Is there any doubt it's imperative to protect the heart of Christmas? Take a look at this article about an elementary school in Texas banning Christmas trees and the colors red and green from a “winter” party. Just like I write about it “Good Tidings and Great Joy: Protecting the Heart of Christmas,” every day we see stories like this one, and we need to stiffen our spines, say “enough is enough,” and hold on to REAL hope, America! The real hope that IS the message of Christmas. We can remember and capture that spirit of true hope during this holiday season and commit to live it out every single day. I promise you, it works!
Yes the best way to protect freedom in this country is to marginalize and ostracize those who do not celebrate the Christmas, nor share the same faith, as the REAL Americans.
Of course this story was reported by Palin's pet Fox News reporter, and fellow Christmas Commando, Todd Starnes, who overreacted as if children were having their toys literally ripped from their hands:
An elementary school in Frisco, Texas is believed to be the first in the state to violate “The Merry Christmas Law” after they banned Christmas trees and the colors red & green from an upcoming “winter” party. (The "Merry Christmas Law" is the bill signed into law by Rick Perry in June which, despite the 1st Amendment, allows Texas schools to say Merry Christmas, and display holiday decorations representing any religion. Can hardly wait until the Islamic community tries to get their local public school to decorate for Ramadan. THEN we'll see how inclusive this law really is.)
Boys and girls who attend the Nichols Elementary School “Winter Party” will not be able to make any reference to Christmas or any other religious holiday. Christmas trees are also banned – along with the colors red and green.
It should be noted that this party is being put on by the their local PTA and the guidelines are not coming from the school district. It should also be noted that each school and PTA are allowed to make their own rules for their parties.
Kind of sounds like that "freedom" thing Palin is always going on about, doesn't it?
Down toward the bottom of the page Starnes does manage to let the Principal of the school explain the thinking behind the guidelines:
“She [the principal] said they didn’t want to offend any families and since each family donates money they feel this is the best policy."
So the PTA, and the principal, are trying to be inclusive, and make everybody, despite their cultural or religious background, feel comfortable.
But hey, Fox News has a War on Christmas to pimp, and Sarah Palin has books to sell, so fuck them right?
Starnes style of "journalism" has made at least one school in Georgia feel terrorized by his harassment and histrionic misreporting of "facts" about their school:
A school district in Georgia blasted Fox News on Tuesday and said that they had been “terrorized” after one of the network’s radio hosts falsely reported that Christmas cards had been “confiscated.”
In a Tuesday report, Fox News radio host Todd Starnes turned his daily outrage to allegations that students at Brooklet Elementary School had returned from the Thanksgiving holiday to find that the school’s administration had decided to “confiscate the Christmas cards” that teachers had posted outside classrooms.
Starnes branded the schools’ actions as “Christmas card censorship.”
Brooklet Principal Marlin Baker told WSAV that the “censorship” charge was just not true and that Starnes didn’t bother checking the facts before publishing his report.
“The decision to move the poster had nothing, absolutely nothing, at all to do with any type of religious conversation that is going on in the county,” Martin explained.
The principal said that the Christmas card poster had been moved to a faculty work room in order to accommodate the privacy request of one teacher.
And now the school has been flooded with angry calls and emails because of the misreporting.
Gee no wonder Palin likes him so much.
The Heart of Christmas, the most important part of Christmas should be the celebration of the birth of Christ. There are people who do not practice that religion-- and of those who do, they may each do it in different ways.For that reason, the religious celebration does not belong in a public school. It belongs in church, usually midnight mass.

My biggest question...why does anyone even care whether or not a school has a Christmas party? Children get plenty of opportunity to celebrate at home and at church. School parties are often a burden for administrators, teachers, and parents. Why are the fundamentalists so insecure that they feel threatened without specific endorsement of their preferences by the school system?
Have a candy cane for breakfast, pray in church on the way to school, and eat fruit cake for lunch (after praying, of course). Stop in church on the way home, sing some songs, perform an act of charity and go to church again. No one is stopping you from the practice of your religion. And, pray at home, too. Just, please, don't use my tax money for religion in the public schools. Where I live, there are people who do not celebrate Christmas and you are making them uncomfortable. And, please, oh please do not try to do Christmas around the world. Jews, Muslims, Native Americans. Buddhists, and Hindus are all rolling their eyes and saying, "Please, school is for learning, not for celebrating just one religion."

Not only was CBJ not there, there is no way in hell that she would ever even be a high risk OB as a family practice physician. I've done alot of research on this. FPP need alot of continuing medical education as well as high malpractice insurance to act as a high risk OB. THe Wasilla area has 38 legitimate high risk OB, so ther was no need to CBj as an FPP, to try and act like one. She did not do any requisite c- sections needed to keep high risk OB credentials.
It is pure and utter bullshit to think that CBJ would risk her license and insurance to be a high risk OB for a high profile sitting governor.

Someone telephoned MatSu, claiming to be in a late stage of pregnancy and living in the area. She added that she knew that she was carrying a special needs child, and she wanted to know if MatSu was equipped to hand a birth in her case, especially a premature birth. Or, if not, then, she was calling to find the nearest hospital that would handle that birth.
DeleteMatSu officials told her that they could not handle the premature birth of a special needs child. If she showed up in labor, and there was enough time, they would put her in an ambulance and speed her off to Anchorage where there was a hospital that had doctors who could handle that kind of birth and a neonatal facility. (We all agree that Dr. CBJ could not deliver that kind of birth).
The conclusion was that Sarah could not have given birth to Trig, a premature birth with special needs, at MatSu. She claimed to arrive around midnight and she claimed that she had to be induced, giving birth by 6 AM. That means that there was more than enough time to transport her to Anchorage, and the birth would not have taken place at MatSu. (Sorry, Chuck and Sally, that photo of you with the big pink baby was a fake).
After the person published the results of her phone call, Sarah's Right to Life speeches had a slight change. Instead of Trig at 8 months at MatSu, he suddenly arrived in Anchorage at 7 1/2 months. She is recorded as saying this in two different speeches. No mother forgets the circumstances of the birth of her children.

DeleteIt was very easy to find out. Duty rosters are not privileged info. I asked for them and was able to get them. This was about two and a half years ago when baby gate first landed on my radar. I was amazed how easy it was to prove Sarah's entire "birth story" was fraudulent.
Hospital duty rosters are sacrosanct in terms of accuracy; they have to be when drugs are being dispensed and procedures/surgeries authorized.
The duty rosters are computerized and every physician, nurse, nurse practitioner, STNA, & anyone else involved in patient care is listed for every shift- and their key cards logging them in and out are noted with down to the second time stamps.
Bottom line: CBJ WAS NOT THERE. Not the day of, or the day before, or the day after.
WHY is this not a bigger deal?

I don't know for sure why the ear looks different, but I would assume it has a lot to do with the passage of time between the pictures in Sarah's kitchen (Ruffled ear) and the 2008 RNC. I do believe that both the baby in the kitchen and the 2008 RNC baby are the same child. The pictures taken at the 2008 RNC are date-certain...we know for sure when they were taken. The pictures taken in Sarah's kitchen were obviously taken when he was newly born. There is no way that tiny kitchen baby grew into the giant child onstage at the 2008 RNC in only a few months. And, being the same child, the only explanation, to me, is that the pictures from Sarah's kitchen were taken much earlier than May of 2008. It is my belief that they were taken in May of 2007, or thereabouts.
It is my contention that Trig was at least one year old, and likely even older, when he appeared onstage at the 2008 RNC. He could have worn prosthetic ear coverings, or he could have had some surgical repair to his ears during the first year of his life.
So, to answer your question, I could possibly agree with you that the child at the 2008 RNC is fitted with a prosthetic device; but, I think the more important take away is that he appears to be much older than the four months claimed by the campaign.

ReplyDeleteThe most holy holiday is Easter, where people also fast, or do without a special food or drink. Once upon a time, there were more restrictions, fewer days without meat. Butter was supposed to be eliminated back in the day-- anything that tasted good. The point is to focus on the holy through sacrifice and redemption. The most holy day in the Jewish calender, Yom Kipper, is also a day of dedication, fasting and prayer. I hope that Sarah has lots of recipes for Christmas goodies in her Christian Religious book.

ReplyDeleteI don't recall ever celebrating Christmas at school. May have made a holiday decoration or two, not religious, more pagan. There was plenty of Christmas at friends and home. Church was about Christ. It was old fashion. Not as commercialization.
DeleteI don’t remember Christmas being such a big deal at school either! And I was an elementary school student in the early’60s. Where is this mythical spot where Christmas was all encompassing and beloved? I do remember in the occasional classroom we exchanged gifts, but it mostly was a Santa Claus and good cheer thing. No religion. Like you, that was in our homes. I think people were just a bit more considerate of other people’s private lives. It wasn’t assumed anyone was just Christian. I felt the uptick of the religious fervor in the mid-1990s when my kids were in grade school. It was like everyone had had forgotten Joe McCarthy and Limbaugh and other hate radio jocks stepped in to let loose some extremely noxious talk and railing about “politically correct” behavior. I remember thinking it did not bode well for sensitive and tolerant people that bullies could get so much air time. Obviously, this is the period Sarah Palin fomented her ugly John Birch politics. She just couldn’t get any real traction until the GOP in Alaska went too far. I will never forget when she launched her campaign after the gas drilling wars in the Valley. She was primed and out of the gate — looking for a way out of her sad little life.
