Compared to U.S. Presidents from Truman to Bush, Obama stacks up well. http://t.co/HZq8RjfOWa pic.twitter.com/9P6AAECpVh
— Keith Boykin (@keithboykin) July 2, 2014
Boykin is referencing this Op-ed he posted on July 2nd refuting the findings of the Quinnipiac poll which states among other things:
Under President Obama, the unemployment rate has fallen from 10 percent in 2009 to 6.3 percent today. Under George W. Bush, on the other hand, the unemployment rate rose from 4.2 percent to 7.8 percent.
Under President Obama, the U.S. economy is gaining 200,000 jobs a month. When Bush left office, however, we were losing 700,000 jobs a month.
Under President Obama, at least 24 million people have gotten health insurance. The rate of uninsured has declined from 18 percent to 13.4 percent and the rate for Blacks has dropped dramatically from 20.9 percent to 14.7 percent. And despite all the exaggerated GOP claims that Obamacare would be a "job killer," we've actually added more than 9 million new private sector jobs since the president signed the law.
Under President Obama, businesses are also booming again. In the first few weeks of his presidency, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was sitting at 6547. Today it's close to 17,000, a 10,000 point increase in five years! And corporate profits hit an all-time record high just last year.
Don't forget Obama inherited from Bush a deeply divided country, engaged in two wars, in the midst of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, with banks collapsing, housing prices plummeting and the domestic auto industry on the verge of extinction.
President Obama ended the war in Iraq, drew down troops in Afghanistan, captured Osama Bin Laden, averted a second depression, helped to rescue the financial sector, stabilized home prices and saved more than a million jobs in the auto industry.
At the same time, he enacted the most sweeping health care reform legislation in 50 years, something Richard Nixon, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton couldn't do, and which Ronald Reagan and the two Bushes never wanted to do.
Compared to Bill Clinton, Obama also stacks up well.
Boykin then goes on to explain why that last statement is true.
And Boykin is not the only pundit to take great umbrage at the findings by Quinnipiac. Talk Show host Joe Madison held nothing back:
Quinnipiac you bastards.
Obama the worst President? Hardly!!!.
Obama caught the Times Square Bomber in 52 hours; you bastards.
Obama caught the Boston Marathon Bombers in less that 10 days; you bastards.
Obama caught Bin Laden in 2 years; something Bush could not do in 8; you bastards.
Obama caught the Benghazi attackers in 2 years; you bastards.
Obama got rid of Gaddaffi without one loss of American life; you bastards; it took Bush $3 Trillion to get rid of Saddam; and 4000 American lives.
Obama got rid of Sarin, GB, VX in Syria without firing a shot; you bastards.
Obama has 50 plus months of private sector job growth; you bastards.
The damned stock market is within 1000 points of tripling under Obama since the March 8, 2009 low; that means $3000 is now worth $9000; $30,000 is now worth $90,000; $90,000 is worth $270,000; $270,000 is now worth $810,000; $30 billion is now worth $90 billion; you bastards.
Corporate profits are at record highs under Obama; you bastards.
Obama has 50 plus months without a double dip recession; you bastards.
Obama has given us 9 million new jobs; you bastards.
You know I could read that all day long.
You know this President is by no means perfect. But by any rational measure he is doing an incredible job while withstanding some of the worst partisan attacks in American history.
What he inherited from the Bush administration would have traumatized a weaker man but President Obama rolled up his sleeves and started digging through the rubble on his first day in office.
And what he has accomplished since is nothign shy of miraculous.
Personally I don't think the Right Wing hates him becasue they see him as a failure, instead they fear him because they realize how well he has succeeded.
That's my president! Lots to see here, including his statement on the humanitarian crisis at the border and his speech on the economy. People LOVE this man, and it shows!
ReplyDeletehttp://theobamadiary.com/
OMG! Ricky is soooo not a happy camper. And PBO is in rare form! That is a photo for all time!
DeleteNot only do I looooove Our POTUS, I now have a harmless crush on Mr. Boykin! Mwahh! Tsatskeleh der Mama! ("Mama's little precious!")
DeleteActually, if you remember, he was working BEFORE he even got into office. Remember how he stepped in regarding the crashing economy in late 2008, and worked with Bush and his staff before he was even inaugurated. Remember he was the one with the ideas when McCain 'suspended' his campaign and went to DC demanding that Bush call a meeting, and he sat there and didn't say a word at the meeting he had demanded. It was OBAMA who took charge. THAT is when McCain officially lost the election, although after the first surge of Sarah's influence because she was new and unknown, and then people began to see her for the fool she was, he was already headed downhill, but that stupid move in suspending his campaign, did him in.
ReplyDeleteNo leader was McCain -- HE was lead by the nose by SP. What the hell does she have on him (apart from his wimpiness) that makes him defend her -- still?
DeleteThe lower the unemployment rate and the higher the Dow, the more frantic the Republicans become because they know just how successful he's been, and how this will affect their political futures. They couldn't win in '08 during two wars with a POW vet as their candidate; they lost in '12, while the economy was still recovering, with a businessman as their candidate. They've got no leadership or vision going into '16, when Barack Obama will be hailed for his two successful terms in office.
ReplyDeleteYES! Yes, and yes, yes, yes! That is exactly how it is and you've articulated it magnificently!
DeleteI sound like a broken record, but I will say once again that President Obama is the best President in my lifetime. In my view, he is one of the top five Presidents in our history.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. And he does it with dignity. Can't say I'd be half as composed in his situation.
DeleteI also agree with Joe Madison. He knows the underlying cause of the hatred. The bastards.
I second that and I'm on the planet now 6 decades.
DeleteI have NEVER felt more safe or more trusting of a president than I do PBO. He's such a good, good man, in every way and it breaks my heart that he faces what he does every day, but he's never faltered. He's never given in to cynicism or bitterness or defeat. He keeps fighting for what is right and kind and they keep attacking him for it.
I'm not big on the whole christian thing, but it seems to me that this man LIVES his faith, rather than pontificating about it. There is nothing that is fraudulent or insincere about him and his actions and you can go back 20 years and he's been saying the same thing about equality and fairness and support for the everyday man, woman and child.
In the language of Yiddish, he's a mensch. Mensch means a person of integrity and honor, someone to admire and emulate, someone of noble character. The key to being "a real mensch" is nothing less than character, rectitude, dignity, a sense of what is right and that is our president.
Have you read his books? Dreams From My Father is a lovely read, but hard to do when you keep tearing up with love for this great, humble man.
DeleteI love President Obama and am as proud of him as can be. He is a kind man - babies and animals love him immediately! He is smart, steady, genuine, caring and leading our country in a magnificent manner. He is admired overseas even though the Republicans will not admit it! Republicans - instead of bashing, obstructing and demeaning him should be following his example!
DeleteThank you President Obama, VP Biden, First Lady Obama for your wonderful leadership skills! The majority in America love and respect you all!
Barbara Carson is spot on re: reading his books. I think it helps round out why he's such a great man, President and Father. When he writes about his mom is when the waterworks really opened up for me. He genuinely cares for humanity and his Family Value creds are more than talking points. He lives it.
DeleteThe Republicans know that impeaching Bill Clinton was the worst thing that they could have done. All that it did was generate more votes for Democrats in the following election. And, it made them look stupid. With Sarah Palin leading the Impeachment Parade, she is making them look even more stupid.
ReplyDeleteSomeone (McCain?) needs to shut the bitch up - i.e. Sarah Palin. She is helping kill their party - they are going to lose upcoming elections and they'll have no one to blame but themselves...even though the polls tell 'them' they'll take over the Senate!
DeleteI can hardly wait to vote and knock every Republican out of office, or into a new office, where I can! (national - state and city levels)
They hate him because he is blah. He reminds them of the fact that they will soon be in the in the minority.
ReplyDeleteThe rest of the world thinks he is great.
" . . . they fear him because they realize how well he has succeeded."
ReplyDeleteTouche. Well stated. President Barack Obama is head and shoulders above them and they cannot stand their own inadequacy.
Instead of trying to build themselves up, they find it easier to tear others down, especially outstanding President Barack Obama.
Yes,
ReplyDeleteI only wish he could run for a third term. Or a fourth.
ReplyDeleteObama On Not Visiting Border: 'I'm Not Interested In Photo-Ops'
ReplyDeletePresident Obama on Wednesday again criticized Congress' approach to immigration issues in a speech about the border crisis and addressed calls for him to visit the border.
"I’m not interested in photo-ops. I'm interested in solving a problem," Obama said when asked about his decision not to take a trip to the border.
He noted that Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson has been to the border multiple times.
"There’s nothing that’s taking place down there that I’m not intimately aware of or briefed on," Obama said.

O/T but Gryphen, you'll love this!
ReplyDeleteSuck It, Creationists: ‘Cosmos’ Drew Biggest Global Audience EVER for the National Geographic Channel
...The Cosmos reboot (the original ran on PBS in the 1980′s with the celebrity-scientist du jour, Carl Sagan) first aired to 8.5 million people in 180 countries, and took the world by storm. Variety — a popular trade magazine for the entertainment industry — reports that the show now boasts a huge worldwide audience of 135 million, and 45 million in the U.S. alone. Needless to say, this is the hugest audience the humble, nerdy folks at the National Geographic Channel have ever drawn for any of their shows.
http://aattp.org/suck-it-creationists-cosmos-drew-biggest-global-audience-ever-for-the-national-geographic-channel/
I watched with rapt attention each week and was really sad when the series ended. It pleases me that it has had such universal appeal. Good for Neil DeGrasse Tyson!
DeleteBeaglemom
Now I want them to do a reboot of James Burke's Connections.
DeleteFuck the Right Wing! President Obama has outsmarted them every step of the way. Now they are hollering at him (as is the media!) that he hasn't gone to the border! Have any of them thought about how busy he is w/running this country? He has many things on his plate! He's got folks in his Administration that have gone to the border and report back to him. He works w/them to solve the problems!
ReplyDeleteI voted for him both times and would again if he could legally run! And, I detest Republicans after watching how they have operated/obstructed since President Obama took his first oath.
They are a deplorable bunch and should be voted out of office in the U.S. Congress. We need a new, younger bunch that work for Americans. And, we need term limits!
These fat assed, older white guys are waaay past their time in Washington D.C. They are a horrid bunch of jerks that do absolutely nothing except take our taxpayer money!
YES!
ReplyDeletePlus...ever notice how mad people get when they know they are wrong?
Suck it up, GOP, you have been beaten in a Presidential election (twice) and in every other
way in which this President governs -- something you ought to try. Grow up, already!!
Very , very true Gryphen. And thanks for the info.
ReplyDeleteYou know, as irritating as it is to hear this rubbish from the Right, it's even worse to hear it from the radical Left. Barack Obama evidently didn't live up to the dreams they had of him. He wasn't radical enough. THEY'RE the ones I'd like to punch in the head when they start complaining that he hasn't done enough!
ReplyDeleteCouldn't have said it any better my self.
DeleteWell, I will say he squandered his congressional support the first two years, then lost the majority to the Republicans, who proceeded to obstruct him. He should have anticipated that and so moved his agenda faster while he still had the chance.
DeleteHe is also a very poor disciplinarian. He gave in to the Republicans repeatedly, getting nothing in return. He allowed them to call the shots with no consequences whatsoever.
Lieberman should have been sanctioned and be relieved of all of his committees.
I'd say the President's newfound backbone is 5 years too late.
WHEN A TRUE GENIUS APPEARS IN THE WORLD, YOU WILL KNOW HIM BY THIS SIGN: THAT ALL THE DUNCES ARE ALL IN CONFEDERACY AGAINST HIM.
ReplyDeleteJONATHAN SWIFT
I really like that! Thanks
DeleteThank you for listing the many reasons I love this president.
ReplyDeleteThe RWNJ's have nothing comparable. My only regret is that I won't be able to vote for him again. Imagine what he could have accomplished without having to babysit and coddle the GOP TP, now he's going the executive order route and I don't blame him in the least.
ReplyDeleteWhile many of us would love to be able to vote for President Obama once more, we can work to give him a Congress that will work with him and not against him. Support Democratic candidates and vote for them in November 2014!
DeleteBeaglemom
I'm often amused when my right-wing friends say Obama doesn't respect the constitution, doesn't even understand it.
ReplyDeletePresident Obama used to teach Constitutional Law at a university level.
Yes, Obama is black.
ReplyDeleteWhich means he's put up with crap from people like the GOP all his life.
Doesn't bother him at all.
The President just shakes it off. Tightens his resolve. And heads out the door.
Just like he has every single day.
Drives the Republicans crazy.
I would so love to know what he's thinking when he flashes that grin.
Now, if we can just get Hillary to put Obama on the Supreme Court. Wouldn't that be great.
Dee
It is not Quinnipac but the American people
ReplyDeletewho think Obama is the worst President
He won that easily
President Obama also won re-election easily. No, the American people do not think he is the "worst president," only idiots polled by Quinnipac. The title "worst president" clearly belongs to George W. Bush.
DeleteBeaglemom
If Quinnipac only polled idiots
DeleteBush would have won easily
That would depend on who they asked and how the questions was phrased. You can get any answer you want in a poll as long as you control the question and those polled.
DeleteObama the best President in the last 50 years? Hell yes!
ReplyDeleteThose are all very nice short term successes. In general he has been a very successful president. In general.
ReplyDeleteBut the only long term success we need he has failed at: Education. Both Obama and Arne Duncan are wrong about views on education and what they are doing is damaging this country long term. The damage won't be apparent for a decade or more. But in the one thing that really counts for the successful future of this country, Obama has taken the wrong path and continues to double down on that mistake.
He may have turned everything else around for the good, but in education he continued the downward path of his predecessors and has in some cases hastened it with his policies.
If this blog is still around in 10 or 20 years, I'll be happy to remind everyone of my prediction and a big fat "told you so".
