A blast from the past. Lewis Black's take on Creationism.

One of my favorite segments on the Daily Show is "Back in Black" and I don't think Lewis has ever been quite as on the mark as he was during this bit.

    O/T but great news!

    BACKLASH!

Shock waves are running through Arizona’s business community in response to the final passage of Senate Bill 1062. The measure is the state’s right-to-hate-and-discriminate law, aimed at the gay and lesbian community. In true Jim Crow fashion, it would allow any individual or business to refuse to serve anyone to whom they object. They only have to claim that doing so would violate their ‘religious convictions’. The state House passed its version on Thursday. The bill will be sent to Gov. Jan Brewer on Monday.

Protesters and businesses are united in urging governor to veto the law.

Hundreds of protesters gathered on Friday at the state capitol in Phoenix, as well as in Tucson, to demonstrate against SB 1062. At the Phoenix protest, an organizer announced that four businesses, once planning to locate in Arizona, had already signaled their intention to withdraw if the bill is signed into law. Each business would have employed at least 1,000 workers. Barry Broome, president of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC), confirmed that he had sent a letter to Gov. Brewer, stating:

With major events approaching in the coming year, including Super Bowl XLIX, Arizona will be the center of the world’s stage. This legislation has the potential of subjecting the Super Bowl, and major events surrounding it, to the threats of boycotts.

In addition to the concerns with the growing negative attention already being portrayed across both national and social media, we have already been contacted by four companies we are working on with the Arizona Commerce Authority who will look to locate elsewhere if this legislation is signed.

Broome further told the Arizona Daily Sun that he has been contacted by existing Arizona businesses who report that customers are dropping them because of SB 1062. He expressed the worry that’s on the minds of most of the state’s business owners:

This bill will be unbelievably damaging to the branding and the reputation of the state. It’s not an exaggeration.

The Ku Klux Klan once tried the same tactic.

He dismisses the idea that the law is needed to protect religious ‘freedom’ by saying:

Anyway, I'm trying to get this story out there to shed some real light on this institution. I sent it to MSNBC and specifically Rachel Maddow. I my send it to CNN as well. Feel free to share share share!!!

OT, check out sarah's cousin's band, madison rising, performing the national anthem at the daytona 500. The NASCAR crowd received it with comments such as "ridiculous" and other choice words. Pictures of the drivers snickering and rolling their eyes at Daily Mail. Bet sarah doesn't post this on her fb.

O/T but Why is a white supremacist getting air time on cable network shows? Can this man be any more vile? Truly sickening that people exist that think this way.

‘The only time a black life is validated is when a white man kills him.’

    THE SARAH PALIN SMACKDOWN

Sarah Palin, AKA "The Whore of Babylon", is nothing more than a domestic terrorist poisoning simple and feeble minded people resulting in violence!
A leader is held to higher standards. Using gun analogies and putting cross-hairs or bulls-eyes on people, knowing full well, your target audience (excuse the pun) is the ignorant and unstable, is irresponsible, dangerous, at the very least, poor judgment!
Palin is like a woman in quicksand; the more she runs her mouth the faster she sinks.
Palin abandoned the people of Alaska for fame and fortune. She screwed the people she vowed to serve. They trusted her to be their public servant and what they got instead was a fame whore!

when these charlatans speak they woo a particular audience that hates science --- the question i don't see the answer to is "why do some people hate science?"

i can see why religious leaders would poo poo science -- it is not in their best interests to have a congregation full of thoughtful and truth-seeking individuals.....but what does the congregation get out of it?

I had to pause and get tissues, I was laughing That hard! "Hurry up and get in the car, we may be able to sacrifice your sister at Hoover Dam",
Then I think of the poor kids being taught nonsense instead of science and it bums me out.

BTW I want one of those cutting edge casio watches, just to show my kids how rough I had it back in the day.
