"Pro-Military" charity turns out to be scam to line the pockets of Teabaggers instead.

Courtesy of the Daily Beast:

In February 2013, Move America Forward announced an ambitious fundraising goal. The charity, launched in part by one of the most prominent figures in the Tea Party movement, had adopted the 800 Marines in a battalion fighting in Afghanistan and wanted to send them all care packages.

“For some troops, these care packages are the only mail they will receive all year,” the group said in one email solicitation.

The charity later described the fundraising drive as a rousing success: In less than five weeks, all 800 Marines in a 1st Marine Division battalion nicknamed Geronimo were sent care packages and notes in Afghanistan, it claimed.

But that couldn’t have been true. The Marines of Geronimo weren’t even in Afghanistan during Move America Forward’s fund drive. Instead, they were deployed more than 3,000 miles away, in Okinawa, Japan.

Move America Forward calls itself the nation’s “largest grassroots pro-troop organization,” and has recruited a bevy of Republican luminaries, including former Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush and former Vice President Dick Cheney, to support its efforts.

Yet an examination of its fundraising appeals, tax records and other documents shows that Move America Forward has repeatedly misled donors and inflated its charitable accomplishments, while funneling millions of dollars in revenue to the men behind the group and their political consulting firms.

The article goes on to describe the "charity" using soldier's stories and images without their permission, funneling millions of dollars to political operatives, and even using a 2004 stock image of troops unloading supplies from a Chinook helicopter for a mission and claiming that it was donations from Move America Forward.

What kind of assholes would be behind something like this you ask?

These assholes:

The driving force behind Move America Forward is Sal Russo, 67, the longtime political consultant who is listed on the 10-year-old charity’s tax returns as chief strategist.

Russo is better known for helping to form the Our Country Deserves Better PAC, also known as the Tea Party Express, one of the largest Tea Party groups in the country. Consultants from his Sacramento-based firm, Russo, Marsh and Associates, also set up two other PACs, the Move America Forward Freedom PAC and the Conservative Campaign Committee, to aid conservative causes and candidates.

Russo and his associates have previously drawn attention for lavishing funds raised through the committees on themselves, using this money on an Alaskan cruise and fancy hotels as well as paying themselves huge consulting fees.

Wait.

Huge consulting fees?

An Alaskan cruise?

You don't think?

Oh yeah.

What was I thinking? If there is a scam using the military, that funnels millions of dollars into the hands of political operatives,  who undoubtedly send a little of it into the PAC's of various politi-celebs who offer their services, how could Sarah Palin NOT be involved?

That is all republicans are, scammers. A c4per has been strong-arming the rest into subscribing to palin's channel, and giving tips on how to afford it, including going through their closets and putting items on craig's list!!

I could afford 10, but I have to borrow a credit card to pay. I don’t want to borrow a credit card every month, so I’m working on saving up 100 and then borrowing a card once. I’m hoping my family’s health improves, or even if it just doesn’t get worse, I can join maybe in September.

This is PATHETIC. Next they'll be asking them to trade in their food stamps and rx money.

TRuly shameful indeed. But nothing surprises me about Sarah Palin scamming money out of those that don't have it. And no doubt in my mind, that Sarah Palin also knows this "Move America Forward.org" is just another scam to line her PAC so she and her unemployed family can live high off the hog.

So W and Cheney are screwing the servicepeople over AGAIN. First with a trumped up war, now with a "charity" Where is ISSA to investigate this legitimate scam? Whenever a repub is involved in a "charity" it always seems to be a scam of some sort. Tom DeLay had a children;s charity, most of the money was spent on golf vacations, fancy hotels etc. Hardly any if any, went to children. Money grubbing slugs is all they are. I imagine W and Cheney are paid for the use of their names on this.

It is top secret what Track Palin did in the service. He could have been in re-hab most of the time. Once he visited the set of the TV show Earning Stars and Stripes to learn what soldiers do.

All we know about Track is he kept returning back home. Other troops do about a year of duty. Not Track Palin. He kept coming home to visit.

The schemes to use the military and veterans are as old as the hills. They are well known and lucrative forms of self promoting for celebrity and making evil folks so very rich on the backs of others. Both of the Palins would drool with the thought of easy money and glory for their phony military images. They think nothing of praising any money maker but dare a veteran stand up for the truth they don't want to know, woe!!!!

Jackass can brey all she wants, the public is seeing her for what she is.
    http://nation.foxnews.com/2014/08/03/palin-slams-%E2%80%98jackass%E2%80%99-jesse-ventura-%E2%80%98shaking-down%E2%80%99-chris-kyle%E2%80%99s-widow
It is a lie, false narrative, twisting facts and so on to say that Jesse Ventura is 'Shaking Down' Chris Kyle's window. No matter what quote marks or how she couches her crap. She is doing it to ruin his reputation and his earning power. What does the revenge matron gain?

No one knows the true story about Chris Kyle. And his widow will make plenty more money with a sel promoting movie. The Kyle story, we are told, is that he was being charitible and taking a poor troubled PTSD vet to a rich man's holiday shooting range where guns and shooting are glorified. It's about building up people like Rick Perry. Poor people don't go there except at the mercy of rich men. Kyle knew more about helping PTSD victims than the experts so he was winging it when he claimed to be a do-gooder. At best he was not thinking of helping others but he was playing doctor or even God, he wanted to be known as charitiable. Or the PTSD vet may have been someone being set up for a nefarious scheme. In any event teh PTSD vet's paranoia was never explained.

I am glad his widow didn't settle, but she had millions from the book and she could have made Kyle look better by not going to trial and proving the man is a liar. He trashed a fellow military man with his lies and the same thing is continuing, thanks Breitbart Palin. Kyle should be called out for what he did, he isn't just a dead man, he is also a business and image. Albeit false. What actually happened when he played with the PTSD vet will never be fully known. But Kyle was a sick man from what we know now. He may have played more of a part in getting himself killed by the troubled vet than anyone wants to admit. He is not someone that should be made into a hero for a propaganda film.

Sarah Palin is wrong again to pile up lies on a man that has served his country well and with principle. Jesse never quit. The poor widow (not a shake down) will make more from the bias movie that won't tell the whole story. More propaganda for the war machine. And they want to ruin Jesse Ventura's name, reputation and earnings by saying he is the dirty dog in all this.

Jesse Ventura is one of the better examples of our military and veterans and he doesn't deserve to be taken down the path of the low life schemers that use and abuse the military and vets.

I didn't know who Chis Kyle was. Only that he was a war hero who was shot in Texas.

This is why Kyle has hero status and his widow didn't want Ventura to stand up for himself?

Christopher Scott "Chris" Kyle (April 8, 1974 – February 2, 2013) was a United States Navy SEAL who claimed to be the most lethal sniper in American military history with 160 "confirmed" kills out of 255 claimed kills. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Kyle

That was Bush's War (Cheney). They took the standards down and yes, they would award the best killer in that war with numerous medals. They had to promote our strength as being the most deadly warrior and sell that war. They tried to make Jessica Lynch a super hero, also. She stood up and didn't allow herself to be used for propaganda.

      Delete
    3. Anonymous2:37 PM

Unfortunately, many believed the story of Jessica Lynch. Only much later was the truth told. One day the TRUTH about little Johnny McCain will be revealed also, too.

I hated the fake Jessica Lynch story. The poor girl was raped while suffering with broken bones. Nobody's supposed to talk about it.

      3:27 PM

Yes, and she knows they are lies.

I do not respect liars or those that perpetuate lies created by husbands or others. Mrs. Kyle's movie should be exposed for being propaganda and not a hero story. She is stealing money when she makes it in that dishonest manner. Heer husband, chris Kyle, had no strength of character. He could have stayed loyal to the Seals even if he was jealous of Mr. Ventura.

It takes a great deal of enegy to go about making up a complete lie about someone. Kyle also wrote about it in a book and really added on to his original lie. He tried to be shady but of course it leaked out who he was disparaging.

If Chris Lyle would lie, like was proven, what else in that book and his life is a lie? Why would anyone make a movie about a liar like Lyle? Other liars or unless you were ready for the truth about Chris Lyle, do the latter movie. The world has enough lies.

Snipers are not the bravest ones. They are removed and hide when they target their prey. Not saying some are not courageous good soldiers and needed for certain situations. Kyle was after too much glory and he was like a killing machine. From what I've read about him he was a sick person. He has given the good snipers a very bad name. He did much more than destoying Jesse Ventura's reputation and finance. Chris Kyle makes all snipers look bad and he is a pox on the military that over awarded a cold blooded fame seeking killing in an illegal war. He is one of the most sick of war criminals. Men like Cheney live vicariously through types like Kyle.

Hiding behind a gun and shooting at distant targets reminds me of Sarah Palin hiding behind Facebook and shooting off about her targets. It can be the way of cowards.

Our local Democratic Representative set up a group home, obama phones, food cards, and jobs for vets who've fallen through the cracks or fallen on bad times with no family nor friends to support them. I don't know the number of men and women who've passed through, gotten apartments or houses of their own and gained their self esteem. These people couldn't get rides to the Vet hospital before, and now have volunteers to help, three meals a day, etc.

It's so easy to give money, to write a check or donate online. People get suckered by the ease by which they are parted with their money. I've never given money, cash or credit card, to any movement but I've given a lot of food from my garden or canned and frozen food to food banks. There is nothing else an organization can do with actual food than give it to the people that need it.

Cash or credit card donations are too tempting to the people that run PACs or charities or political campaigns. I'll never part with my cash for any cause but am happy to donate time or non-cash resources to any worthy cause. This is just another example in of many in which cash resources are misused.

I won't even drop money in boxes and cans at stores or give to anyone in some sort of pretend uniform, not even if they have a badge.

Through work I gave to Lutheran Social Services because they ran food banks.

Now I don't even do that because I want to make sure the money isn't used for missionary work.

So canned food drives get my support. Toy drives too.

Money? Nope. I don't know where it goes and I won't risk it going to someone's political agenda or just lining someone's pocket.
