Right Wing going through recently published correspondence between Hillary Clinton and her close friend looking for dirt. May find less to hurt her with, and more that supporters will find admirable.

So the Washington Free Beacon published these personal papers that belonged to Diane Blair, a political science professor, and now deceased close friend of Hillary's.

This caused the conservatives to start going over the correspondence with a fine tooth comb looking for something, ANYTHING, they could use as opposition research against Hillary in 2016.

The found a few exchanges that they have been able to characterize as "ruthless" but overall there is really not much "there" there.

One of the portions that I personally found rather interesting was when Hillary finally admitted that Bill had had and inappropriate relationship with Monica Lewinsky:

When Clinton finally admitted to the relationship after repeated denials, Hillary Clinton defended her husband in a phone call with Blair. She said her husband had made a mistake by fooling around with the “narcissistic loony toon” Lewinsky, but was driven to it in part by his political adversaries, the loneliness of the presidency, and her own failures as a wife.

She told Blair that the affair did not include sex “within any real meaning” of the term and noted President Clinton “tried to manage” Monica after they broke up but things spiraled “beyond control.”

Blair described the contents of the Sept. 9, 1998, phone call in a journal entry.

“[Hillary] is not trying to excuse [Bill Clinton]; it was a huge personal lapse. And she is not taking responsibility for it,” Blair wrote.

“But, she does say this to put his actions in context. Ever since he took office they’ve been going thru personal tragedy ([the death of] Vince [Foster], her dad, his mom) and immediately all the ugly forces started making up hateful things about them, pounding on them.”

“They adopted strategy, public strategy, of acting as tho it didn’t bother them; had to. [Hillary] didn’t realize toll it was taking on him,” Blair continued. “She thinks she was not smart enough, not sensitive enough, not free enough of her own concerns and struggles to realize the price he was paying.”

Now remember this is a private conversation between Hillary and one of her best friends. And yet rather than to rant about what a bastard her husband was, or what a whore Monica was, she takes some of the responsibility for not being there for her husband and identifies Lewinsky as a "narcissistic looney toon," which I think most of us would find fairly accurate.

Now I am personally not a fan of women excusing their husband's infidelities and accepting the blame, but this does speak to someone who did indeed love her husband, and someone whose instinct was to protect rather than condemn.

I have said before that I do not see Bill's actions hurting Hillary in 2016, but with this revelation it may serve as the perfect rejoinder to the conservative attacks if they choose to go this route.

The New Yorker profiled Hillary back in 1994, and I highly recommend folks go back and read it. She is an amazing woman, with just as much charm and substance as her husband. The other thing you learn from that article is that, even with all their troubles and all his faults, Hillary truly, deeply loves Bill. A lot.

Could care less if they are in 'love' in the classic and romantic sense of the term. They are still a partnership and supportive of each other. He's got her back in her potential run, what more could they ask for?

"just as much charm and substance as her husband".
Hmm! One cannot believe that you have read the Blair papers. On Page 17.
Here is Hillary's take on Bill,
"HC furious at BC ruining himself and the Precy. She keeps trying to shape things up,he knows whats wrong, but he can't fire people, exert discipline, punish leakers, throws tantrums, but when he does nothing he lowers their respect."
Blair continues "His inability to organize, make tough choices drives her nuts"
Surely a spouse knows their partner better than anyone else.

Considering the GOP/TP record, I don't think they have much room to talk, but that's always been their modus operandi:

Do as I say, not as I do.

Sarah should keep her dumb, 50-year old mouth shut. She and her husband have no room to scold anyone for cheating or worse.

    Private emails? UNREDACTED?

Unlike all the thousands of emails that Parnell and his toadies kept back from the public when Palin's archives were release

Many even of those had lines blacked out. I just wish that
when the college student logged in to her account he had the technical chops to *download* the entire account, instead of just
    screen shotting a few pages.

That could have solved the Palin problem right there. But that goes to his innocence as a prankster or a foolish kid, rather than an IT pro going after a target.

I see the conversation about her husband's "affair" to her friend as one who tries to see both sides, not excusing. I'm not so sure I'd be as diplomatic, but as a politician I admire her control. More than we've seen with some gop when they are asked simple questions by the media.

Why don't they also pull out Hillary's high school record? Her accomplishments really do outshine anything that might have happened in the past.

And Monica Lewinsky or any other dalliances of Bill Clinton should not reflect on Hillary Clinton! She's a good woman, an extremely intelligent and gifted woman and she's got the GOP scared to death. After 2008 maybe the GOP should have ended its "war on women" rather than try smearing a woman with her husband's old "dirt." Trying to sound like they care about women by attacking Hillary about Bill Clinton's past FOR NO REASON doesn't sound like good campaign policy for me. Nothing, nothing could ever persuade me to vote for a Republican.

I personally like Hillary's response concerning the transgression of her husband. I think they have a very strong marriage and relationship.

You mean she didn't go out and sleep with the first willing man she saw and throw it in Todd's face, I mean Bill? She didn't beat on him and scratch him and leave marks that people could see in Dillingham the next day? I mean, that's the klassy way Valley folks do it.

When the FULL facts of the Whitewater land deal scandal come to light at the end of Ken Starr's investigation (now proudly celebrating its 20th year in operation), this so-called Hilllary Clinton of yours couldn't get herself elected mayor of a little one donkey town like Wasil....

And if Jeb Bush runs, we can always remind everyone that his wife tried to smuggle $19,000 worth of designer clothes into the US. She claimed $500 in Customs and ended up with a $4,100 fine. Fair's fair.

  13. Hillary showed remarkable courage and grace the way she publicly handled the affair, partly for the sake of Chelsea. She was furious at Bill. The conservatives are desperate to be digging this up again. I think Hillary is too kind; but the Clintons were being pounded by Republicans that cared about nothing but getting him our of office.
The Clintons' dedication to higher causes is even greater for them than their marriage. They are true public servants, and have a lot of brains to go with their experience. If people start attacking HIllary again, there are going to be a lot of angry women fighting back. (and hopefully men, too)

I have always told my husband that cheating would be a deal breaker for me. But the older I get, I really wonder if it would be.
Would I really tell him to get out after 36 very good years? I can honestly say, I don't know. OH, don't think mine would get off easy, but I just really don't think it would be an automatic end to our relationship.
I can honestly say that over the years many opportunities have popped up for me( and I am sure they have for my husband) ad I have turned those feelings back into my sex life with him, but it would have been so easy to accept that instant gratification. Who knows< maybe my husband has acted on one of those moments, if so I haven't seen any affects on my marriage.
But no one else gets to make that decision for another married couple, how could I since I am not sure what I would do myself?

For all we know, Bill and Hillary had an agreement and the only problem Hillary had with it was that he made a stupid choice and his "cheating" was made public.

My husband and I understand that there won't be any sex with anyone but each other.

Who knows what Bill and Hillary's arrangement was or is. It's really none of our business.

I would add that had Hillary NOT made such comments, things would be much worse for her insofar as the right wing would depict her as apathetic, and worse, just as "morally bankrupt" has her philandering husband.

Gles, are you sure you got that right?

I'm almost positive the correct way to say it is that they never liked Hillary and despised Bill.

Wait. Maybe they hated Bill and only despised Hillary?

Or, possibly, they may have loathed Hillary while they abhorred Bill? Or maybe they hated Bill while abhorring Hillary and then for no apparent reason at all suddenly decided that it was Hillary they despised while Bill was merely loathed?

It's actually a very complicated topic that could fill a book. And the closer Hillary comes to running for president, the more of that kind of book the Right Wing Wehrmacht is going to start churning out!

      D'nesh "D'ouche' D'souza, I'm looking at you, dude!

  18. In a way, Bill's very stupidity in selectiveness semi-exonerates him, and makes Hillary's philosophical viewpoint all the stronger.

If this were a man who had no loyalty to his wife, who was truly on any hunt for a mistress, he surely would have a looked for an affair with someone of similar accomplishment and gravity to Hillary. Choosing a thong-flashing, poofy-haired, gum-snapping, empty-headed refugee from some bowling alley can only represent the most spontaneous bad judgment, not planning. On the most productive day of her life, Monica would still be no 'trade-up' from Hillary. Hillary seems to clearly understand that, and I believe enough thinking voters to send her into the White House do too.

Sure was a brilliant move for Hillary to have these papers released early. The RWNJ's will chew and regurgitate this cud, thinking it makes them look "smart" or in a better position to pounce on Hillary, should she decide to run. But it'll backfire big time. for the RWNJ's and the GOP.

What I admired most of how she handled the situation while in the fishbowl called the "White House", was that she stayed stoic and worked things out with her husband.

Just look at where they are 15 years later. Hillary's a force to be reckoned with, and what's Monica been up to? Yeah, her bff and confidante who advised her to save the stained dress, Linda Tripp, got some much needed plastic surgery. But what's Monica done of substance since then? Did the "narcissistic Looney Tunes" find another married man to stalk?
