Saw this on Facebook. So true.

Alaska is considered so remote that military members stationed here receive overseas pay.

When I was a kid we received television shows on a two week delay.

We had the sixties in the seventies, the seventies in the eighties, we skipped the eighties because they sucked, and then had the nineties a decade late.

Things were getting better for us until the first Alaskan snagged to run for the Vice Presidency damaged our reputation so badly that now the rest of the country thinks we are a bunch of Bible thumping, methamphetamine addicted, Tea Party dipshits.

    Alaska faces its 'resident evil'

Alaska is estimated to have the highest rape rate in the country

John Sutter talks with Alaska Gov. Sean Parnell

Parnell calls rape Alaska's "resident evil" and an "epidemic"

The governor's "Choose Respect" campaign aims to change that

Your last paragraph, I have NEVER thought of you, Gryph. Seen enough in my own life to call shit when I see it but sometimes we're fooled. Human. You're good to go, at least you and others are fighting so she doesn't ascend further, which she won't. She just an ankle-biting dog that didn't get her way.

I decided that I like AK better when I don't pay attention to our politics and I've decided to make my last few years here "politics-free" and just go back to enjoying our State for the natural beauty and lack of population.

I had to stop doing my 2 beers, 2 hours at the local bars because of the insane Obama bashing. I couldn't sit and take it without saying something, and the resulting abuse was not worth the effort to rebut. White people can get really ugly when they're in a crowd and drinking.

I wouldn't have minded losing the seventies and eighties. I've done a lot of travelling in my youth, and found Alaskans to be some of the nicest down to earth people We took a cruise for our honeymoon (wouldn't recommend it, they only show you what they want you to see... tourist traps and wildlife from a distance) . I think that's what shocked me when Palin got picked as running mate to maverick war hero millionaire John McCain. My first question was "WTF?" and my second was "Who is this moron and where did they find her?"

Inner Sea is a great small cruise line that does the inside passage. Less than 100 per boat and no touristy stuff, just nature.

Don't you love that commercial. Alaska has no service from any of the carriers. I noticed right away, leaving the impression that it's tin cans with string and roaming charges.
