I am almost embarrassed to admit that I was virtually unaware of the many talents of the great Stephen Fry before seeing him in "V for Vendetta."
I loved that film and loved his character in it.
Since then I have learned a great deal about his vast body of work, and even follow him on Twitter.
This video is exceedingly well done and explains exactly why testing theories against evidence is the only true pathway to truth.
I only saw Vendetta once, but I couldn’t see how little Natalie Portman got the dead weight of Stephen Fry into that train. Gotta suspend disbelief, I guess. I did like it.
ReplyDeleteDid you hear how we nearly lost him to a suicide attempt a few years ago? Depression sucks.
ReplyDeleteIt does. Another thing to love about Stephen Fry is that he talks openly about it.
DeleteI have always liked and respected Stephen Fry.
ReplyDeleteBeaglemom
He played Melchett and The Duke of Wellington in Blackadder and has been wonderful in so many other things as well.
ReplyDeleteI first saw him when he starred with Hugh Laurie in
Deletethe British comedy-drama series, "Jeeves and Wooster" which was adapted by Clive Exton from P.G. Wodehouse's "Jeeves" stories. Loved that show!
I was hoping for MORE from this...something I didn't know before.
ReplyDeleteHowever, with the wave of absurdity drowning the nation (that science is all some sort of "plot") even a message this basic is obviously one that is highly necessary to get out to the masses.
I saw a Facebook posting today, quoting JFK as having said, only a week before his assassination, something about a plot to enslave each and every American, and how he planned on exposing it before his Presidency was over--and have since wanted to see something to help determine what exactly he meant.
All I can do for now, then, is guess that it had to do with the corporate takeover of the world, which has slowly reduced us all to beggars.
Good Stuff! I laughed while perusing his body of work, he had something to do with "MR Toad's Wild Ride" hmmmm....
ReplyDeleteI'll have to re watch "V", but he was involved in a lot of great comedy. A fish Called Wanda, Monty Python, etc.
Don't overlook this profound and oh-so-witty tweet from Fry:
ReplyDelete"Mary had a little lamb
It's fleece was white as snow
All you religious dicks
Just fuck off and go.
No more discussion with dickheads. Sorry"
This comment, along with others suggesting misogyny and insensitivity to various sexual orientations, have resulted in the popular expression "back-pedaling like Stephen Fry on Twitter."
Fry is described in the National Dictionary of Celebrity as a stupid person's idea of what an intelligent person is like. I read this on the blog of journalist Peter Hitchens (brother of the late Christopher Hitchens) whose view of Fry is probably more penetrating than popular impressions of the comic.
