Rachel Maddow discusses in depth the influence of ALEC in this country and how they are trying to recreate themselves in response to blowback after the Trayvon Martin case.

Does anybody doubt that much of the criticism aimed at Jimmy Carter was the result, not of his problems with the hostages in Iran, but instead due to his attempt to take the country away from fossil fuels, and toward renewable energy sources?

The fact that this group has had such a significant, and negative impact on our politics, is deeply troubling, and should inspire us to keep an eye on them moving forward.

Rachel Maddox is very good when she is allowed to to handle a subject.
I guess Rachel wants to save her job. Too bad the fifth estate is so screwed up and over. Bring back Bashir, a person with a spine.

  2. Rachel would be relevant if she stood with Martin Bashir - but the person of the day is Nelson Mandela - the man who was imprisoned for believing "all men are created equal" - the man who forgave his enemies and walked among them to freedom. The man who took his country to majority rule without a civil war or a white massacre - when so many wanted that war/massacre.

The people at Liberty University should have been listening to the real Christian - Nelson Mandela.

I wish I was over the Bashir travesty. He supposedly left on good terms. MSNBC CEO Griffin praised him in the press release. So why are Bashir's former colleagues silent? Why haven't any of them taken up the issue to put it in perspective of Palin's and the GOP's racism and the casual references to slavery?

Rachel does some excellent reporting but her efforts to filter the news are obvious and she often stops short of what's needed to make a big impact.

Rachel broke the news that Palin exhibited signs of mental imbalance during the 2008 campaign but she allowed Schmidt and Wallace to use generalities, denying the public of critical information. The public is not served by what may be her good intentions.

The Bashir travesty isn't over and you needn't be over it. It is just beginning as far as many are concerned. If RW can they they will shut anyone, anything Bashir Truther down but we need to keep coming back.

Rachel does a good job on the subjects she is allowed to cover. I just wish she had researched Sarah Palin and the Bashir situation and given more support to her colleague at MSNBC before he was fired! Or, why don't she, Ed, Chris, Lawrence and Reverend Al do more counter FOX news coverage with indepth research?

No doubt, given their relationships, Rachel knows whatever Schmidt and Wallace know about Palin.

I wish I could edit the above. I'd delete the 'no doubt' and add some qualifying language. I concede it's more than possible that Rachel has protected herself from knowing all about Palin or that Schmidt and Wallace are unwilling to share certain information.

ALEC had Ted Cruz address its recent big gathering in DC. With today's passing of Nelson Mandela, it's a good time to remember that Ted Cruz has praised Jesse Helms, even to the extent of saying we needed more like him. Helms is possibly the most disgusting, hardcore racist ever elected to the Senate. Helm, the Senator who turned his back while Mandela was addressing our Congress.

Important reminder of the connections between ALEC and the Domionists: http://www.talk2action.org/story/2013/10/8/132658/236/

Astonishing stuff about the Cruz family...

I read about ALEC years ago when Bush was in thanks to Matt Taibbi at Rolling Stone, someone who is always ahead of the media curve. I was sickened to see something like this was allowed to exist and how many GOP elected officials attended their many meetings. They again are like a cancer allowed to prosper thru dark money doing incredible damage to this country. The fact they are a 501C tax exempt "charity" is beyond outrageous....not unlike Karl Rove's GPS. Obama is finally addressing this bullshit which I find so ironic as the GOP witch hunter Issa brought all this attention upon himself by the IRS nonsense with the Tea Party....let the chips fall as they may asshole.

Until Rachel Maddow talks about Sarah Palins faked pregnancy - I do not care. Will not watch MSNBC until Palin is exposed.
    Buhbye Rachel.

  10. At least they are now exposed. Before they were a stealth group, pulling the strings of their puppets. At least now the public is more aware of them than before. Still not enough, but more is better than nothing.

Rachel, as usual, turns every stone, dots her i's and crosses her t's. She's still my favorite journalist on any network. I know people are upset over Martin Bashir's treatment, and I agree to a certain point that it sucks that no one is even mentioning it. It's too new and raw.
We all need to do our part to let msnbc know how disappointed we are over his "resignation", especially when Mark Halperin called President Obama a dick, live on Morning Joe, and still has his job.
Especially when Ed Schultz said some nasty stuff about a conservative woman, apologized and left his show for a few weeks, then returned.
MSNBC should allow Martin to continue contributing as a guest on other shows AND on his own show. Why the double standard and "selective enforcement" of one over the others?
