Courtesy of Wendy Davis for Governor:
Dear Friend,
As our campaign has gained momentum, our opponents have gotten more and more desperate. But now they’ve stooped to a new low by attacking my family, my education, and my personal story – playing politics with the journey that has been my life.
Mine is a story about a teenage single mother who struggled to keep her young family afloat. It’s a story about a young woman who was given a precious opportunity to work her way up in the world. It’s a story about resiliency, and sacrifice, and perseverance.
And you’re damn right it’s a true story.
Throughout this campaign, I’ve shared that story – not because it’s unique, but because it isn’t.
The story of my life is also the story of millions of single mothers who feel alone in the world, millions of young dreamers searching for their chance to become something more than what they were born into, millions of families all across Texas who would sacrifice everything to give their children a better future.
It’s those stories – your stories – that drive my campaign. But Greg Abbott and his allies don’t want to hear them. They don’t have anything to offer Texans who find themselves in the same difficult situation I was in when I was young. They would slam the doors I walked through and pull up the ladders I was lucky to be able to climb.
And now, instead of offering real ideas to improve your life, they’re attacking mine.
It won’t work. The only thing Greg Abbott and his allies have proved with these desperate attacks is that they don’t understand what it means to live a life like mine – a life like that of so many people all across our state.
They don’t know me – and, what’s more important, they don’t know you.
I’m not surprised that the Abbott campaign would resort to attacking the story of a single mother who worked hard to get ahead.
And I’m not afraid of their false attacks – I developed thick skin long before anyone knew my name.
What I am is deeply proud of the life I’ve built and the daughters I’ve raised – and deeply grateful to the many, many people who have shared their stories and offered their support as I’ve traveled our state.
No false attack can take away my story. And no sleazy political trick will stop me from giving voice to yours.
Your stories are why I’m running for Governor. And together, I know we’ll make sure that the Texas we leave to our children is a place where every young mother can build a better life for her child. . . where every family can work their way up the economic ladder. . . where every Texan can achieve their dreams and live out their own success story.
Wendy
Okay that got pretty patently political toward the end there, and I think it is smart to talk about how similar HER story is to the story of many young women who have struggled to raise their families through difficult times.
I mean if there were ever a universal story it would be that one.
I have to say that I really think this is a great opportunity to Texas to knock the cow shit off their boots and amble on over to the 21st century.
Just think they now have the opportunity to step away from the gun toting, shit kicking, image of a Rick Perry, to the improving education, improving women's health choices, and improving the overall reputation of Texas image of Wendy Davis.
I have said it before, and I can't believe I am saying it again, but I am jealous of the Lone Star state.
And believe me that NEVER happens.
Totally O/T: It's legal to set up a shooting range in your backyard in Florida. What could go wrong?

When your neighbor shoots back and kills you, can he claim SYG?
DeleteGood question, Sally.
DeleteGood letter, but some words of caution though:
ReplyDelete-- Now that those daughters have weighed in and Wendy says how proud she is of them, you just know that the RWNJ are going to dig into their past and try to smear them as well -- and Wendy by association that she didn't do a good job raising them and well made a federal case out of every little dumb thing that kids do.
--I hope she wins, but with a faming red super majority RWJ legislature how much will she really be able to do.
--As you have said Gryphen, she needs to stop responding to irrelevant people like Bristol Palin and giving her barbs any more attention that they are due.
Which is NONE. Who gives a shit what the Palins think?
DeleteUh, newsflash, she didn't respond to Bristol. She politely responded to a reporter's question when she was being interviewed on his show. She responded politely and with class just as she should have. It would have been rude to address it any other way or to refuse to respond.
Delete12:30 PM Well said and oh so true.
Delete@12:30
DeleteWell-stated and I agree completely. It will mean nothing to the poutraging echo-chamber sycophants, but if there are voters that care to be informed of the truth about Davis in light of the huge squirmage created by the idiots that deal in lies, smears, and hyperbole, this speaks well of Davis and her ability to fight against the crazies without losing her dignity or her focus on the goal at hand.
The odds of her being elected to this term as Gov of TX were always slim, but considering the freakout by the idiots in the Bagger RW, Wendy Davis is scaring the shit out of those people, as they see power slipping through their cold, dying hands. These Texas Baggers, whose fear, cowardice and misogyny drives their behavior, might as well make their stand at the Alamo, since the end result will be similar, albeit a slower process in a less noble cause than Travis & Bowie fought against Santa Anna's troops.
A cause led by losers Rush Limbaugh, Sarah & Mini-Me, Erick Erickson, and other various screeching sycophants is entertaining to watch and ridicule, but its days are numbered. Other than the state legislators from out in the sticks, the greater Austin area is a prime example of a progressive, educated population that Texas can become over time.
Her story is just about every woman's story. What Mom hasn't struggled either to stretch that dollar, cloth their children, SHM's struggling one the Dads paycheck because they believe in staying home if possible, other Moms struggling while under employed to give their children every advantage they can, single Moms, many times carrying all of the burdens....I doubt you will find a good Mom anywhere that can't relate to Wendy's story. It is also the story of every Dad, trying hard to provide, maybe under employed, maybe stuck in that job that requires 12 hr days and do for their children yet trying to spend time, those that can get by and try and be the stay at home parent struggling.
ReplyDeleteWendy's story isn't just that of every Mom , it is also the story of every good parent. If someone can't relate then they either aren't a parent or are crappy parents.
DeleteWhat mom hasn't struggled? I'm guessing the answer is Ann Romney.
Delete
DeleteAnne's struggling now to accept that, even though she and her Mitty are richer than almost anyone, she and her ilk ain't "all that and a bag of chips" to Americans.
Bless their hearts.
Wendy in one word : humble - ok two words : humble and gracious
ReplyDeletetwo qualities of many that the inbred crosseyed skank, that is palin, will never achieve
Fuck Bristol Palin who is so fucking dumb she can't even go to college with all the money she had and with a multimillionaire mother and pimp father.
ReplyDeleteWell, to be fair, the girl would have needed a diploma to even get into Community College, where her mother started. Plus, one needs to have goals other than naming a baby daddy to even start college.
DeleteGood God!
ReplyDeleteWendy Davis!
Kicking ass and taking names.
You Libs, wringing your hands and trembling in your shoes. do not deserve her.
11:53.
DeleteYou don't.
Can I be any plainer?
?!? Ditto to Anonymous.
DeleteCan you be any plainer? Weeell. Guess I missed it also!! Your last line that is. Are you saying we are worry warts? If so - I get that - if not I don't know what you meant.
Pat Padrnos
Well excuse us for wanting to run a sane, polite, civil campaign rather than resort to mudslinging and lies. Oh, I forgot..the right has no idea HOW to be truthful and civil any more, do you?
DeleteApparently you aren't from Texas, Wendy IS kicking ass and has gained huge support. BTW Texas gets more liberal every year and none of us Texan Liberals wring our hands nor tremble, we rock our Justin's and support who we damned well please. Now run along Bristol and check your crotch for another Abstinence baby.
Delete@11:46 AM Did you stay up all night to print that nonsense? You Trolls have NO LIFE. Maybe Bristol and Willow will tell you their secrets to Sealing Health Records and Hiding Babies. Track Menard will tell you where to buy Drugs, Sarah will tell you what time is best to hang out at the Mugshot Saloon, and Todd will recruit your daughters for his Sex Trafficking Rings.
DeleteNow THIS is a new approach and one that we must discourage, all the way around.
ReplyDeletehttp://freakoutnation.com/2014/02/01/this-republican-plans-to-run-for-congress-in-4-different-states/
Believe me 11:46, trembling and shaking is the last thing Libs in Texas are doing. Dream on Sunshine.
ReplyDeleteTEXASMEL
Yep, we are turning the state bluer and bluer all the time. :)

Is anyone else starting to dream of back to back female presidents...?
ReplyDeleteback to back to back >>> clinton, warren, davis >>> i like that, got a nice ring to it, eh
DeleteI think this letter is excellent. Ms. Davis is a terrific writer. Yes, it gets a little political, but that's appropriate; she is, after all, running a political campaign. She didn't specifically ask for money, but I'm definitely motivated to contribute to her. Go Wendy!
ReplyDeleteAt first, I thought she was going a bit too far, but as I kept reading, it wasn't about her story, it was about every woman's story and the families they raised under difficult circumstances. I really wish I could vote for her, but instead I'll contribute what I can and hope MORE WOMEN like Wendy run for office.
ReplyDeleteShe's not backing down and not giving an inch.
She claims to have struggled and worked her way up, but she didn't. She married money. That's fine. I don't care. Teenage mom at 21 ... whatever. She struggled to adapt school and home in different parts of the country...but she wasn't the primary caregiver...he was. They, as a family, decided that he should have custody-fine. Then she wasn't a single mom.
DeleteIs there really a question as to why some think conspiracy, when every word spoken means something other than the traditional meaning, yet the liberal followers don't care?!? You invite it because of half truths, and blind devotion.
6:51 PM You must be a Palin with your Blind Devotion to untruths.
DeleteYou're absolutely correct, 9:01. Looks like a copy and paste job from brietbart. Because. you know, no woman could possibly make it on their own without a man.
DeleteWould be nice if she was a teenage mom, when she had her baby at 21. Would be nice if she said she married into money, and didn't HAVE to work 2 or jobs...oh, wait...she didn't!
ReplyDeleteOnly problem is that she LIED, and misrepresented the facts.
Stop whining, Sarah.
DeleteAnonymous 6:35 PM Did she blame her Pregnancy on Wine Coolers and a Tent? Did her Mother Fake a Pregnancy to cover for her? Did she try to buy Trial Daddies for her kids? Did she have her Health Records Sealed by her Mother? The LIAR is Bristol and her Promiscuous Mother, Sarah Palin. When did Bristol or Willow get married? Why do all of their kids have the Palin Surname?
DeleteSo, since she not as bad as your nemesis, the PALINS, she OK, since she has a D behind her name.
DeleteI don't judge other people based on how bad some nut job is. I base my opinion and support on how they act-in and of-themselves!
She misrepresented herself, and her facts. I wouldn't care about ANY of her history, if she wouldn't have tried to make it something other than what it is.
Try real hard and read her letter and those of her daughters. It's not a matter of having a letter behind one's name, it's where one ends up in life and why (Aka "Living Vibrantly" and "Graduating Harvard"
DeleteI have read both. Your liberal bias is showing, again. It DOES matter HOW they got there, and I see nothing wrong in how and what she did to get where she is.
DeleteI have a problem, however, that she LIED about how she got to where she is, now. She ABSOLUTELY misrepresented herself!
I don't care what the Palin's have done, my life doesn't revolve around them!
I cannot support someone who so blatantly misrepresents herself as Wendy Davis has. She is NOT a single mother. She was for a short time, but she didn't pull herself up by her bootstraps, as she asserted. She married into it. Nothing wrong with the act, just with the misrepresentation of it.
