Hey remember this guy?

I am constantly bemused by the notion that just as the conservatives deify the memory of Ronald Reagan, that if he were to be resurrected in another body he would NEVER pass their purity test to even be considered as a viable candidate for dog catcher.

  1. Reagan was everything the modern day GOP loves---except of course his policies.

He was not a deep thinker, he was racist, his administration was corrupt (more of them went to jail than any other administration) and he had something (sadly) wrong with his brain that made him incompetent. And they all knew it and didn't acknowledge it. This happens daily, now.

And most of all he was a treasonous bastard. See hostages being released the day of his inauguration which any thinking person deduces that a private citizen played politics with a terrorist state. Reagan should have been in handcuffs.

      Thank you, angela.

Pres 666 did have a nice smile, but should be decaying in a cell. Maybe he is. But I digress....

More went to jail than from Nixon's admin? Is that accurate? I did not know that.

Prince Ronnie was merely a face, a front man for the puppeteer. He was the face in the ad.

You are so right. Reagan today would be laughed out of the GOP..he raised taxes, grew government, believed in separation of church and state, and those were just the legal things he did.
It's so ignorant of the right to deify someone they obviously are clueless about (of course, many are trying to deify an ignoramus like Palin, run a domninionist for President, and think Rand Paul is intelligent, so there ya go.) All we can do is vote and hope the forces for good are stringer than the forces for evil.

Conservatives unearthing a dead guy to fulfill an agenda... Now where has this happened before in history? Jesus christ, it's on the tip of my tongue.

You should have included the entire paragraph. The sentences before the quote above are "We in the United States, above all must remember that lesson, for we were founded as a nation of openness to people of all beliefs. And so we must remain. Our very unity has been strengthened by our pluralism." Then comes the above quote and it is followed by "All are free to believe OR NOT BELIEVE (my emphasis), all are free to practice a faith OR NOT, and those who believe are free, and should be free, to speak of and act on their belief".

I lived through the Regan years. I couldn't stand him. He slept through most of his meetings, Regan's wife protected him. She had astrology people to plan his events. My husband was a UAW worker. We got a new car, able to pay off in a few years, got to go on vacation. Then Regan shut down the air traffic controllers. The trend to give back gains made by unions, still hasn't stopped today. Insurance and benefits. That man started all this greed and indifference, In his administration a lot or most became weapons dealers to every other government, and lobbyist. That is what Regan brought.. No waiting period to start bribing their fellow people any administration.

Here Are 6 Reagan Quotes on Immigration That Republicans Would Rather Forget

In their canonization of Ronald Reagan, conservatives have conveniently forgotten quite a bit. One of the biggest lapses in right-wing memory concerning Saint Ronnie is his stance on immigration.

In 1986, Reagan signed a sweeping immigration reform bill: the Immigration Reform and Control Act. He sold it with things conservatives love, calling it a crackdown, promising more and better border security and penalties for employers who hired illegal immigrants. But it also included an amnesty program. Oh, they didn’t call it that. They used “legalization” but it was amnesty and nearly 3 million people came forward to apply.

The late James Garner served with Reagan on the Screen Actors' Guild (VP and Pres., respectively). Garner said that Reagan never had an original thought, and that everything had to be scripted before he'd open his mouth at the meetings. Garner was horrified when Reagan was recruited by the Repubs for California Gov., (and equally horrified with Arnold), and was even more horrified at the thought of Reagan becoming U.S. President. Just a pretty face with a silver tongue and an empty head.
I'd almost say simple Sarah fits that description, except for the silver tongue (forked tongue is more apt). Repubs have a penchant for choosing dim candidates whom they believe they can control. Pretty damn sad for the country.

It's bizarre to me that rethugs can't see that Prince Ronnie was a hand puppet for the GOP. His wife was feeding him lines in public because he couldn't remember his script.

    Gryphen,
At least once a week, you should post something he said, did, or supported that is the opposite of what the RWNJ believe and, in fact, rage against. It's called "mind-fucking" the opposition.

"Wellllllll" I'm submitting the above graphic with Ron in front of the flag while holding a flag to the "Department of Redundancy Department". The chair at the GOP convention is more qualified than Saint Ronald Reagan was the day he was inaugurated. A lot of people forgot his failures because of the failed attempt at assassination by a mad man with a gun. He's held up today as the example of morality and conservatism, while overlooking tiny mistakes like the Iran Contra thingy and his making policy based on his wife's oija board, grifters and psychics invited to the people's house for advice.
Not to mention his daughter's proclivity to pose for playboy, you know, just because daddy divorced mommy and she was going through a rebellious phase. But she kissed and made up just in time to be included in the will, way past when he'd even recognize her.

    Family Values, my ass!
