Smith and Wesson gun sales down dramatically. Finally some good news about guns.

Courtesy of Business Insider:

Gunmaker Smith & Wesson is down big after last night saying its sales in the upcoming year will decline.

In morning trade, shares are down nearly 10%.

For its fiscal year 2015, the company said sales are expected to be between $585 million and $600 million. Analysts were expecting sales of more than $620 million.

At first I thought perhaps this was because Smith and Wesson did not make military style weapons, because you know I don't really know much about gun manufacturing.

Smith and Wesson's M&P 10

But as it turns out they do, so that cannot be the reason.

So hey maybe people are starting to recognize that owning guns rarely keeps people safe, but instead significantly contributes to accidental deaths and suicides?

That would seem to the be case laid out by a CNN report from 2012, where it was determined that there are fewer gun owners, yet they tend to own numerous guns:

A decreasing number of American gun owners own two-thirds of the nation's guns and as many as one-third of the guns on the planet -- even though they account for less than 1% of the world's population, according to a CNN analysis of gun ownership data.

Which kind of makes me wonder if these recent Open Carry protests are contributing to the diminishing number of Americans interested in owning weapons since gun owners are increasingly seen as frightened, insecure, man children walking around with visible penile substitutes in a desperate attempt to seem masculine?

Well that's my theory at least.

Yippee! This is an example of the free market at work. It appears that Smith and Wesson is experiencing the effects of market saturation. Those the gun manufacturers have convinced to buy as many guns as possible may finally have as many as they need/want and have decided to stop buying more or have decided to buy fewer guns.

Sales are down because they were super high when gun regulation legislation was being considered. Without new legislation to terrify gun owners, they aren't rushing to stock up "before it's too late". Next time some sane people propose regulations again, sales will soar.

Gun fetishists are generally little boys with a tremendous need to compensate for everything they lack ... which is a lot. It goes beyond the physical (which is a major component). They are also emotionally and intellectually retarded like Palin. The guns are their "Belmonts." Just look at the images of the two juvenile personalities Gryphen has posted above. They are playing 'grownup' in their minds. It is what Palin does.

This is probably due to the fact that so many millions of guns have already been purchased by Americans! I have friends (Republicans) who own five and six guns. I, a non partisan, on the other hand, own one!

Remember the story was that President Obama was going to cut off the gun supply to Americans, which of course never occurred! But, the idiots, on the right, sang that tune and a category of folk rushed out there and gorged themselves w/guns and bullets. They were 'oh, so afraid'!!!

Should anyone be surprised that sales have dropped? The gun talk has gone away.

That hysteria was spread far and wide by the NRA and the gun manufacturers in order to convince gun nuts that Big Bad Obama was coming for their guns. It would be downright reckless to pass on a gold mine of promotional opportunities that comes nearly free of charge, now wouldn't it?

Stock up! Run out and buy as many as you can carry while you still can! The supply will be cut off any day so hurry!!! The gubmint is coming, the gubmint is coming!!! Panic now!!!

(And make my profits soar...just a coincidence, mind you!)

I hate to say it, but the sales are probably down because the market is saturated. I mean, I work in a science lab. I take 500 ml water. I add 500 grams of NaCl. The solution is saturated. I can't add any more NaCl no matter how much more I'd like to add, it would just precipatate out.
The gun market is lke that. The market is saturated. As many guns have been sold as the market can handle, and no more can be sold. Sad. Too many fucking guns. Too many dead kids and wives.

You know, I was kind of thinking the same thing; the market is saturated. I keep reading that people who own guns, own 6 - 8 - 10 of them. They only have two hands; how many do they need?

Yeah while we're at it people should only have 1 car, 1 bike, 1 kitchen knife, 1 snowboard, 1 coat, and 1 TV.

I hope this trend continues. With the uptick of ammosexuals shooting off their appendages, perhaps the issue is hitting home. They have a pill for the hydaulics, but no pill can grow one back. Not to mention "accidentally shooting their own kids".

Plus millions of law enforcement trade-in guns were put on the market as they moved to higher capacity and militarized armament. Also know people (including police) that have one or two guns and have been "polled" but answer they have none.

The NRA knows that hunting is in decline and gun ownership is being saturated. And that is why they are doing several marketing strategies. They are pushing fear, #1, but additionally, they are pushing guns for women and children. I have been to various local hunting groups banquets and they absolutely reflect these 3 things. The men think its just great to give away weapons through raffles and auctions to children to get them started hunting, and women here in Alaska seem to get a little macho boost from having their own purse guns. Which chills me to the bone when I know many of these women have small children that can access those purses.

  8. Well, there has been a real surge in gun and ammo buying in the last few years. It couldn't really be sustained so slumping sales isn't that surprising.

And a gun isn't a consumable, like shoes. It takes a really long time to "wear out" a gun. And they're not cheap. How many guns can the average gun owner buy? At some point the wife or person of reason says "You're not buying another gun until.." the car is replaced, the mortgage is paid off, the kid graduates from college, etc.

While I'd like to think it's a dawning of sanity issue, I think it's more of an economic issue.

I see one big difference between all these anti gunner posts and pro gun advocates. Pro gun advocates post facts with research able statistics. All you anti gunners are doing is shouting insults about over compensation and they took er jobs rabble rabble rabble jargon jabs at gun owners making us all seem like stupid rednecks.
    http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2011/crime-in-the-u.s.-2011/tables/expanded-homicide-data-table-
Here are the FBI statistics for murder with weapons you'll note that firearm related deaths have been steadily falling and that most of these are with handguns. Not the evil AR'S and AK's. Firearms that I assume are mostly stolen. He'll knives are more than double the deaths from rifles.
    http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2011/crime-in-the-u.s.-2011/violent-crime/violent-crime
here you'll note violent crime in general has also dropped. Hmmm... and all of this while gun sales skyrocket! I guess these law abiding citizens or these evil black rifles aren't as dangerous as they are made out to be. If that's not enough for you please go to this link at census.gov A GOVERNMENT SITE and download the pic under 1103 that states in 2009 there were 33,000 vehicular deaths. That's only a little over quadruple the amount of gun deaths in 2012. Add in cigarettes and health issues and I don't think guns are the thing that's really killing Americans STUPIDITY!!! please feel free to check my FACTS!!!! If you Don't appreciate the way I utilizemy 1st or 2nd amendment I don't care. Don't bother attempting debate I've said my piece and anyway I don't feed trolls. Lol!!

Why is it that the anti-gun crowd is so interested in the genitals of Pro-gun folks? And why the sexist slant regarding comments about penis substitutes? With women being the largest growing demographic for new firearm purchases, why no vaginal equivalents to the tired "compensating for a small penis" argument?

Poor writing. Gun sales are down so *I insert my own feelings here and ignore actual stats*

I plan on buying three or four S&W firearms in the near future. The M&P Shield, M&P15, M&P15-22 for the wife, and a revolver, but I have to shoot some more revolvers before I decide which one.

I love all the lefties saying gun ownership is down because of polls indicating that. Oh yes, I can only imagine with all of the IRS and NSA scandals that gun owners are going to answer truthfully when some unknown person calls them on the phone. You lefties crack me up.

Here's the scoop in the past 20 years we progressed from approx 20 states allowing concealed carry to today and every F'ing state...all 50 baby!

Just for grins this year we went and got CCW in Guam....GUAM!!
