Two men attempt to light "Keep Saturn in Saturnalia" sign on fire. Well so much for religious diversity in this country.

Courtesy of South Jersey Times:

Someone tried to torch the “Saturnalia” billboard on the edge of town Tuesday night.

An off-duty police officer from another municipality was in Carolina Blue with a number of friends when they looked across the intersection of Lambs Road and Holly Avenue at about 11:45 p.m. and spotted two men underneath the billboard, which proclaims “Keep Saturn in Saturnalia.”

The billboard was erected by the Freedom from Religion Foundation, the organization’s way of countering the “Keep Christ in Christmas” banner that hangs across Broadway, Pitman’s main thoroughfare. The Christmas banner is erected by the Knights of Columbus.

The FFRF has been objecting to the Christmas banner since at least 2011, insisting it is illegally hung, without receipt of proper permits.

Despite the fact that the billboard features a depiction of the ringed planet Saturn, Saturnalia was an ancient Roman holiday named after Saturn, a Roman deity. The holiday took place near the Winter Solstice — which occurs on Dec. 21 this year — and featured public feasting and gift-giving.

That was not the first attempt to destroy or deface the sign either by the way: Also on Sunday, a man accompanied by a woman and child put an extension ladder against the billboard and prepared to climb up and paste a poster with a picture of a manger on it over top of the Saturnalia sign. Police intervened and the protesters left.

Sure the religious people are always talking about freedom of speech and diversity, but put up one billboard celebrating the TRUE reason for the season and what them lose their shit.

I gotta tell you this stuff is cracking me up this year.

I hope the FFR folks keep on posting signs and billboards because it just emphasizes how bigoted and intolerant (and un-Christian) are the people who want to tear/burn them down.

This morning I went to a petstore to buy dog food. I brought my purchases to the cashier who wished me a Merry Christmas. I said, "I don't celebrate Christmas, so Happy Holidays to you!" and she looked frightened, like she was about to get reprimanded because I said Happy Holidays.

  6. What is Fascism?

When the elite are the only ones with freedom of speech, democracy, etc. And everyone else lives under the yoke of oppression.

So according to these elites, the war on Christmas won't be over until everyone else sits down and shuts up.

Ooooh, this billboard is oh so threatening! Stupid, unevolved and rigidly single-minded "Christians" thinks their "god" sent them on a holy mission...whoopie! Now just go to Hell.

    Happy X-mas or Happy HOLIDAYS?

The full greeting many years ago was:
Have a merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

As X-mas became more commercialized over the years and people got more stressed out, the salutation got shortened into:
    Happy holidays.

I love the comments on that link

"Wow, trying to burn steel signposts with gasoline....now that's what I call Faith"
I can't help but smile. Are people SO insecure that they feel the need to destroy a sign that happens to not agree with their own beliefs? It's just a sign, no one's threatening nor taking away your holiday nor right to worship.

This time of year should be about love. But these angry small "c" christians with lawyers have to ruin it for everyone.

I took my dog to the groomer's today, she's a lovely lady and treats my dog like a king. Anyway, she had all these different buttons and decorations in her shop. Three different "Buddah" statues, Festivus Pole, a traditional nativity, a menorah, and a Kwanza/ harvest display. There was a huge banner above everything that said "Pick One, Love one another, Enjoy your friends and family, Be Nice or Go Home".
As I was leaving, she wished me a happy holiday and healthy new year. I left there feeling pretty warm and fuzzy. She's trying her best and using humor that can't offend anyone.
