Wendy Davis welcomes the GOP delegates to Fort Worth. Oh this is good.

Oh man that's going to ruffle a few Republican feathers.

I have to say that I really like Wendy's style.

And I hope Texas gets it act together and puts this lady into the Governor's mansion. Because then we will REALLY see some feathers get ruffled!

Especially since the Texas Republicans are rapidly devolving into  a bunch of slack jawed, knuckle dragging, cultural cavemen (and women.)

At least according to the first draft of their 2014 platform:

Homosexuality: Delegates have stripped language from the party’s plank on homosexuality that says: “we affirm that the practice of homosexuality tears at the fabric of society and contributes to the breakdown of the family unit. Homosexual behavior is contrary to the fundamental, unchanging truths that have been ordained by God.” However, delegates have inserted language that supports therapy or treatment to “escape from the homosexual lifestyle.”

“We recognize the legitimacy and value of counseling which offers reparative therapy and treatment to patients who are seeking escape from the homosexual lifestyle. No laws or executive orders shall be imposed to limit or restrict access to this type of therapy.”

Note: This change drew some ire during testimony Thursday morning, with at least one delegate imploring the committee to return to the platform language about homosexuality tearing at the fabric of society.

Abortion:

This language looks new: “Until our final goal of total constitutional rights for the unborn child is achieved, we support laws that restrict and regulate abortion including, but not limited to:

  1. parental and informed consent;
  2. prohibition of abortion for gender selection;
  3. prohibition of abortion due to the results of genetic diagnosis
  4. licensing, liability, and malpractice insurance for abortionists and abortion facilities;
  5. prohibition of financial kickbacks for abortion referrals;
  6. prohibition of partial birth late-term abortions
  7. the prohibition of the manufacturing and sale of abortifacients (e.g. morning after pill);
  8. new causes of action for so called “wrongful birth” or “wrongful life”;
  9. enactment of any other laws which will advance the right to life for unborn children;
  10. health insurance coverage for abortion services and abortifacients under Texas law should be considered supplemental coverage and billed to the beneficiary;
  11. and repeal of judicial bypass.

Fracking dollars for counties:

Delegates putting together the draft platform also threw counties a bone:

“Counties with oil and gas production should receive a portion of the production taxes the state collects so that the road system can be maintained for the dual purpose of accommodating the needs of the industry and providing adequate public safety.”

Benghazi

And then there’s this:

“We call upon the United States House of Representatives to appoint a select committee and a special prosecutor in order to subpoena testimony to fully investigate all aspects of the Benghazi debacle, including, but not limited to, the reason Ambassador Stevens was in Benghazi; the denied assistance before and during the attack, the accounts of personnel who participated in the defense of the Embassy Annex, and the apparent attempt by the White House to deceive the American public with a concocted story about a spontaneous reaction to a YouTube video. We call for bringing those responsible to justice.”

Embracing reparative therapy, which the psychiatric community has condemned has harmful to gay people, adopting draconian abortion standards, and doubling down on Benghazi?

Oh yeah, Texas needs Wendy Davis alright. Desperately!

    Saw Wendy live and in person, as she spoke at an LGBT funddlraiser here in Austin last night. SO hopeful she would win, but it's going to be a tough battle.

      Isn't Austin the only area in TX that is NOT majority Republican? Good for them! Rick Perry has been their worst nightmare and a horrible leader.

      He's a numskull in even thinking he'd be a good candidate for POTUS. He'll never win as the majority across the nation know he'd be a disaster!

      Supposedly so. It is not the America I had adopted when I came here in the 1970s. Ready to abandon it.

      Bill Maher ended his show tonight by going after the “nitwits” of the Open Carry movement and their belief that bringing a gun to a public place with “sane people’ who might freak out about seeing those guns is just a reasonable show of support for their Second Amendment rights.

      Maher said that these “playdates with other gun owners” might sound nice to gun lovers, but it might make the world a little nicer to live in if they aren’t walking around trying to “scare the bejeezus out of everybody.”

      In fact, Maher said these people are so obsessed with their firearms, there is only one real takeaway here: “You’re ammosexuals!” And there’s something weird about observing a gun owner harboring an “unnatural romantic relationship” with their guns…

      Bill Maher's show was outstanding last night! Plus, he put down Sarah Palin in different segments of it. He is one comedian that takes the idiot on and I love him for doing so!

      For Bill Maher, Sarah Palin is like a helpless, nasty little rat that that the barn cat swats at and tosses around, intermittently letting it squirm away and then trapping it and holding it down with a single paw, just for the cat's own amusement. When the cat finally gets bored, he'll kill the rat, but not before harassing the shit out of it.

      Sarah has killed whatever brand was built for her, and she has spiraled down to her rightful place at the bottom as easy pickins for joke writers. The few imbeciles who are so naive to listen to her anymore are usually the butts of jokes themselves.

      Re Wendy Davis, she's not only going to be competitive in the general election this fall, but win or lose, she's going to be a strong leader for Texas in the future.

    Democrat Wendy Davis Responds Perfectly To Texas GOP Policy That Gays Need Reparative Therapy

    Today, in response to the Texas anti-gay platform supporting dangerous ex-gay therapy, Wendy Davis tweeted, “Unlike @TexasGOP, I believe that LGBT Texans #DontNeedFixin.”

    Federal Judge To Wisconsin: You Know 'Traditional' Marriage Was Polygamy, Right?

    ...In defending their same-sex marriage ban, state officials claimed that "virtually all cultures through time" have recognized marriage "as the union of an opposite-sex couple."

    But as U.S. District Judge Barbara Crabb wrote in her 88-page ruling on Friday, that's simply not true.

    "As an initial matter, defendants and amici have overstated their argument. Throughout history, the most 'traditional' form of marriage has not been between one man and one woman, but between one man and multiple women, which presumably is not a tradition that defendants and amici would like to continue," Crabb wrote in her opinion.

    The Republican Party Has Institutionalized Dishonesty

    Politicians lie. We all know this. There are lies of omission and lies of commission and lies that are the result of willful ignorance and lies that are the result of simple ignorance in its purest form. But only one party has institutionalized dishonesty, and that is the Republican Party.

      “This is a new and increasingly common form of political lying in Washington,” she said. “Getting away with this lie depends upon us being ignorant and easily led about what’s actually going on in that big, boring, catty high school that is Congress. There is a reason to know what hearings are going on when and who’s invited and who ought to be there.”

      “If you’re skipping the briefing to complain that there’s no briefing,” she concluded, “We’re not laughing with you, Congressmen, we’re laughing at you.”

    When you say "Embracing reparative therapy", surely you mean "Repetative therapy" where the Repulbicans just repeat themselves over and over again until we give up the will to live.

    I think her short, tongue in cheek ad is sheer brilliance. Toot your own horn while showcasing your work. The GOP, with that list of bullshit as a "platform" are setting themselves up for failure.
    We need more women like Wendy Davis running for office!
