Pelley's 19 Positive Q Score, which measures likeability, helped him just beat the No. 2 guy, CNN's Anderson Cooper, who had an 18. Cooper's 56 Recognizability score places him among the highest on this list.
“Hardball” host Chris Matthews struck out with the lowest likeability score of all.
To create Q Scores, executive vice president Henry Schafer and his team provides a personality's name and a brief description to more than 1,800 viewers. The viewers are asked if they recognize the person, and how they feel about him or her.
Compared to other TV personalities — from late-night hosts to morning hosts — newscasters tend to be less recognizable and less liked.
While I am gratified to see that Rachel Maddow, Tamron Hall, and Thomas Roberts from MSNBC all placed higher than anybody from Fox I am very displeased to see Lara Logan at number three.
Didn't anybody see her disastrous Benghazi debacle?
I think her entire likeability factor is based on the fact that horny men are fantasizing about having sex with her. Buncha pigs!
And as much as I want to come to the defense of my MSNBC brothers and sisters I simply CANNOT disagree with placing tweety at the bottom of the pile.
The man simply cannot stop interrupting his guests and making stupid comments.
Matthews has done some great reporting, and was called out a number of politicians on their crap, but he is incredibly hard to watch sometimes. Though I would still watch him over Bill O'Reilly or Sean Hannity ANY day.
Actually if you are looking for the most annoying MSNBC host, that honor should go to Ronan Farrow. I am not even exaggerating that he is the only MSNBC personality who has irritated me enough that I have switched to Fox News instead. True story.
I find The Cycle on MSNBC as annoying as Ronan Farrow.
ReplyDeleteI love Chris M. But I find this survey confusing b/c they lumped news and hosts together.
ReplyDeleteI agree with "Anonymous 5:15 AM". If Matthews is included, where is "All In with Chris Hayes"? I sincerely hate Matthews interview style. Why does he even have guests? He seems only to want to present his views. I know what his views are and I want to listen to what his guests have to say. Is he such a powerful figure that no one will refuse to come on his show because of his constant interrupting. I have tweeted to his account several times to "stop interrupting his guests". Guess he still has loyal viewership. My husband watches and I go into our office and "play" on my computer till Chris's screaming hour is over.
ReplyDeleteGra^ma, I agree: Matthews is impatient and not interested in listening to the opinions/advice of others. He does have credentials, but he has devolved into the "grumpy old man on the porch" who just wants to hear himself impart the somewhat dubious wisdoms of his time, as in "Oh, in my day..."
DeleteNot buying it, having lived through the trials and tribulations of almost three-quarters of a century!
Signing myself as "fromthediagonal", I see "Life Today" from a realization of experiences of different national, political and philosophical realities
and I try to do better.
Yes, where is Chris Hayes' All In?
As for Mr. Farrow, may he grow. I think he is a Kid for Tomorrow who has brains beyond his years.
Discounting the name recognition, I think he will be able to carry his own.
In the early appearances on The Rachel Maddows Show, Chris Hayes was a "Jack in the Box". Coaching has eased those mannerisms, though his hands still tend to fly with excitement.
Glad to see that "Morning Joe" is not mentioned. Neither he nor Ms. Mika belong on a progressive channel.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
Matthews is known in our house as "the man who shouts."
ReplyDeleteI am amazed at the low positive for Alex Wagner. I love her. She's the only person, imo, who has real conversations with her guests, in the sense that, while she is well prepared, she is also knowledgable and relaxed enough to be spontaneous. I used to pause in my day and have a cup of tea with Martin. Alex, now in the same time slot, has put my afternoon tea ritual back to rights.
Happy to see Scott Pelley up there. I have known him since his days in Texas.
Yeah I like Alex too. She is one of my favorites.
DeleteI also like Chris Hayes and Steve Kornacki among the new crop.
I do not listen to Al Sharpton or Ed Schultz anymore, they just get on my nerves these days.
My go to MSNBC host is Rachel, and I am perfectly fine with getting almost all of my cable news from her.
I agree about Chris and Steve. I take it as a given, Rachel is the best.
DeleteYessir! I totally agree! The "old guard" will not attract the youth we need to inform in order for them to carry us forward! GoKidsGo!
DeleteWhere is "zero personality" Wolf Blitzer? He could report his own mother being killed by crazed zombies, without showing any emotion... just a blank look on his face.
ReplyDeleteWhy is Alex Wagner rated so low. I expected there were more men with "yellow fever" that would have bumped her up the list.
That last part is a pretty obnoxious observation.
DeleteThanks KaJo!
DeleteAnon@6:11... if your comment about "yellow fever" was meant to be funny, you are denigrating men as well as any and all of us who may fall into the "thinking" category of humanity.
I have only been able to hear Ronan on SirisXM. The days I listened he was fine. What don't you like about him?
ReplyDeleteEverything.
DeleteRonan and Abby Huntsman would not be on TV if they had different parents ... they are both terrible.
DeleteThey do have parents with enough clout to get them a turn on DWTS also.
Abby Huntsman was once a lot more bearable for a liberal watcher than S.E. Cupp was.
DeleteBut I think we're seeing that the Huntsman honeymoon period is over (where she sounds reasonable and moderate for a Republican), and lately we've been seeing the true "Young Republican" neocon POV emerging.
Ronan has 0 personality and is so slow speaking that I about fall asleep during his show. I gave it a chance but have quit watching.
DeleteAgree with KaJo on Abby Huntsman. I do wonder if the producers suggested she become more right wing as a balance like S.E. was. She has been getting on my last nerve lately. She'll probably eventually end up on FOX.
Surprised Alex Wagner was so low on the list. I like her. I almost feel sorry for Chris Matthews - he's been around a long time and has a lot of history and knowledge that he brings to his show. But, he does interrupt or talk on top of his guests after asking them a question, which drives me nuts. Think he has a good soul though! Love, love, love Rachel Maddow!!! She should have been higher on the list.
ReplyDeleteSadly, I agree about Chris Matthews interrupting his guests -- and spitting while doing it! Aaargh! Cannot stand Ronan Farrow. Setting aside the fact that I believe he and his mother orchestrated this latest Woody Allen controversy and this tease about Frank Sinatra to coincide with his debut, he is simply unwatchable. I can't stand his unblinking eyes, his awkward delivery, his amateurishness. I don't care how much education he has, or how handsome people think he is, or how many jobs he got handed to him because he was taken under the wing of Richard Holbrooke who was a good friend of Mia's -- none of that makes him a good host. I can't stand him. Unwatchable. I hope his show fizzles soon.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. I cannot even watch more than a few seconds of a Ronan Farrow video on MSNBC.com, if his video is in the queue.
DeleteI wish Anderson Cooper would let loose more often (or be let loose). He has it in him to hold someone's foot to the fire. Why hasn't he really gone after Palin or any of these other Tea Party/Republican freaks?
ReplyDeleteI've watched Anderson Cooper off and on and now I'm viewing him less. I think he's better for 60 Minutes vs his day-to-day reporting on CNN. Seems as though he's adding little news in that there is already ample coverage on the lost airplane! The coverage is old and the constant announcement of 'breaking news' is way over the top! It's boring and providing nothing to the current ,repeated commentary! I have totally tuned it out.
Deleteronan farrow is like luke russert, not ready for primetime & hasn't paid his dues. where are greta & hannity on that list since there's both hosts and newscasters?
ReplyDeleteRight. As the Guardian put it -
Delete....while the host bravely projected enthusiasm right through to the end, it was clear from the start that something was really wrong. It was like seeing the neighbor’s cute kid pushed into a talent recital for which he was not quite prepared.

I continue to like and support Chris Matthews; he is knowledgeable and fair, and I think he interrupts less than he used to. It is because he is so passionate that he has a hard time containing himself. I agree with an earlier post that Al Sharpton and Ed Schultz are annoying; I am as liberal as they come, but their obvious bias makes them hard to take seriously. Rachel Maddow is phenomenal in her ability to organize and present the facts, and she must have a crack research team to keep her so well armed with information. Chris Hayes is also well worth watching. I watch much less news than I used to, because it's usually so depressing, but, at least with those three, I feel I learn something.
ReplyDeleteI don't like Chris Matthews interruptions. Have quit watching Ed Schultz and Rev. Al because they both irritate me. Andrea Mitchell's stumbling, hesitant delivery is the worst. Most of the time, it seems her mind only works about 3 or 4 words at a time without a reboot. It's like she hasn't thought through what she wants to say or which direction to go in although at other times, her words flow fairly easy.
ReplyDeleteI don't watch Andrea Mitchell either...her way makes me nervous and I'm not sure why? I like Rev Al - he has a long history of being an activist and has always been in the thick of things. He has history - MLK days, marches, civil rights.
DeleteAgree on Ronan Farrow but NOTHING and NO ONE can get me to switch to Fox, the video clips outing and rebutting them are more than enough.
ReplyDeleteStill watch Chris Matthews but always on DVR so I can fast fwd thru when his overtalking and spitting goes manic. Rachel, Lawrence and Alex Wagner keep me tethered there but still miss Martin Bashir. Medium warm on Chris Hayes but feel he is maturing.
Man, I still miss Olbermann!
DeleteM from MD
YUP, and Martin is sorely missed too.
Deletedowl
I like Scott Pelley. And I'm glad to see Anderson Cooper, Brian Williams and Rachel Maddow in the top ten. But where is my absolute favorite Bill Moyers?
ReplyDeleteJennifer K
Watch Jeopardy faithfully........followed by "Let Me Finish".....I like him......in small doses.....
ReplyDeleteRachel Maddow should be the worst
ReplyDeleteI always wear a raincoat whenever his show comes on, just in case of a spittle storm.
ReplyDeleteOf course, conservatives who tout this survey conveniently ignore the fact that Rachel Maddow scored higher than everyone on FOX News!
I never liked Chris Matthew's style, though he was less brash and interrupting on his regular television gig and you could understand the guest's arguments. Rachel's my all time favorite. I wish they'd break "The Cycle" and spin off a new show without the Abby Huntsman role. Ronan is like a tomato without salt, doubt he'd have the gig without his mom's PR. Personally, I don't care if his father was Frank Sinatra or anyone else, he's just boring.;
ReplyDeleteThe newer shows that I love are Alex Wagner and the Reid Report. LOD is the best and I tape Melissa Harris Perry. I like her show, but it moves way too slow. On DVR, you can Fast forward and rewind. Thomas Roberts and Chris Hayes deserve more credit.
