"Here's what I do, I get on Amazon. I type in 'liberal books.' I go through and I say one star, one star, one star. The flip side is to go to conservative, libertarian, whatever. Go to their products and give them five stars. Okay? So literally 80% of the books I put a star on I don't read."
I imagine that this is exactly how conservative books get such good reviews, and how cable stations like Fox News also get such high ratings. There is a machine in place that simply falsifies data in order to drive an agenda.
Now I would never condone doing this kind of thing in response, though I know some of you do it in response to Palin books, I think as an overall agenda. to perform this sabotage purely along ideological lines is indefensible.
And that is really what is hamstringing the Liberals. You see we believe in fair play and level paying field, the other side has no compunction with cutting corners, falsifying data, or using dirty tricks at every opportunity.
And yet they will, to a person, tell you that THEY are the moral ones and that their agenda is the one most in line with American ideals.
I agree with you. I have done a little commenting on Palin's books, after some of the quotes have been released. But I never spend time trolling to make other conservative books looks bad. And I can't spend three seconds on a rightwing site without gagging, so I don't waste my time there either. But yes, we believe in a level, fair, truthful playing field, something they cannot understand. There really is a difference in our brains. I think theirs have been sucked up by aliens.
ReplyDelete"illegal" aliens or interplanetary aliens?
DeleteSnark!
During the campaign I saw their were troll schools! The goal? "To change the false narrative". Gee where have WE HEARD that? Yes they troll spewing bullshit in hopes it will be swallowed or the convo changed.
DeleteYou can see it everywhere. If you post on Palin they will bring up Obama to change the convo from todd's pimping to some conservative lie about the potus.
Or the "Concern" trolls...Concerned about how a "blog" looks ....lol
All RW trolling tactics.
And they know most lib blogs believe in free speech so they have not much fear that their bullshit will not be posted.
When a troll appears on the blog it should be given one chance, and if it fails, squash it!
I have always thought Yahoo has an inordinate number of trolls and suspected this to be the case. I hear they even get paid!
DeleteEmily Post
It’s disheartening, I agree, but I still won’t stoop to that level. I want to like myself. The dirty tricksters are brought down with no assistance from me.
ReplyDeleteI never bother to read the reviews by readers either- If I'm interested in a book, I read the professional reviews.
ReplyDeleteNobody in their right mind would pay attention to reader reviews, because of your example above, and also because I always wonder exactly how many of the reader reviewers are related to the author.

Then it became the Pee Pond.
Now it's the Pee Puddle.
Getting ever more shallow...in depth and intellect!
Exactly, 8:08 AM. Visited there lately? Only the few diehards remain.
DeleteExactly why I encourage Amazon to adopt the policy, if you didn't order the book, you can't review the book. Those SOB's cheat at everything! If they went to Sunday school, they sure were not paying attention.
ReplyDeleteTexasMel
Oh, I don't know, TexasMel. There are those who are TAUGHT to lie for jesus, remember?
DeleteNo Leland, I don't remember. It was the '70's and I was outside smoking a joint. But I did catch the NO CHEATING part.
DeleteTEXASMEL
I think the last time I reviewed something on amazon I had to state if I read/owned it.
Deletemlaiuppa12:50 PM,
DeleteIt's not that way anymore. Anyone can post a review now.
I thnk you inflate the integrity of "democrats." I'll agree that as a party, right now they are behaving better. But democrats have regularly stuffed ballot boxes, and pay off political cronies, lie, distort, etc. Democrats are made up of people just like Republicans. At the moment the crazy Repubs have found themselves in a place with power - sort of like the Mouse that Roared - but I have no doubt that some Democrats would do the same thing, and moderate Democrats would play politics just like moderate Repubs do.
ReplyDeleteYou really hurt your credibility making such blanket statements.
Oh go lie elsewhere.
DeleteYes, some Democrats do bad things. But you know all that voter fraud (IE ballot box stuffing) that people worry about? Every time it's happened, it's been someone on the Right.
When a Democrat gets hit with a scandal, they resign. When a Republican does, they lie, hide, win re-election and then brag.
The "both sides do it" claim is utter bullshit, and it's only ever used by the Right to try and make themselves look better.
Stuffing ballot boxes? You're talking about shit that went on more than a hundred years ago. Loser.
DeleteAnd Gryphen isn't talking about politicians...he's talking about losers like you, the hoi polloi who giddily cheat in order to make their loser heroes sell more books.
It sounds like you haven't been paying attention, 5:01.
DeleteNixon, Regan, Bush 1, Bush 2, not to mention a long string of ethically-devoid Republican representatives (Gingrich, etc). Show me when the modern incarnation of Democrats were ever behaving worse?
"But they do it, too!!" isn't any kind of defense, especially when "they" don't do it half as bad.
I don't believe the current Democrats are acting anywhere nears as badly as the Repubs as a party. But I've recently heard that Philadelphia is utterly corrupt. It's run by Dems. Doesn't make national news. The envirnment in Philadelphia is conducive to it.
DeleteI'm not saying the Dems are doing it now as badly as the Republs. I'm saying it's not because Dems are inherently more ethical and "good." We've done it in the past, and when the stars align, I believe the Democratic party will do it again.
I also have to wonder how Dems, as repesented on this blog, are any better than Repubs when questions and challenges are routinely met with hostility and blind allegiance to the Dems are Good, Repubs are Bad mantra. Or atheists are more logical, better, more ethical, than some other group with a religious identification.
I guess this group isn't about healthy debate, or questioning.
But they do it too was never meant to be a defense against anything except a blanket statement that Dems are better than Repubs. It doesn't justify anything. I wonder what you read to suggest that it justified something?
DeleteAnonymous5:01 AM <----Perfect example of RW kocksucking trolling. People L@@K! Learn.
DeleteSquash it.
"I'm saying it's not because Dems are inherently more ethical and "good." We've done it in the past, and when the stars align, I believe the Democratic party will do it again."
Delete----------------
Yes, I think that's true because power and the desire for it inevitably skews perspective. HOWEVER, I believe that most Republicans would deny or even care about that fact. Democrats, being largely liberal......as in, OPEN-MINDED, would be much more likely to concede this aspect of human nature and (I think) more likely to guard against it and take steps to correct it.
You are suggesting Democrats would be just as bad if "the stars were aligned." I offered up decades of republicans behaving much, much worse than Democrats. How far would the stars have to realign? What exactly would that look like?
DeleteI am also of a mind that politics is highly corrupt on both sides of the aisle. It's the nature of the business. I'm not saying there aren't a few honest politicians but face it, the personality profile that tends to be interested in running for public office tends towards the narcissistic end of the spectrum, as well it should because who else but a person who has high self esteem, love for self and great confidence would even step into the political arena to encounter all of the mudslinging and character assassination that comes with it? Often those who run for office do so for self and not for others, and often times do it to enrich themselves and prepare themselves for a future career as a lobbyist or as a private business person catering to the government with a sweet guarantee of government contracts due to their time spent "serving the public". The system is full of shysters on both sides, and the system is indeed broken.
DeleteBaby Raptor,
DeleteYou said: "When a Democrat gets hit with a scandal, they resign. When a Republican does, they lie, hide, win re-election and then brag"
A couple of examples to the contrary:
Bill Clinton, Charlie Rangel, Rod Blagojevich
There is also a long list of Democrats involved in malfeasance while in office that would not resign until forced to, Kwame Kilpatrick comes to mind.
Not meaning to bash you but truly there are a shitload of Dems that behave badly and often as not they do not go away quietly but have to be convinced to resign or be kicked out of office.
Regularly? Like, within the current century?
DeleteAlong the same lines are the fake "identities" who follow Sarah Palin, Mitt Romney and probably others on Twitter and I suspect on Facebook. Not that it's unreasonable that Palin would have 3 million followers but because I've clicked on several hundred of her followers and Romney followers on Twitter and see that they
ReplyDeletehave only 1 or 2 followers, only follow 1 or 2 people, have no tweets or only 1 or 2 tweets and have a profile that's at best strange, I have to assume that they are fake followers. The fakes are easy to identify especially on Twitter because they have the default avatar.
How else can the TeaParty /
Sock accounts. Fake accounts.
DeleteAll you have to do is click on any name of any person who posts a positive comment to Palin's Facebook page to view their profile. I have found that 1 of 9 or 10 is an account that is no longer "active". Over & over again. Same as people who troll that use a screen name that changes...over & over again.
DeleteSome do it for free! They're the real pathetic ones.
DeleteI apologize for not completing the last sentence. I intended to say How else can the TeaParty / Conservatives influence people unless they cheat?
ReplyDeleteI strongly suspect that TeaBaggers swamped the website of ACA to make sure that it failed. That statement can't be proven and so what if it could be proven. I just suspect that they mobilize on que to hit issues like Martin Bashir, Duck Dynasty and ACA.
ReplyDeleteI suspect the same thing
Deleteexactly right 5:39. The proof I've seen started with DWTS votes. The pee pond actually encouraged multiple voting and then gave instructions on how to scam for even more votes.
DeleteThe instigators knew what they were doing, you know they have done this before.

Yes the link was passed around so the dumbasses could DdOs it! Waiting until all these fuckers get arrested! I can't wait!

ReplyDeleteLibel! Libel! LIBELLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!
Delete(Does that sound about right?)
I miss being called a NAZI myself. LMAO!
DeleteI have always been suspicious of ratings online, but this makes me discredit the whole thing. Who has time for such ugliness unless one is paid to do it. Be sure to note his name and keep an eye on whose political campaign he lands on. The make sure this video follows him. Look for a book in about 10 years, "My Life as a TParty Troll: How self-loathing created a career"
ReplyDeleteIf you bother to read the reviews of Sarah's latest screed... compare the length and writing quality of the 5 star vs 1 star reviews. The clarity and depth of the 5 star reviews pretty much proves the "Pee Ponders" are out in force to jack up the books ratings.
ReplyDeleteThe book price is dropping...as I type this out there is only one listing on E-Bay for this book with an outstanding bid of .99¢ which includes free shipping. All other listings have no bids..... even a coveted autographed, scribbled "S Palin" (I think that is what it is supposed to read as) copy is sitting at $10.00 with no bids. Gee....I wonder if the Sara Pac could buy this back and then resell it for $60.00 as a fundraiser?
I suspect quite a few of those "special edition" ones that are "signed" were bought by smart people at the dollar store, scribbled in sharpie, and sold on ebay, along with Sarah's jet. The first two book tours, people made a KILLING (I hear), and turned around and donated to Act Blue. It's called "The American Way" and "living vibrantly"!
DeleteThere are so many Lou Sarah's out there.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many nasty liberals given passes because they're democrats out there.
DeleteYou ignore positive truths about your enemy and spread lies.
9:36 - You are not well.
DeleteOh, 9:36, this is your newest (tired, old) rant. It's really pathetic.
DeleteAnd your denial is sad.
DeleteSo, you're not a liberal? You are anti-choice, anti-immigrant, anti-women's rights, anti-gay rights, anti-universal health care? What else?
DeleteIf you have the time or the inclination to go on Amazon and downgrade "liberal" books just for the meanness, then you have way too much time on your hands. Also a lack of morals and intelligence. But, then again, the Republican mantra has always been: "If we can't beat 'em, we'll cheat 'em."
ReplyDeleteExactly the same reason for the voter suppression measures, gerrymandering, voting machine tampering and Supreme Court presidential selection.
DeleteThey can't win on policy and integrity so they cheat and steal the elections.
They are PAID to TROLL! You notice all the posters on Red State act like they are "self employed"? Well they are, AS TROLLS!
DeleteSaid someone who associates with people in the net who make a point to attack and lie about every republican, while ignoring similar things on the left.
DeleteLiberal hypocrisy is astounding.
You're obviously a devoted republican, 11:45, spending your time defending the honor of the men and women on your side of the aisle.
DeleteYour assignment, is to present a 5,000-word essay comparing the lies of republicans vs. democrats. If your thesis is that democrats are just as bad, prove it or shut the hell up. You can't just come here day after day and write, "but they do it, tooooo!" Or, rather, you can continue to write that, but everyone will make fun of you.
It wont last long. Look at Chris Cristie, he thinks he's clever enough hiding his nasty dirty tricks, but you can't hide a dead rat, eventually your neighbours will smell it too.
ReplyDelete"So literally 80% of the books I put a star on I don't read."
ReplyDeleteMore lies. I don't believe for a moment that he reads even one of the books that winds up with a one star rating.
And a measure of how dense these people are, is that savvy shoppers already dismiss the over-the-top 5 and 1 star reviews as likely fakes. Does this chucklehead really believe that the last few remaining tea party deadenders who still purchase The Screechy Wretch(tm)'s books care how many stars she gets?
Wow you said it, what we all were thinking...that libs play fair and cons don't. Libs think for themselves and cons practice all the FoxNews talking points. I tried to have a discussion with a neighbor here in MS this AM about Climate Change (he chose the subject) and all I got was the "wow it's really cold so there must not be any truth to Global Warming" chant. I suggested that extreme events are indeed a result of Climate Change. He talked about cyclical change in the "age of dinausaurs" and suggested that the book "Silent Spring" probably killed a lot of people because of the banning of deadly pesticides which cut down on crop growth which starved people around the world. I gave up trying to "speak logic" and wished him a good morning. There is no reasoning that will get through to these people. Whenever they suggest that I might be wrong I reply, "But what if I'm right?". Anyway, it looks like there will be a never ending battle between the libs and the cons. The libs are going to have to come to the battle with the same or better weapons because we are getting our butts kicked each time we try to play fair. (In the interest of full disclosure...I used to watch Fox News until I caught them in gross and intentional lies.)
ReplyDeleteIt is possible to have truly conservative values and be an intelligent, thoughtful, compassionate, and honest human being. My grandfather was one such person. But somewhere along the line the Republican party got co-opted by very rich, who seized on cultural issues to form the unholy alliance we all know and love (not). Old news; my point is that "libs" vs "cons" is quite a misnomer at this point. A true conservative would support separation of church and state, a woman's sovereignty over her own body, an individual's right to marry whomever they please, etc. What we have instead is a Republican party with increasingly deep theocratic roots (intertwined with deep roots of greed), and Democrats left to battle back. If we define conservative as upholding the intent and values of the Founding Fathers, which party deserves that label? Anyway, the point is that I don't think conservatives per se are beyond reason and logic. The problem is trying to reason with two distinct groups of people: the Masters of the Universe types who are blinded by greed, and the sort of small-minded and/or mentally-ll person who would embrace a theocracy with fervor precisely because it gives them easy answers so that they don't have to think. These "lib" vs "con" dialogs have exactly the same feel as the evolutionist vs creationist debates: one side just doesn't have a rational, reason-based belief system. And the other side keeps thinking they can get somewhere with reason.
Delete--mathgeek
That is exactly what is happening in our politics, too. The fake and swindle everywhere, and then they claim it on the 'progressives', or 'liberals', and then they impose the voter ID laws, which they know will only affect the very old or the younger, just old enough for voting, people, and the poor and most likely leaning 'democrat' ones. And they get away with it, even after being shown that there is NO voter fraud w/o the ID requirement (or, if there was any, it had actually been perpetrated by RETHUGS!
ReplyDeleteInteresting to watch the bully, Chris Christie! He was suppose to be an outstanding prosecutor and I'm sure is already playing w/the legal system to his advantage.
ReplyDeleteAmazing how many people are supposedly still in his corner. But, the press keeps coming out w/more and more stories about his evil ways. They reflect patterns of bad, bad behavior.
He has one huge ego and I think will end up resigning or being forced into doing so. We'll see. Trials and jail sentences? He reminds me of the mafia!
"Amazing how many people are supposedly still in his corner."
DeleteA headline from Fx News reads "Romney defends Christie handling of bridge controversy."
I guess Mittens figured that most of the victims of Christie's venal retribution effort were 47%-ers just driving into the city to apply for welfare benefits. So, perhaps, in a way, the deserved what they had to endure.
It's Jersey. They are proud of their big loud personalities, think Jersey Shore. Christie is just the big, over-the-top loudmouth that personifies a pretty large portion of the population and has that "Jersey Swagger" that the state is famous for. I think for a lot of folks this just made them love him more. Jersey is all about giving the big middle finger to folks they don't agree with and Christie sure did just that to his political opponent.
DeleteIsn't it interesting that the main stream media is really not letting go of the Christie thing, but with Sarah Palin they never followed up on a single scandal? Once in a while you would hear a minute or two about "Trooper Wooten" but never any real digging. Reverse Discrimination?
ReplyDeleteTEXASMEL
She's gets a pass because she's a woman.
DeleteChristie needs to wear a push up bra, lick his lips, and fake a pregnancy with a special needs baby. That's the Sarah Palin way!
DeleteThere's way more red meat on Palin, Unless someone can prove he's wearing a fat suit and actually looks like, oh I don't know, let's say Christian Bale.
DeleteSarah puts a sofa cushion and a corsage on and she's seven months pregnant. It boggles the mind.
That is exactly what liberals do. Shout "liar" when there are no lies. And attack a book even when it tells truths libs desperately wasn't to ignore.
ReplyDeleteYou do it with Obama as you ignore and rework HIS lies and mysterious past. How nothing about him is publicy disclosed, how his Harvard record was supposed to prove he could be President. NOTHING about him has been released. No grades, no papers, no PUBLICATIONS (if any exist). If I were accomplished academically, I would LOVE for my work to be read.
All you do is scream all things Palin, while conveniently ignoring things that undercut your opinions.
Hypocrisy.

There is not one mysterious thing about the President unless you are an illiterate dolt that can't read and can't think.
Everything about him regarding his fitness for the presidency has been publicly disclosed. Everything.
Drooling goobers like you not liking what has been revealed doesn't make those things untrue.
No other President has been required to produce his academic records. Why do you hold the President to that standard?
Everything he did since Harvard has proven that he performed excellently, learned a great deal, was held in high esteem by his peers, and and was and is eminently qualified to be President of the United States.
As soon as bigoted morons like you whine about the President's "mysterious" past, you show yourselves for the stupid, uneducated, racist, un-American jackasses that you so truly are.
You stupid dolt.
It's Rhode Island. This is a particular troll who is hopelessly devoted to Madam Palin, thinks Todd is a "hottie," and slavishly defends Bristol.
DeleteYeah, we know YOU aren't accomplished, academically.
The President doesn't have a "mysterious" past. He isn't a usurper or an outsider. He's a smart, hard-working man who was elected twice to our country's highest office.
Sarah Palin, on the other hand, has a lot of mystery in her past. A couple full-size, "full-term" baby boys. A square pregnancy, rapidly shifting breasts, numerous colleges to get one degree (maybe)...

And you don't acknowledge you do this.
It's a sad world.

DeleteWhat a sad story on the imprisoned reporter. I was just about to break into tears when I remembered this same thing happening at the hands of Sarah Palin at one of her book signings: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/11/14/sarah-palin-reporters-book-signing-locked_n_4277006.html
My advice to to you is to take some deep breaths, count to ten, fix a nice cup of tea, and curl up with Sarah Palins book "Good Tidings and Great Joy". Let your mind wander to the wonderful XMAS celebrations of the Palin's...or better yet.... send off a big check to the Sara PAC to uplift your spirits.
Remember the words of Dan Savage, "It gets better."
You've already been taken to task for this elsewhere. Joe Biden is a smart person who puts his foot in his mouth sometimes. Sarah Palin is a dumb person who doesn't know her ass from her elbow. Joe Biden schooled Paul Ryan in their debate like nobody's business. It's incredibly sexist for you to give Sarah Palin a pass just because she's a woman.
DeleteWell said, Anonymous 2:04.
DeleteThe reasons I let the trolls post on my blog are 1-It's entertaining and fun to play Whack-a-Troll, 2-the trolls show their stupidity, and 3-feeding the trolls makes them as fat as Chris Christie.
ReplyDeleteI think the BIG difference between what these guys are doing and the Palin Bogus Book Reviews is that the Palin book reviews were obviously bogus and funny and meant to be a joke.
ReplyDeleteAnyone reading them (OK, maybe not anyone) could tell they were making fun of Sarah.
To just go and say 5 stars, great book, etc. is disingenuous and a lie.
Kind of like the way all those Palin bots kept Bristol on DWTS long after she should have been off. And those wonderful "Christians" bragged about cheating the system and taught others how to cheat it as well.
Anyone with two functioning brain cells would instinctively know the five star reviews for any Palin's book is fake. None of them speak the way their ghostwriters write, their books bounce around more than Dolly Parton on a pogo stick, and everything they choose to write about has nothing to do with the subject of the chapter.
ReplyDeleteBut DOG forbid anyone gives her an honest poor review, the trolls come out in full force on Amazon with rainbows, skittles and high praise.
We know they do this = so it is a stupid tactic on their part. It makes them powerless because it doesn't influence us in the least.
ReplyDelete
