderates have positive views of the Republican Party right now.

Even the Republican base is not as strong as it is for the Democrats. Self-described liberals favor the Democratic Party 71% to 25% in the poll, but conservatives just barely break in favor of the GOP. Just 47% of conservatives say they favor the Republican Party compared to 46% who don’t.

This should be good news for the establishment Republicans as they fight for control of the party, and of course great news for the American people. However as with anything the final death throes can still cause a great deal of harm before the creature breathes its last.

I simply cannot visualize the Teabaggers fading away peacefully. Nor can I imagine the Republican party, as it exists today, moving forward without its most Right Wing supporters.

I guess it is still possible that the Tea Party really will split off into a third party and drain the Right Wing support from the Grand Old Party.

If that happens all I can say is "Welcome to the United States of the Democrats."

  2. 2014 is beginning to look even better. Of course with the Tea Party downfall goes the further downfall of Sarah and her far right wing evangelicals who support her. The second half of SarahPAC's FEC filings will be posted in about 2 months and it should be interesting to see if her donations continue to fall by 50% from the previous filing period. During this 6 month period Sarah has managed to capture more air time for herself by promoting her book, but will it be enough to stop or slow down the steep downfall of her donations to SarahPAC is yet to be seen. Either way, the sluggish sales of her book should be giving her clear indications that her 15 minutes is coming to a end. It will be interesting to find out what path she decides to take in trying to recover her lost popularity with the far right. Will she also reveal to everyone that she has decided to make Arizona her permanent home, or that her marriage to Todd is coming to an end. If she does, poor Bristol will also lose out and may actually have to find a real job.

Nice wishing, but she already has a new TV show in the works. She isn't gone yet.

I believe it would be good for the United States for the Tea Party to form its own Political Party.

I don't believe this would be the first time in our history that the craziest among us split from a larger group and formed their own fringe party.

..Boehner has always known that the right wing groups are involved to make a profit and grow, but he is speaking out now because he sees a chance to blame them for the government shutdown. Speaker Boehner is a master of blaming others, but this situation is unique because he is blaming his fellow conservatives. The hypocrisy is that John Boehner became speaker because of the tea party’s success in 2010. Boehner had no issue with using the tea party to get him the gavel, but now that the tea party has become toxic, the Speaker is breaking out the knives. The Republican establishment is making their next big move against the tea party. Their first move is the redoing of the presidential primary system to make it more difficult for tea party candidates to win the Republican nomination. Phase two is Boehner separating his members from the outside groups. The big message that the Speaker sent was that certain outside groups aren’t going to be able to run wild and kill legislation with nothing more than threats. Rep. Boehner isn’t going to be turning down Koch dollars anytime soon. He is fine with nearly all of the outside groups. Who the Republican Party is really going after is the Jim Demint led Heritage groups, and DeMint’s former PAC, Senate Conservatives Fund. The GOP still needs the ads that the outside groups run during the election season. They are trying to push out the groups who primary incumbents and run ads against Republicans. Boehner made his bed with the tea party, and now he is doing everything in his power to escape it.
