Morality is not determined by the church you attend nor the faith you embrace. It is determined by the quality of your character and the positive impact you have on those you meet along your journey
I learned it that way, back in the day. Of course, back in that day, I listened to our public school Principal reading a Bible verse out loud every morning too. We lost that, and gained "Under God?" This 'exceptional' country can be really screwed up. And the GOP evangelicals are holding the screwdriver.
Yeah, good G finding that! The thing that pisses me off to NO END... is when POTUS HAS to say at the end of (Practically every speech) "And god bless the United states of america" But he doesn't say WHICH GOD? Shiva? Kali-ma? Mohammad? The Thunderbeings? What? It is so fucking Retarded that he has to say that. And since we are on this gripe.... When a loved one passes: "God wouldn't give you anything you couldn't handle" is the last fucking thing you want to hear. Or "Their in a better place"???? How about "I'm sorry for your loss" and leave god out of it! Unless they mean the god DOG. :) That's ok! (Remember in "Saving Grace", Earl would always be with the dog? The dog was god) I loved that!
I work at a school in Michigan and have to listen to it every morning over the load speaker, before each sporting event, and every board meeting.
I dont think ppl realize it is actually state law. http://www.legislature.mi.gov/(S(jc03nbu3m1achdece32jpwme))/mileg.aspx?page=GetObject&objectname=mcl-380-1347a
And yes, Under God is part of it. http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/4/4
I spent part of my childhood in Nebraska from 1968-72. They were so old school even then that we recited the old version. It wasn't til I moved to a west coast state that I even realized we were "supposed" to say "under god."
To this day, I refuse to add those words. We are "one nation, indivisible."
Blind allegiance to ANYTHING.........is WRONG.....PERIOD.
ReplyDeleteAmen! (Sorry, I couldn't resist!) :-D

One of my pet peeves as well. The strangest one was from a friend, who, when she found out I'm a non believer asked.
Delete"Then what am I supposed to say when you sneeze?" I knew what she meant, but I couldn't help but chuckle.
He's not mentioned in a pledge? He's not in our schools? He's not opening every public ceremony? Then. . .going by their logic, there is no God?
ReplyDeleteAnd this is Kansas. God's Country!
ReplyDeleteI think Congress added "under God" during the Eisenhower years at the height of the cold war against "godless" Russia.
ReplyDeleteYup. You're right. It was added during the Cold War in the 1950's.
