Why the Religious Right is excited about 2014, and YOU should be encouraging everybody you know to get out and vote.

Courtesy of Salon:

Last week, the Senate voted 52-48 to eliminate the ability of the minority party in the Senate to filibuster executive branch nominees and any judgeship below the Supreme Court by changing the requirements for passage to a simple majority vote. It was a historic move made because there was no other alternative, given the GOP’s unprecedented abuse of the filibuster. In the history of the United States, 168 presidential nominees have been filibustered. Half occurred under all presidents from Washington through to Bush. Remarkably, the other half has taken place under just one president: Obama.

Why such aggressive judicial obstructionism by the GOP?

Washington Post columnist E.J. Dionne Jr. writes, “This era’s conservatives will use any means at their disposal to win control of the courts. Their goal is to do all they can to limit Congress’s ability to enact social reforms.”

The Christian Right, which is the GOP’s most reliable and agitated voting bloc, is obsessed with the courts, and the Court of Appeals for the D.C. circuit is the nation’s second most important judicial body, which is why Republicans “gave the game away when all but a few of them opposed Obama’s three most recent appointments.”

Now that Democrats were forced into limiting the filibuster, the Christian Right has its incentive to mobilize for 2014. A simple majority control of the Senate gives it an opportunity to pack the courts with judges straight out of the Justice Scalia mold, who once said that separation of church and state would come under scrutiny under a Supreme Court with a Scalia majority. If the Christian Right sweeps Republicans to control the Senate in next year’s midterms, the anti-secularists will take a big step forward toward their stated ideological goals.

So is it possible that the Right Wing lured Harry Reid and the Democrats into a trap?

Well if they did it is only a trap that works if the progressives turn out in the low numbers that are traditional for us in non-Presidential election cycles.

They are essentially counting on the fact that due to the Edward Snowden revelations, the Healthcare.gov glitches, and the usual mid-term election malaise that we will be uninspired, unmotivated, and uninterested in going to the polls.

Well I say screw them! I think we WILL turn out in big numbers and fight to hold onto what we have, and even push to gain more.

We know we can do it, the demographic numbers are on our side, the energy is on our side, and the ideas are on our side, so let's get fired up, and ready to go!

  1. In Virginia, this past Nov. 5th, I was awake less than an hour and only half finished my first cup of coffee before heading to the poll to vote against Cuccinelli, there before 10 in '12 to vote Obama, pre-dawn in '08 to vote Obama. Next November I'll step over dead bodies or as nuclear snow falls to vote for every goddamn Democrat I can.

My state went blue for all of them, but nevertheless my country went to Cooch, Romney, McCain and Shitty McWhatsername, but there's no fucking Republican on this old boy's conscience.

The Religious Right Is Counting On the Courts To Help Them Achieve Their Tyrannical Goals

...The truth is that without a robust turnout by Democrats in 2014, all Americans will regret a GOP Senate that will ensure only judges sympathetic to fundamentalist Christians will ever reach the bench. The only reason the Supreme Court is hearing the Hobby Lobby corporate conscience case is because the 10th Circuit ruled the corporation’s “faith” overruled employees’ religious freedom that two other Circuits struck down as absurd. One thing is certain, the religious right is motivated and angry that Senate Republicans can no longer block nominees who are not conservative extremists and they will turn out in force in 2014.

Sorry to burst your bubble and all, but Hobby Lobby has no problem wi5h birth control. Their only complaint is the 4 drugs, out of the 20 provided by the ACA that are abortion inducing drugs.

You also don't lose your right to free speech or to practice your religion just because you start a business.

The War On Christmas is in Full Effect at Fox with Todd Starnes as the Little Drummer Boy

...The thing is, this is his shtick. This is what Todd Starnes does. He tries to build outrage where there isn’t any. He is there to stick up for the people who he feels are the most discriminated in this country: white, heterosexual Christians. If it takes ginning up fake stories or just straight up lying, well, that is what has to be done. See, he is fighting the good fight, and being untruthful and misleading is just part of winning the war.

Insurers Claiming Problems with Website Are Conspiring With Republicans to Kill the ACA

...I went to source this “problem” per the the NYT article and found many “some insurers say” and then this:

“Until the enrollment process is working from end to end, many consumers will not be able to enroll in coverage,” said Karen M. Ignagni, president of America’s Health Insurance Plans, a trade group.

Karen is the President of the health insurance industry super lobby, America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP). They’re a national political advocacy and trade association. According to Open Secrets, they spent $9,340,000 in 2012 and $6,790,000 thus far in 2013 lobbying .

In 2010, Bloomberg reported that US Chamber of Commerce got $86.2 million from AHIP to oppose the healthcare reform law, “as the industry urged Congress to drop a plan to create a competing government-run insurance plan.”

In 2012, AHIP was busted for secretly spending $102.4 million spent over just 15 months to defeat ObamaCare by funneling money to the Chamber of Commerce,

    1. Fantasizing again, loser traitor? We will never let traitors like you take over and destroy this country.

Also you are a moron if you really are stupid enough to think the the President of the United States is a) Kenyan, b) muslim, c) socialist.

You obviously are too stupid, uneducated, and ignorant to know what any of those terms mean.

Also, you clearly are not a Christian at all. A true Christian would not repeatedly "spread false witness" about anyone.

Have you no shame? Of course not. You are stupid. You are a traitor. You mock Jesus. Shame on you.

Also, when you repeat your stupid talking points, people rebut them. So readers see not only your asinine comments, but the facts that refute them. Repeated, over and over again.

More proof that you are just plain stupid. Just keep on helping real Americans who know you and your cult queen Palin for the traitors that you are!

Just when you thought the GOP could not behave more despicably, we have Scott Walker wanting to make all the little children cry by taking away their Christmas presents.

He actually sent out an email, suggesting that parents NOT buy presents for their children but, instead, donate to money to Walker's campaign.

“Instead of electronics or toys that will undoubtedly be outdated, broken, or lost by the next Holiday Season, help give your children the gift of a Wisconsin that we can all be proud of”

Can you just imagine the poor little children on Christmas morning, with nothing under the tree but a receipt for a political donation?

What a disgusting piece of slime he is!

They can try to blow smoke up people's butts, we'll just have to keep showcasing what President Obama has managed to accomplish. The stock market and the economy are on the right track, a certain website is working, and the only accomplishment the GOP has under their belts was the Government Shutdown.
This next election cycle, we'll work our butts off to GOTV, just as we did these past two elections.

Wow. Every Republican voted against this law, argued against it, they chose NOT to do it in 2005, yet it is already Republican fault that Harry Reid made this stupid move?!?

Again I say: Wow, just Wow.

    Dumbass
