UN official breaks down on camera while discussing the Israeli shelling of UN run school in Gaza strip.

Courtesy of the Washington Post:

As my colleagues report, Palestinian officials and a U.N. agency say Israeli artillery shells on Wednesday hit a U.N.-run school that was sheltering Palestinian families, killing at least 20. A U.N. statement pinned the blame on the Israeli military, which says it's investigating the incident. "Today the world stands disgraced," the statement read.

For Chris Gunness, a spokesman for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, which has numerous facilities in Gaza, it's all too much. This is the sixth time UNRWA sites have been hit during Israel's current campaign. He broke down sobbing during an interview, footage of which was screened by Al Jazeera Arabic. Watch above.

So far in more than three weeks of fighting, 1,340 Palestinians have died, the majority of whom were civilians, including many women and children. Fifty-three Israeli soldiers have perished, as have three civilians in Israel, one of whom was a farm worker from Thailand.

Of course the Israelis are now denying that they had anything to do with this attack and are blaming it on the Palestinians.

However earlier they did more or less admit firing in the school's direction:

Lt. Col. Peter Lerner of the Israeli military said no United Nations facility had been targeted. A military spokeswoman said that Palestinian militants had “opened fire at Israeli soldiers from the vicinity” of the school on Wednesday morning, and that Israeli troops had “responded by firing toward the origins of the fire.”

Simply put, killing children in their sleep is indefensible.

“That’s where I found this two-and-a-half-year-old with panda-sized, huge, suppurating, round, panda-like wounds that almost prevented her eyes from opening at all. They were the consequence of a broken skull and a fractured nose.” – U.K. news reporter Jon Snow at Gaza’s al-Shifa hospital. Photo: Screen grab U.K. Channel 4 News report.

Indefensible.

I cried my eyes out last night. And to think that people like Palin thinks this is justified...She's a crimal herself for supporting these killers.

She's beyond that, friend: She's a chicken-hawk, chicken-shit, false theist. She advocates the death of non-Christians by way of false, whorish affiliation with her own proclaimed religion(s) of Christianity and Judaism. Dumb fucking broad.

Why does America support Israel? Can say I am not pro them at all - especially watching their blatant killing abilities of women and children and the harm/injuries they are doing to the folks in the United Nations who are working over there! er there!

Because too many people can't let go of an ancient book of fairy tales that tells them that Israel is "God's Chosen" nation and they can do whatever they want to do while everyone else has to clean up the mess. Now, in the book, God tells them that if they don't follow His laws, He would destroy their nation and scatter them to the ends of the earth, which happened, but politicians and religious fanatics worked long and hard to bring it back. Because, without a nation called Israel, they don''t believe their Messiah will be able to return and kill everyone they hate...3/4ths of the Jews who refuse to accept him included. Our country and Government has been held hostage to this idiotic prophecy that the Christians work so hard every day to make happen, for decades. Ain't religion great!?

The horrible irony is that the early Zionists were adamant that Israel would be a secular nation.

Der Judenstaat, Herzl’s Zionist blueprint of 1896:

Faith unites us, knowledge gives us freedom. We shall therefore prevent any theocratic tendencies from coming to the fore on the part of our priesthood. We shall keep our priests within the confines of their temples in the same way as we shall keep our professional army within the confines of their barracks.

US's support of Israel should be conditional upon Israel stopping the building on palestinian land. They must give back that land. That will take away the Palestians' reason to fight Israel and peace might stand a chance.

Israel must stop offering a homeland to every Jew on Earth. I have been there 3 times. There is NO ROOM. they would have to take over all of Palestine to do that.

Here's what the deputy speaker of the Knesset (parliament) wrote in a recent op-ed:

"... Gaza, it will become part of sovereign Israel and will be populated by Jews. This will also serve to ease the housing crisis in Israel."

Read the whole thing. It is an eye-opener.

This man has also had to announce the deaths of six of his UN colleagues since this all started, including two just this past Tuesday. Between that and the deaths of women and children in Gaza it's a wonder he has any composure left to lose.

And Sarah Palin is just wriggling her ass off delighting in her "support" for Israel. She doesn't give a rat's ass about Israel, only pushing her fat face everywhere it's not wanted. Horrible bitch!

    1. Civilians have no where to go--Gaza ain't that big, everyone is poor & it is crowded already.
    2. This was all trumped up by Bibi when they used the kidnappings to inflict collective punishment in the West Bank
    3. If Israel cared, they'd find another way to accomplish their goals without firing missiles into schools hoping they hit insurgents.
    4. Notice we don't even get so much as an "Oops!" out of Israel when this happens: "Kids are being blown up?" *shrug*

Israel is costing the USA money because we are supporting them in this current fight as we have in others throughout the years!

It's way past time for us to stop and let them fight their own battle over there w/their own war materials...I also think we have provided the armory. Enough is enough!

Children, women, men and families are fearing for their lives on the strip. Can you imagine what it must be like? Frightening as hell and will scar the children forever!

What's more, the Jews know that the UN shelters don't have any weapons- and still they bomb them.

It's like they herd them into a location by telling them to leave their homes, which they are going to bomb, and then bomb them in the known shelter. Could have just left out that middle step involving the UN. I really hate where my tax dollars are at work overseas.

Indefensible, you hit the nail on the head. I watch European stations, and all our news channels "sanitize" the footage as to not "offend" anyone's "Puritan Sensitivities". The Italian station reports REAL news, including the lines of dead bodies, and family members literally rummaging through, looking for their dead relatives. And, yes, it's real and viscerally shocking to see the wounds and destruction on film.
I've thought a lot about all the kids we've lost to gun violence, and I think showing the real injuries would shock the consciences of people and something will be done to stop it sooner.

A Letter to Americans From A 20 Year Old Palestinian Girl in Gaza

...Smoke was filling my house. My dad – a professor at the local university – said that we would suffocate if we stayed where we were but the problem was that we couldn’t get to the 2nd floor of our house and we couldn’t go outside. Our only option was my uncle’s house. My dad started calling his name but there was no response. I learned later that you have to look for the lowest part of the building in these types of situations. And if you’re able to find a place underground – then you would really be lucky!

My dad put his hands over my mouth so I wouldn’t inhale the gas and the smoke. A few seconds later my uncle could finally hear my father’s desperate voice and he was able to let us in. We ran in. We ran to the first room; as soon as the windows started to make weird noises – we would run to the farthest room, because the windows of this room will be broken in less than a second and the whole room will be leveled to the ground. One of life’s lessons taught me that you always run to the room furthest from the noise, and if you can find a room with wide iron walls you will be lucky.

We kept running until we could get to the farthest room in the house; the men made sure that all the women and children were alive and counted for in an unbelievably fast manner. My sister was sitting on the ground when she started shouting “Dad! I see a red thing in the entrance of the room”. That “red thing” was a fire that started to grow. All of the men including my 11 year old brother worked quickly to fend off the fire. I had to be silent: to listen , to watch and learn. If I had cried – it would have only increased the burden for everyone else … so I had to be strong!

I was 5 years old and and on that day my childhood evaporated into the adult world.
