Courtesy of Entertainment Weekly:
In statements that threaten the A&E reality hit’s wildly popular and uplifting brand of faith, family and hunting, the Robertson patriarch said: “Everything is blurred on what’s right and what’s wrong… Sin becomes fine. Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.” Robertson then paraphrased Corinthians from the Bible: “Don’t be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers—they won’t inherit the kingdom of God. Don’t deceive yourself. It’s not right.”
And if that wasn’t explicit enough, the “Duck Commander” added: “It seems like, to me, a vagina—as a man—would be more desirable than a man’s anus. That’s just me. I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying? But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.”
The magazine suggested Robertson’s son Jep endorsed his family’s beliefs: “We’re not quite as outspoken as my dad, but I’m definitely in line. If somebody asks, I tell ’em what the Bible says.”
Well that resulted in GLAAD issuing a condemnation of the statement.
Which of course resulted in A&E forcing Phil Robertson to issue and almost apology, but not quite, like statement:
A&E released this statement from Phil Robertson addressing the controversy: “I myself am a product of the 60s; I centered my life around sex, drugs and rock and roll until I hit rock bottom and accepted Jesus as my Savior. My mission today is to go forth and tell people about why I follow Christ and also what the Bible teaches, and part of that teaching is that women and men are meant to be together. However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other.” Beyond that, A&E had no comment.
Okay here's my question, concerning the potential for A&E losing viewers over this, do ANY gay people even watch Duck Dynasty?
And here's my second question, did ANYBODY expect these hillbillies to NOT to homophobic? I mean to me it is almost like being shocked that people attending a KKK rally don't care for black people that much.
After all look who these guys hang out with.
Nuff said.
P.S. You can read the entire GQ article here.
Update: Oops looks like somebody got suspended:
A&E broke its silence on Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson’s anti-gay comments late Wednesday.
The cable network announced Robertson is off the hit show for the time being.
Hey if Alec Baldwin has to be let go for comments made in a fit of anger, there is NO way these ZZ Top wannabes are going to get a free pass.
NO WAY !!!! The bird nest beards on those inbreds are custom grown to gently hold the balls of their Uncles while they are blowing them, Its a move they call the "Duck Suck "

ReplyDeleteHe was talking to Sarah Heath Palin about her brother the adulterer, Chuck Heath, Jr.
I don't get the love for this show. All the stores have DD junk--t-shirts and things--and I get sick of the fawning. I don't watch reality shows anyway, but I don't understand the drooling over people like this.
ReplyDeleteI do. The USA has more than its share of imbeciles and bigoted assholes.
DeleteSure he's pissed. Just look at him. Imagine, how many guys have turned him down?
ReplyDeleteI don't agree with Phil on this, and he has a lot of strong opinions that he airs on the show that I don't agree with. But I do like the show. And if you have seen the show then you will know that Phil and his sons are college educated. Calling them hillbillies and other names does not make a valid argument. I really get tired of that from both sides. Give us your reasoning without degrading the other side.
ReplyDelete"Bigot" seems accurate enough, since folks of all stripes can be that. Even college eddicated folks.
DeleteThank you. Bigot is right.
DeleteJust because someone has been to college does not mean they are intelligent.
Delete"Birther Queen" Orly Tate is a lawyer. And she is a complete loon.
If Phil and his sons were *educated*, they would KNOW that there are religions all over the world that do not hold Christ as the central figure - and they would be *intelligent* enough to understand why.
Also, anyone who uses the phrase "Because it's in the Bible" has shown their willful ignorance, as the Bible is a relic slapped together by powerful people who pushed their own agenda.

Whose "intolerant"???
IGNORANT HYPOCRITS
woops, who is, not whose,
DeleteDIsbelieving in gay marriage doesn't make one homophobic. Sarah isn't anti-gay.
ReplyDelete4:06 PM Being married to Todd 'Sweet Feet' Palin, she couldn't be Homophobic. Even her Ghostwriter RAM is Lusting after Sarah.
Delete@4:06 I know, some of her best friends are......
DeleteDid you even read the article? Where does it say anything about gay marriage? He was speaking about gay's in general. That's what makes what he said as homophobic.
DeleteI would also say in all likelihood Sarah is also homophobic if she's as religious as she claims. Sarah also doesn't seem very tolerant of opinions and behavior that is not like her own. Although, I'll give her some credit for hiring RAM who is a lesbian, and married to another lesbian. RAM also seems to be very loyal to Palin and does most of Sarah's ghost writing for only $6000 a month. Because of her loyalty, cheep price for a ghost writer, and willing to keep Sarah's many flaws quit may be the only reason Sarah has her around. We may never know for sure unless RAM herself says something negative about their relationship.
From SP's FB:
DeleteFree speech is an endangered species. Those “intolerants” hatin’ and taking on the Duck Dynasty patriarch for voicing his personal opinion are taking on all of us.
Now tell us again she's not anti-gay
RAM knows her place. She tried once to stand up over with Bristol.

2 mins ago - 'Duck Dynasty' Star Phil Robertson Fired Following Anti-Gay Remarks ... 'Duck Dynasty': A&E Fires Phil Robertson Following Gay Remarks.
I haven't really watched A&E since they stopped being a culture network and became a ratings whore network. The last times I used to watch them was when they were showing excellent BBC/ITV serializations of Jane Austen and the like. They're lousy now.
ReplyDeleteM from MD
No they don't surprise me. Nothing is more democratic than prejudice. The same man who says 'nigger' also says 'faggot' and sooner or later refers to a woman as 'just a piece of ass.'
ReplyDeleteNo, this gay man has never heard of them, never watched them, and knowing they're anybody Palin endorses that would be enough to stay away without the racism and homophobia, but along with their apparent indifference to bathing and clueless grooming, it'd be one more common wavelength explaining the association with Palin.
It's been my experience it's always the ugliest straight guys who are convinced gay men are waiting their chance to pounce on them. They're all yours ladies. To paraphrase the still-mourned George Carlin, 'I wouldn't fuck any of them with a stolen dick.'
Some words to home school your kids with, Bristol.
Delete"It's been my experience it's always the ugliest straight guys who are convinced gay men are waiting their chance to pounce on them."
DeleteThis! IMO, it's repressed wishful thinking on their part...
Like Anon@4:16 sez, 'Duck Dynasty' star suspended for anti-gay comments.
ReplyDeleteLOL
DeleteNot all gay men have anal sex. I have had quite a few gay friends through the years and many of them did not participate in anal sex. Most of those who didn't just preferred the company of men (and had other forms of sexual contact... oral... etc...) So these statements about why men would prefer an anus over a vagina just goes to show the ignorance on the subject.
ReplyDeleteLuckily only gay people have anal sex!
Deleteoops, and to you, too, Gryph! You are a much needed voice and I definitely know that I'm not the only one here so thankful for your blog,
ReplyDeleteWatched a few minutes of the duck guys once or twice. Pretty boring. When they allowed themselves to be photographed with the palin I knew I would never waste another minute watching this waste of airtime Ex Cat
ReplyDeleteI wanna know how Phil Robertson perfected his duck calls.. Beastiality with a duck or now known as Philduckin..
ReplyDeleteI wanna know how Phil Robertson perfected his duck calls.. Beastiality with a duck or now known as Philduckin..
ReplyDeleteToo funny! Phil Robertson takes it up the ass from A&E..
Yep!
DeleteWonder what Si has to say about this?
I watched part of an episode of Phil getting 'married'. Si was attached to the couple, their entire marriage it seems. There is something Phil won't say in public.
DeleteThe curse of Sarah Palin strikes AGAIN. People had better not have 'audiences' with her - she is the plague.
ReplyDeleteI think this guy should have been suspended...the nation is changing...and, we are in a business world that has a bottom line of making money! Entertainers and politicians need to check their giant egos at the door when being interviewed.
"Free speech is an endangered species," someone wrote on Palin's Facebook.
Delete"Those 'intolerants' hatin’ and taking on the Duck Dynasty patriarch for voicing his personal opinion are taking on all of us." Bernie Quigley, a columnist for The Hill, wrote that Palin is the politician who most resonates with the Duck Dynasty nation. That spells trouble, The Palin Curse is real.
BWAHAHAHAHA, it always happens after Sarah Palin endorses a Faux Celebrity. The Palin Curse lives on, just ask Tim Tebow.
ReplyDeleteSarah Palin's Facebook: Free speech is an endangered species. Those “intolerants” hatin’ and taking on the Duck Dynasty patriarch for voicing his personal opinion are taking on all of us.
ReplyDeleteHere's the thing about the Freedom of Speech that Track bravely defended where ever he was defending it. You can say anything you want, but you have to be prepared to live with the consequences of what you say. What the Duck guy said was hateful, and A&E doesn't have to keep someone with that kind of mouth on their network.
LIKE!
DeleteLet me get this straight. Martin Bashir suggested that Sarah Palin didn't understand how awful slavery was, and maybe she should get a taste of that awful treatment. It did not actually describe the graphic details of the abuse. He just hinted that Sarah deserved the same treatment. Free speech. Criticism. Good bye Martin.
ReplyDeleteNow the Duck Dynasty guy says some pretty hateful stuff, too. Like MSNBC, A&E didn't want to be associated with that kind of graphic hate filled speech, even if it was given in an interview to another media. People watching the Ducks' program on A&E would associate that network with the terrible, rude remarks that the Duck guy made. Sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander, and the duck, too, you betcha.
The pee puddle is up in arms!
ReplyDeleteexcopconservative idesign2 • an hour ago
I guess having your own opinion is no longer tolerated. What happened to the freedom to express your ideas even if they differ from those of others and even if they offend others?
How soon they forget their outrage at Bashir, and calling for him to be fired. Hypocrites of the highest order.
Anon@5:47pm--
DeleteYeah...LOL!! So how do the overgrown, overfed toddlers explain crying for their Mommy Mods to "clean up on Aisle 3" whenever someone posts a comment they don't want to hear?
And Sarah Palin once again proves she does not understand the constitutional right to free speech. From her twitter
ReplyDelete"Free speech is endangered species; those "intolerants" hatin' & taking on Duck Dynasty patriarch for voicing personal opinion take on us all"
(I Wonder if she was trying for "intolerance" or if she thinks she can make an adjective plural.)
Verify that was Sarah or that is her ghostwriter.
DeleteWhere's Sarah?
Mansour or French finally were inspired to get to work (facebook Palin)
ReplyDeletehttps://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10152099792278588&set=a.10150723283643588.424640.24718773587&type=1
Still know sign that Sarah Palin is among the living. It is just something posting and commenting for her.
Free Speech is an Endangered Species? What drug is she on? Are there "Free Speech Reserves" to build up the population of the "species"? What does a "free Speech" look like? What's it's natural habitat? And more importantly, does it have gun sites over it's name?
DeleteAs long as Sarah and Bristol spew that crap, there is still freedom of speech. And, we have the right to criticize what they say. That's our freedom of speech.
DeleteI'm actually more worried about Phil comparing anyone who doesn't believe in Jesus to ... Nazis: 'Look at any society where there is no Jesus. I'll give you four: Nazis, no Jesus. Look at their record. Uh, Shintos? They started this thing in Pearl Harbor. Any Jesus among them? None. Communists? None. Islamists? Zero [...] Just look at the records as far as murder goes among those four groups.'
ReplyDeletehttp://thestir.cafemom.com/entertainment/165745/duck_dynasty_stars_gay_bashing
Not to blaspheme -- but Jesus Christ, Phil. Did you just compare all Shintos to Nazis? And propagate an erroneous stereotype that says that all Muslims are terrorists? Forget his off the cuff gay bashing -- this sort of talk is what we should really be worried about.
I'm sure Phil could rationalize that fact that the USA is lousy with Christians but still bombed and invaded Iraq for having non-existent weapons of mass destruction.
DeleteI'd cut him some slack, must be difficult to live knowing you are your older brother's and natural mother's offspring. Are he and Pat Robertson related?
DeleteThe Palin curse lives on!
ReplyDeleteRobertson also looks soapaphobic.
ReplyDeleteNo one took away Robertson's right to free speech .
Palin doesn't seem to understand the concept of
free speech.
Free speech extends to A&E and the sponsors, too.
But, there are consequences to reckless speech .
You can't shout fire in a theater and when you say inflammatory things don't be surprised when
your employers and the sponsors react negatively.
How does the Sportsman Channel feel about The Palin siding with Robertson,
who also made some really dumb comments about blacks living in the South ?
Firelight from palin4america=
ReplyDelete"What A&E and the media are leaving out of the interview is the statement where Phil says “…we just love em …..whether they’re homosexuals, drunks, terrorists…”
They are completely taking his comments out of context. He isn’t passing judgement. He is simply saying it is not for him and he loves everyone no matter what."
OMG these wingers can spin like a top! He loves terrorists?? WOW, if Obama had said that.......
7:07 Reminds me of Bashir's comments being magnified and taken out of context -- 'poop in Sarah's mouth'!! Review it - he didn't say that! Guess it works both ways, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteSo Sarah Palin goes on facebook to stand up for Phil's right to freedom of speech? Isn't that what Martin Bashir was exercising, his right to free speech? Oh, it is only considered free speech if Sarah Palin approves of it? Well, Sarah, here is some free speech for ya' : Bristol Palin is PREGNANT.
ReplyDeleteI know I'm probably in the minority, but I think A&E should have issued a statement condemning the remarks and then let it alone. Suspending one (especially when they know all the guys believe the same thing) just makes them more right wing cult heroes than they already are. Conservatives already feel like persecuted victims, why give them more ammunition? They will just be more popular than ever.
ReplyDeleteI saw the show for the first time the other day and had to turn it off when I saw a skinned squirrel still with its eyes that someone was going to cook. Yuck. I did comment to my husband that for some guys that have probably been on the receiving end of some severe stereotyping they sure are judgmental about those outside their own culture. One of the guys used the term "Hollyweird" which I thought was pretty ironic considering they have their own hit tv show and look pretty weird themselves. Another comment was putting people down from New York.
The Duck team is perfectly free to either find a channel that wants them or start their own. If A&E wants to retain a liability, they are free to do so. A&E is partly owned by a Disney subsidiary, so the business decision to dump the ducks might have been influenced by the Giant Mouse in the Sky.
DeleteI thought that what the Duck Dude said was hateful but it was his freedom of speech right to say it-- and it was the magazine's first amendment right to print it. People are also free to disagree with what he says. Free speech comes with responsibility, and people are accountable for what they say. A&E does not have to air anything that they object to. It's their network. The fired Dog the Bounty Hunter when he was heard making racial comments in a telephone call. MSNBC got rid of Alec Baldwin when he called a photographer homophobic names. Martin Bashir spoke eloquently about subjecting Palin to the horrors of slavery because she didn't seem to understand that slavery is not the same thing as debt. People have been suspended for saying improper things: David Schuster: that the Clintons were "pimping out" Chelsea, meaning that she was campaigning for her mother. If the Duck Dudes cant't take it, they shouldn't dish it out.
ReplyDeleteHey Phil, if there was a homosexual on your back, would you beat him off?
ReplyDeleteOf COURSE Sarah's got her fingerprints all over this piece of shit. He's another Santorum in redneck garb.
http://www.deadline.com/2013/12/duck-dynasty-phil-robertson-suspended-anti-gay-comments/
ReplyDelete" until I hit rock bottom and accepted Jesus as my Savior."
ReplyDeleteI call this the Glenn Beck Fallacy: "I messed up my life. Therefore, you need Jesus."
GWB was a drunkard and he used drugs, and was suddenly saved, too. I think he credits Billy Graham with saving him. It's amazing that you can wipe away all of your crimes and sins when you come to Jesus. The thinking behind that kind of faith is that you can do anything you want, live large and live wild, and then come to Jesus and it will all go away. No, the Duck guy assaulted people in Arkansas, and they paid off the injured family. That's why the Duck Dynasty is in Louisiana, not Arkansas.
DeleteHow many "rock bottoms" does one have and still have the "Until I accepted Jesus as my Personal Savior" (Get out of responsibility free card) excuse? I never bought into the "born again" thing. Forgiveness is demanded most by those who deserve it least.
DeleteAt least Martin Bashir, a big "C" Christian, lives up to what the word actually means.
Remind me again how much the American public loves racial rants, how's Paula Deen doing?
ReplyDeleteDespite the crazy Facebook posts from Sarah and Bristol, and the tweets, no one is taking away the Duck Guy's freedom of speech. In fact, the "hatin'" that Palin doesn't like comes from the "intolerants" exercising their freedom of speech. It is also A&E's right to broadcast or not broadcast the programs and people of their choice.
ReplyDeleteFacebook, twitter, blogs with Sarah and Bristol names are not the actual person writing. Sarah may be in a coma as her ghost writer takes over.
DeleteThe ghost writer does speak for Sarah and it is Sarah' ignorance. Just don't assume she is able to write.
I smell libel and slander!
ReplyDeletehonestly what amazes me is that people are arguing back and forth (and blogging) about some dipshit from a dipshit 'reality' tv show as if this or his 'reality show' opinions affects their (or your) lives at all. turn off the tv folks.
ReplyDeleteThis is not a free speech issue. A&E is not the government and this bigot's constitutional rights have not been violated. Perhaps Sarah Palin should brush up on the constitution (as well as what libertarians and hard core republicans say about at will employment).
ReplyDeleteThis Duck guy traded his free speech for fame and money. A&E now owns his image. He no longer fits into the A&E ideals so he is gone. This is the way of fame and free enterprise.
ReplyDeleteA&E is not the government, it is a business so there is no constitutional issue at hand. The phrase that comes to mind is that he sold his soul to the devil and now the payment is due.
I have watched a few episodes and I could not stomach them. The family is so cruel to one another, tearing each other apart and putting everyone down. The grandfather was ragging on the grandkids. I did not see much love in that family.

Anyone see the irony?? A paragraph from the Old Duck Man himself
ReplyDeleteBut homosexuals aren't alone, Robertson said. "Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers -- they won't inherit the kingdom of God. Don't deceive yourself. It's not right."
Let's see... Adultry, Greed, Slanderers, Swindlers, Sarah, he's talking about you, hon!
For college men, they sure have perfected the stupid in stupidity, to make a dollar. I used to watch the show some, but you realize that they are acting this way. Always killing something, blowing up things, saying the most outrageous stuff. Being super lazy at their jobs. I just couldn't take the way they act.
ReplyDeletePalin curse strikes again!
ReplyDeleteNow that Scarah has weighed in to defend this yutz, if you'd like to contact A&E to thank them for suspending him, here is the contact email: aefeedback@aenetworks.com
ReplyDeleteSarah Palin was against freedom of speech (Emanuel, Letterman, Bashir, Cher, Griffin, Maher) before she was for it (Rush and the Duck Guy). The government can't prevent you from saying anything, but the people you work for may be so embarrassed by your crude remarks that all they want to do is distance themselves from them. Think Paula Deen.
