Woman accidentally shot by vendor at gun show. Personally I don't like high pressure sale techniques.

Courtesy of WNEP:

A woman was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to her leg after police say a vendor at the Eagle Arms Gun Show at the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds accidentally shot her on Saturday.

Police in Columbia County said vendor Geoffrey Hawk, the owner of “In Case of Emergency,” shot Krysta Gearhart of Orangeville in the thigh with a semi-automatic .380 while demonstrating a concealed carry holster. Usually, the demonstration is done with a plastic model of a gun.

“Often times that is what is utilized. This time the vendor used a real gun,” said Sergeant Leonard Rogutski of the Bloomsburg Police.

Police say that there was not a magazine attached to the weapon, however there was a round in the chamber.

Reports were that while the customers remained fairly calm that the other vendors were upset because it "makes them look bad."

"Dammit! Did we shoot another one? That makes it so hard to sell these instruments of death when somebody gets shot in here."

  2. When an article is linked that does not include information about where (which state, etc.) something took place, it might be good for that information to be included in the introductory comments.

Do you have Google? It took my 2 seconds to see it is west of Philadelphia PA.

It's common practice for local news sources to omit state identification. In this case, the state is Pennsylvania, quickly identified using the clues in the article: WNEP - Bloomsburg Fairgrounds - Bloomsburg police - Columbia County

    3. Gryphen doesn't have that intern yet. So we all have to fill in, by following the link (state is identified on the website) and if you think it's important, posting that information here.

Let's face the facts, if you go to a gun show, you have a very high probablilty of getting shot.

The term 'responsible gun owner' becomes more and more laughable.

Funny how these gun shows never seem to sell that magic tool that checks to see if the f***ing gun is loaded.

I'm just surprised nobody fired at the vendor. You know, good guys with guns and whatnot.

  11. Here's a fun fact:

The #1 requested epitaph in Guntopia - aka the country formerly known as The United States of America - is "I didn't know it was loaded".

Yessir, Beldar! "Ammosexuals living and losing their lives and those of uninvolved bystanders at gunpoint in Guntopia" should be added to the arsenal of terms describing our Nation.

I hope the gun show shooter gets charged with something. Any more, it seems that just saying "it was an accident" gets a lot of people, as long as they are white, off the hook.

...AAAaaand still the number one hit on the "Responsible Gun Owner" charts with a bullet: "there was not a magazine attached to the weapon, however there was a round in the chamber."

I just wonder about the definition of "accident", because to me, an "accident" is an event that was unforeseen, not an event that was the direct result of incompetence by people who have no excuse not to have known better.

Only an overconfident jackass would pull a magazine out of a weapon and assume it was clear. Then again, these are the same overconfident jackasses that when asked where the safety is, they'll show you their index finger.

...and then go home to play a fun game of "point the gun at the toddler". Because "what could happen? I know what I'm doing!"

"It makes them look bad" said the other vendors. No, you're gung ho about your constitutional right to make a profit selling killing/maiming instruments. Again, the word "accident" is used as an excuse when they admit they "usually" use a plastic gun. Would it have been an "accident" if it had a full magazine and more than one person was maimed/killed? Hope she sues and wins.

  15. By law, aren't all guns at a gun show supposed to be unloaded? If not, they should be. Seems kinda logical you wouldn't have bullets or loaded magazines or loaded guns at a gun show.

One should never mix guns and stupid.
