Father accidentally shoots daughter while cleaning his gun. My wish in 2014 is to never have to write a headline like this again.

Courtesy of the AP:

Authorities say an 11-year-old girl has been shot in a leg after her father accidentally discharged a gun he was cleaning in Avondale.

Avondale police say the child was transported to a hospital from an Avondale home Thursday afternoon with a non-life-threatening injury.

According to a police dispatcher, the child's father was cleaning the firearm in the garage when an ammunition round became jammed.

"When he went to try to clear it, it accidentally discharged," said Avondale Police Sgt. Brandon Busse.

Authorities say the gun somehow went off, sending the round through two walls before it grazed the girl in the leg.

"The gun SOMEHOW went off?"

It still had a bullet in it, THAT'S how it "somehow went off."

I am not a gun owner but even I know that your carefully unload your weapon before cleaning them.

I imagine that when this father purchased that gun he had fantasies of protecting his family from burglars, or fighting off hordes of illegals coming over the border, but instead all he did was permanently scar, and almost kill, his own child.

So much for the idea that a gun in every home ensures less gun violence.

Incident happened in Arizona by the way. Seems like all the ignorant people are gathering there these days doesn't it?

4-Year-Old Accidentally Shoots Cousin With Gun Found Under Bed

A 4-year-old girl fatally shot her 4-year-old cousin with a gun the children found underneath a bed in Detroit on Thursday, police told CBS Detroit.

“They were playing in a room inside the home; the female found a long gun underneath the bed and pointed it at the male 4-year-old and pulled the trigger,” Detroit Police spokesman Adam Madera told CBS.

Police have not yet announced any charges in what CBS described as an accidental shooting.

That poor little girl will have to live with the fact that she killed someone, and the adult that put that gun there should lose his or her right to own a gun. Period.

‘Doomsday Prepper’ arrested on weapons charges after cops see the show

...Smith made statements on the show about his doomsday prepping such as: “We’re not in it to stockpile. We’re in it to take what you have and there’s nothing you can do to stop us. We are your worst nightmare, and we are coming.”

The voice of a mass murderer:

Audio: Adam Lanza’s bizarre call to a radio station one year before Sandy Hook massacre

    http://freakoutnation.com/2014/01/16/audio-adam-lanzas-bizarre-call-to-a-radio-station-one-year-before-sandy-hook-massacre/

In an audiotape of a call Lanza made to an Oregon college radio station obtained by The Daily News - and vouched for by two old friends - the madman waved a giant red flag that he was about to explode almost exactly a year before the Sandy Hook massacre.

Using the name Greg and apparently taking pains to disguise his voice, Lanza weighed-in on mass murder by comparing “a teenage mall shooter” to Travis, a chimpanzee who became infamous after ripping the face off a Connecticut woman in 2009.

In doing so, Lanza provided a frightening look not seen thus far into the twisted logic and troubled mind of the 20-year-old killer.

“His attack can be seen entirely parallel to the attacks and random acts of violence that you bring up on your show every week, committed by humans, which the mainstream also has no explanation,” Lanza says of Travis at one point.

"My wish in 2014 is to never have to write a headline like this again."

Good luck with that, Gryphen, These 'accidents' - which aren't really accidents - are certain to increase over time as more and more Americans have unlimited access to firearms, thanks to the gun industry trade/lobby association known as NRA.

A Tennessee man is alive after accidentally shooting himself in the chin as he was getting undressed Sunday night.

Carter County Sheriff’s Deputy David Caldwell told the Johnson City Press that William Rood apparently left a loaded .25 caliber Beretta pistol in his right front pants pocket (we gather he packs to the right) and as he placed the pants on his dresser, the weapon fired one bullet striking Rood in the nose and chin, finally lodging in his neck.

50 Round Magazine Being Sold for ‘Self-Defense’ to Drooling Gun Nuts Packing AR-15s

Prepare yourself for this one folks, because you are going to have a hell of a time prying this new AR-15 attachment from the “cold dead hand” of gun nuts pitching tents and wetting their wads over the newest “self-defense” magazine on the market: Say hello to the “NY Legal 50 Round AR-15 Magazine” from FAB Defense.

Remember though, it’s only purpose is for self-defense, okay? OKAY?

That 50 round clip is for LOSERS. REAL men are waiting for the release of the 200 round clip affectionately called "The Compensator". Its shaft is a satisfying 8 inches in circumference and from base to bulbous tip, it's a VERY impressive 15" long. That distinctive tip, precision engineered of high-tech titanium alloys, carbon fiber and life-like molded synthetic rubber, encloses a revolutionary induction air flow regeneration distribution hub - or some such nonsense - which is guaranteed to satisfy EVERY man, no matter how inadequate or insecure they happen to be.

Like the jingle says "Strap on a Compensator Today! You won't be disappointed*! And neither will she!"

      @Beldar
I feel a little guilty laughing on such a serious post but that was funny.

I can't believe how many people who own guns don't understand that there is still a bullet in the chamber even after you remove the clip. I think of myself as deeply liberal. But I'm not interested in taking away guns. However I'm a firm believer in laws and regulations. More training is required to drive a car than to purchase a gun, like it's some kind of toy. Meh.

I have a friend who occasionally posts some extremely conservative things on Facebook (which I suspect originate from her husband). I try to overlook them because she also posts some things that are pretty liberal (although not as frequently).

The other day she posted a picture of what I suppose was a car accident with a quote that said -
"If you don't have to give up your car because others drive drunk with theirs...
then why do you have to give up your gun because others commit crimes with theirs?"

How do you even argue with stupidity like that?

Perhaps with logic? Cars were designed for a completely different purpose. To transport one from Point A to Point B. Sometimes, people die as a result of a car accident. Though fewer and fewer in the last fifty years.
Guns were designed specifically to kill. People and animals. I'm sure you already know this but I find more and more that gun nuts dont know this until its pointed out to them. They have a similar argument with forks and heart disease.

I tried that strategy with former colleague who is young and tends to follow her father's political path which is very right-wing. Not too long ago, she reposted some absurd thing about guns and the evil libruls who were coming to take them away. I politely made a very logical argument to show how the claim was wrong and received some rather rude responses from people I don't even know.

The logic didn't have any impact and she continues to post things like that on occasion. Just tonight she posted a picture from Survival Magazine about guns, pencils, cars and spoons. I just deleted it so it doesn't raise my blood pressure.

As for the quote above, I wanted to point out that people need a license to drive, have to take a test and renew that license every few years, are required to register that car (which has a permanent VIN number that allows the ownership of that car to be tracked) and purchase insurance, and that auto manufacturers are constantly changing and improving the safety features of their products to protect the public, but I decided not to get into an argument!

    3. So your implying that every gun owner should have to register, purchase insurance and have a GIN(gun identification number)? How will that reduce gun violence. As a gun owner/collector I really try to see both sides ... their are approx 43-55 million gun owners in the US today... not accounting for the criminals that get guns illegally. I own alot of firearms and have always had them in a safe and always keep safety #1. When I read about these gun owners especially the one from Avondale Arizona... it really makes me sick to my stomach. These individuals are the ones that give people like me a bad name. I don't blame the liberals for thinking the way they do... I would to if I was opposed of guns. But you must realize that their are millions and millions of law abiding citizens that value human life and respect firearms.

The NRA Is Directly Behind A Bill Loosening Florida's 'Stand Your Ground' Law

Lawmakers are aiming to expand Florida's "stand your ground" law with the help of a top NRA lobbyist.

Gawker's Adam Weinstein reported that S.B. 448, which would protect someone who fires warning shots or waves a weapon when they feel threatened, was written by Marion Hammer, a former NRA president.

The bill would amend the current law, which permits residents to use deadly force under certain circumstances, to allow the "threatened use of force." Gun owners couldn't be arrested for brandishing a gun or firing warning shots. The legislation also could lead to more permissive open-carry laws or lighter requirements for gun licensing.

If passed, S.B. 448 would apply "immunity provisions that relate to the use of force to the threatened use of force," meaning that gun owners wouldn't be subject to state "10-20-life" laws mandating an automatic 10-year sentence for anyone convicted of flashing or using a gun in the commission of a felony.

The "10-20-life" law was passed in 1999. Ironically, Gawker noted, the NRA supported that bill at the time.

"Loosening" a stand-your-ground law??? I think such laws should be eliminated, especially in Florida. There is absolutely no way that the retired policeman who killed a man in a movie theatre because he was texting should be permitted to claim a stand-your-ground defense. He had even left the theatre! No threat to his life or limbs there. He should have 1) moved to a different seat, 2) complained to the theatre manager (whose job it is to take care of such matters), or 3) gone home. He chose to re-enter the theatre and kill the man.

    1. Hey... I can point out plenty of things that MSNBC has done that is immoral, unetheical and just plain not journalism. Foxnews at LEAST has a liberal and a conservative to debate issues. You can bash foxnews all you want... it only makes them bigger... hence the ratings compared to CNN and MSNBC combined.

  12. Blame the NRA, Blame an inanimate object... how about this... the people that do these kinds of reckless acts be held accountable for their actions. Does it even compute in your head that their are millions and millions of people that own/collect firearms and are law abiding/safe people myself included. When I heard about this, the first thing that came to mind is the kid okay and WTF was this idiot thinking. It's people like this that give people like me a bad name or smear my image.

Agreed the gun-owner is an idiot. No one can dispute that. But what I really love is all the gun-haters that believe that the stupidity of a few, dictates what the rest must do. Did any of you ever get in a car accident or know someone that was. I'll bet is WAS preventable, actually ALL accidents are avoidable. But yet I don’t hear you all bitching about banning all cars. Use common sense, ‘haters’ there is bad on all sides, and it is sad the consequences of any of the stupidity. But if you really want to know about how many lives are SAVED by guns, do a little unbiased research. And remember guns don’t kill people… there is always a person behind the trigger. I also hope and pray, yes even for you ‘haters’ that someday a couple of thugs do not enter your home and beat you senseless because you are unable to defend yourselves or your family. Just remember, anything can be dangerous, but it is all about how you apply common sense to them to keep everyone from being in harms way.

  14. I 100% agree with what you said.. I see the liberals point and it makes me angry that some gun owners are so dam careless. Then every gun owner gets "smeared" because of jackasses.
