Texas police respond to calls of man dressed as a banana carrying an AK-47. Man, even the fruit is armed in Texas!

Courtesy of 12 News:

Beaumont police were called to Eastex Freeway near Highway 105 Saturday morning by people complaining about a man dressed as a banana holding an AK-47.

Derek Poe, owner of Golden Triangle Tactical, told 12News Saturday that it was part of the store's grand opening after moving locations from Parkdale Mall.

Poe said the man in the banana suit was holding an AK-47 across his back with the barrel pointing down and holding a sign with an arrow pointing toward the store. He said this idea was to attract customers to the store.

The police also detained the 18 year old and cited him for violating a city ordinance that prohibits solicitation in and alongside roadways. They also filled out paperwork on the weapon and submitted it to the Jefferson County District Attorney's office where they will decide if further charges will be pursued concerning his public display of the AK-47.

By the way this store owner, Derek Poe, was also recently cited for openly carrying an AR-15 in a crowded mall:

On Dec. 28, Derek Poe stopped by GameStop in Parkdale Mall before going to the store he owns in the mall, Golden Triangle Tactical. While at GameStop, he was stopped by police officers and the AR-15 that was slung around his back was seized.

At the time Poe argued that he was only exercising his 2nd Amendment rights and should not be cited. However the police reported that  witnesses said that they were "terrified" and "thought they were going to die."

Which, if I may be so bold, is the appropriate response to seeing a moron walking around with an assault rifle strapped to his back.

I cannot believe these assholes think they are helping their cause by frightening mall shoppers and commuters on their way home from work.

If they keep this kind of thing up they may actually succeed in getting the 2nd Amendment thrown out, or at the very least amended again.

And therein lies the problem with the NRA logic of "the way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun".

    Sheesh

OT, but how come no FB post from Sarah praising her loving family for honoring her with scads of presents, guns, skidoos, and rifles for her big birthday? Not to mention a batch of Piper's famous cupcakes. I want to see the photo of Willow shoving birthday cake in Sarah's face...

  5. Another day, another baby shot in America. This is such a common occurrence anymore why does it even get reported?

Could it be a big deal is being made because the parents are Christian and this is an example of religious persecution??
If Jesus had a gun things would have been different....

Do you run and hide every time you see a cop with a gun?

You might as well ask if we run and hide whenever we see a banana. It makes as much sense as the question you did ask.

Listen here, Gryphen, if that is indeed your real name, which I seriously doubt! You should spend a little less time crafting your snarky wisecracks and a little more time reading your Bible and/or Constitution!

The Supreme Court has unequivocally affirmed that corporations are people and have all the god-given rights that American citizens have including the unrestricted Right To Bare Arms!!!

Even YOU and your little librul blog buddies are smart enough to realize that if Apple, Inc and Lululemon can legally carry an AK-47, it's simple tea party logic to conclude that bananas (and in Texas, avocados) can legally carry weapons, also, too!

So, stop telling socialist lies and GROW UP!!!

I'm starting to think these idiots really have death wishes.
These 2nd Amendment nuts do not have eyes in the back of their heads. One day this guy will be walking to his store armed and he's going to be shot in the back by someone as freaked out as he is about the world.

That Youtube 2nd Amendment guy with about a thousand guns in his house didn't see it coming as he sat in his home office. Remember the woman who insisted on open carry at her kid's soccer matches? Did she see her armed husband before he shot her dead? The sniper guy didn't see it before the guy with PTSD took him out at a gun range.

With all the mall shootings, school shootings, theater shootings, accidental shootings and everyday nuts popping off at anyone who looks at them wrong and the like; do these idiots really think the American public will get used to armed men with assault weapons walking through Old Navy? Morons.

This guy's lucky another armed citizen didn't shoot him. People can't be too careful and that guy looks like a nutcase who could open fire at any moment.

How does a 18 year old (or even younger) kid get to be a business owner? Daddy's money?

Also, what's the legal age for carrying a firearm in Texas?
What's the legal age for selling firearms in Texas?

This kid's business was not a new one -- it was just moved from another location. It all sounds fishy.

    1. Hey Sarge pay attention.

The kid in the banana suit was 18, NOT the store owner.

They always get the instructions wrong. The illiterate bastard was supposed to dress as an AK47 and carry a banana. Of course, the NRA will argue that the only thing that can stop a bad banana with a gun is a good banana with a gun.

Wanna attract more attention? Pay some REAL money and get decent banana costumes. I've never seen a more pathetically flaccid banana in all my life.
