A former Alaska judge claims he was the victim of "racist and sexist hazing" by his peers after former Governor Sarah Palin thanked him for his "pubic service" in his appointment letter. (Uh wait, what?)
Richard Postma Jr. claims the typo in Palin's letter caused him so much grief that he was voted out, had to return to private practice, and is struggling to hold onto his law license Bar.
Richard W. Postma Jr. sued Alaska Bars Counsel Stephen Van Goor and Assistant Bar Counsel Mark Woelber, in Federal Court.
"Plaintiff was a former state district judge in Anchorage who was appointed in 2007 by former Governor Sarah Palin," the 13-page lawsuit states.
"As a judge, he experienced racist and sexist hazing by certain judicial officers and court employees.
"The hazing started because of a typographical error in the judicial appointment letter where the Governor thanked the plaintiff for his years of 'pubic service,' instead of 'public service.'"
Postma claims in the complaint that his hazers went so far as to suggest he was appointed as a judge "by performing oral sex on former Governor Palin," and that it escalated "to suggest Postma was the biological father of Governor Palin's son, Trig Palin."
When he complained he was retaliated against, Postma says.
Postma claims that none of the jokes were true, but he suffered the harassment from his appointment in 2007 until 2010, when the Alaska Commission on Judicial Conduct "initiated an administrative action to remove Postma from the bench because of stress and medical problems caused by the hazing."
Okay have you ever had a situation where the smart ass comments are and juvenile one liners are so backed up in your brain that it renders you almost incapable of saying or writing a word?

However I will say this, while I knew the Palin curse was strong and something to be feared, even I did not know she could destroy a career simply though poor typing skills.

DeleteAlaskan judges are using the rumors about Sarah Palin (what they know that they aren't saying). This is a cautionary tale for future public officials and leaders. Clear up any rumors that judges and others will use and spend time talking, joking and hazing with said rumors if you don't clear them up.

DeleteHaving made my living by typing in pre-computer years, some words I always typed letter..by.letter, and proofread forwards and backwards. I worked for the military and for lawyers and typing mistakes were simply not tolerated. Poor guy.

What happened due to Palin is serious to Postma and anyone cares about how she handled state business. The rumors that the harassers refer are part of her baggage and why she needed to clear up matters about Trig Palin. Now she teases she could run and still she will not deal with the Trig effect in an honest and open manner. Any serious talking head or campaigner would clear false rumors.

It seems Sarah Palin wants her fans to think she goes to one of her children's basketball games. See SarahPAC Facebook. Does her 12 year old change schools often? Why? I heard she was settled in with the grandparents now. It is best for the child to have a stable life.
DeletePalin has been attending Piper's games. My neighbor's child is on the team and she sees her at games. This is the first winter that Palin has spent in AK in quite some time so I'd assume she's trying to make up to Piper for missing all of her games in years past.

This story makes no sense. I mean, of course, it's a Palin event, so understandably, there's weirdness to it.
ReplyDeleteFirst, why would a state district judge have to suffer verbal hazing from his peers? Were there no decent officials who could have stepped in to put a stop to it, on his behalf? Why didn't he ask the Governor's Office to correct the word error and issue an apology? What kind of court staff do they run up there in Alaska that a judicial official is harassed? Why didn't the AK administration keep employees disciplined?
What kind of ship is run up there? There seems to be absolutely no order of any kind. Of course all the answers are clear, everything that is run by a Palin has no order, class, integrity or remose, and a Palin is stuck on juvenile behavior and laugh off "sex jokes". No wonder AK's rape rate is so high.

DeleteThis shows what is on the minds of Judge Postma's peers. It demonstrates what is acceptable. It would be good to know why Postma didn't ask for a correction from the governor at the time. It was her job to find out who did what and to correct mistakes and apologize. It is totally strange that judges in Alaska have no overseers. They all seem like dumb little school children with no guidance or sense. Sarah Palin sure did run a corrupt administration and state.

Can't Postma sue her office for negligence and incompetency? The buck stops with Palin and her low standards did this man tremendous harm. It is not only Postma that she damages. Any problems that cost the taxpayers from this are the price of her poor leadership and inferior standards. Didn't she hire her old pals without decent experience and credentials for the job? Pay offs maybe and those who will do her bidding on cover ups and family matters. Britta Hanson comes to mind. I don't know who made this mistake but Sarah Palin's leadership (lack) style is at fault.

ReplyDeleteI'm not sure they qualify as sexist either despite their reference to sex. They are certainly in poor taste, but I still doubt doubt these jokes constituted the sole reason the unfortunate guy couldn't do his job.

Postma settles Alaska judicial lawsuit

Former Anchorage District Court Judge Richard Postma has decided to drop lawsuits against the state court system and others over his ouster by voters in the Nov. 2 election.
Postma contended the non-retention vote was directly related to discrimination and retaliation by court administrators and staff of the Alaska Judicial Council and Alaska Commission on Judicial Conduct, which accused him of violating ethics and conduct rules.
Postma's decision to abandon his legal challenges came as part of the conduct commission's case against him. A hearing in the case began Wednesday but Postma and the commission agreed to settle the matter. The settlement finds, in part, that "Postma's mental health difficulties incapacitated his ability to function appropriately as a judicial officer within the workplace with colleagues, peers and staff and seriously interfered with the performance of his duties."
"I couldn't win and I could only lose even more," Postma said in an interview Thursday morning. "Basically, I'm out of my job. If I win I'm still out of my job."

That's from someone who quit her job half way. I don't blame Judge Postma one bit. He probably put a lot of hard work and education in to become a judge, and his being "hazed" by other judges about an intimated sexual dalliance with Governor Wonk Eye Turkey Grinder is enough to offend any red blooded American male, regardless of race and excluding Glenn Rice 'cause she wrote him a check to make nice nice, and it cleared!
