"He's lucky to get out of here alive." Kentucky judge's response to seeing a defendant's Barack Obama shirt.

Courtesy of KYCIR:

When Darryl Broaddus stood before Judge Sandra McLaughlin last summer for his arraignment on drug charges, he already had one strike against him. That strike: a Barack Obama t-shirt.

“He’s lucky to get out of here alive,” McLaughlin said within earshot of Broaddus and a full courtroom. Twice, she stated that the shirt was “not helping” his cause.

“Did you see his t-shirt? Barack Obama, ‘Let’s Do It Again.’ That was a double whammy,” she said, according to video footage of the courtroom.

You can see the video here:

Apparently this is not the first time that Judge McLaughlin has made inappropriate and sometimes racist remarks in her courtroom. In fact apparently she is the lowest ranked judge in Lousiville right now.

Gee, how surprising.

Is there no move for a mistrial or a recall?

    Let us be honest.

    She is attractive.

    For her age.

    Then she opens her mouth.

    And becomes ugly.

    For any age.

Not only is this racist and completely unacceptable behavior, but she doesn't even try to hide it.

And the other people are LAUGHING!!!!

I certainly hope there is some recourse taken, both for the defendant and for her position as a judge.

This is why I cringe whenever I hear Democrats saying we need more women in office...or as judges.

She should be Removed from the bench. Judges are supposed to be "impartial" and not let their personal feelings or prejudices taint their decisions in the court, if she can't do that she should be removed. How come his attorney hasn't asked for a different judge? We should all write and get her kicked off the bench.

This is an ignorant thing. Not a gender thing. I looked for this judge's educational background but couldn't find any details. This link is interesting - -disclosure: website is Americans Against the Tea Party http://aattp.org/kentucky-judge-says-black-defendant-wearing-obama-shirt-lucky-to-get-out-of-here-alive-video/

Because one crazy lady was elected judge? Way to throw out the baby with the bath water. Imagine if men had to stand up to such scrutiny!

No, no, no! I don't think it's a gender thing. I set out to make the point that the judge was another example that being an hateful asshole is gender-neutral. I failed.

Because most of Kentucky voters feel the same way. The south is ugly, real ugly.

Oh, fuck you. This woman doesn't represent the whole south but hey I understand some of you have to judge entire areas of the country by the actions of its loudest and ugliest people. You should be a Palin fan with that shitty attitude.

Makes you have a lot of confidence in the US Judicial system... IMO the conservative members of the SCOTUS have abandoned rational thought and dove directly into the rich whites only pool.

This is ridiculously random, but has anyone seen "Stories We Tell?"

Very eye opening when one tries to grasp why it's common that so many incredibly different stories exist centering around the same event.

And eye opening in that we as PEOPLE in general really cannot make a judgment call on anything, related to us directly or not.

  16. He should have worn a Jail For Judges tee shirt. I had probation officers make comments about an Obama sticker I had, they were laughing, but considering what happened later I think they were serious. These rednecked bastards think they can do whatever they want. What she is saying is gossiping about the defendants, that is a common thread. Do you think there aren't judges like this in rural Alaska? There are, due process be damned.

This waste-of-space judge was elected. Scary for Kentucky.
