In my opinion it is how all girls should be raised, though I recognize that some may not agree.
Of course I am Daddy, and as the father my main concern was to keep her safe.
Keep her strong.
Empower her to stand up to adversity.
I did all of that.
However she is also smart, kind, and giving.
I think I may have helped with that as well. At least I hope so.

Well said Gryphen. Overcoming the patriarchy and male supremacists of this world is not an easy thing.
ReplyDeleteAll the religions "of the book", preach that women are 2nd class citizens, and evangelicals are among the worst of the offenders in that regard.
I never had daughters, but if I had, I would have taught them to be fiercely independent, proud, and accomplished in all the survival skills I have taught my sons.
I raised my daughter the same way and I am Mom.

ReplyDeleteI think you're an awesome dad Gryphen. Over and over and over again in my house it's all about "Girl Power." We like us our Disney Princess movies--the new ones. The ones where the girl saves the day and there's no 'Prince Charming' riding in on a white horse. Not that I am not teaching my daughter to appreciate men. More that I'm teaching my daughter she doesn't need a man to be awesome,powerful, beautiful, fulfilled. Yada, yada, yada. Thank you for the post!
