Thirty seven year old man accidentally shoots himself in the groin while attending the Alaska State Fair.

Courtesy of Alaska Dispatch:

A 37-year-old man was flown to a hospital Tuesday evening from the Alaska State Fair grounds after he accidentally fired a bullet into his lower pelvic region, according to officials with Palmer’s Department of Public Safety.

The unidentified man, his wife and two young children had left the fair and walked to their vehicle in the parking lot near the equestrian center, said Jon Owen, director of public safety in Palmer.

“The children were buckled into the car and he was getting in,” Owen said. “He took his gun out of the holster to put into the door. His finger went onto the trigger and a round was fired.”

By the way even though this is Alaska firearms are NOT permitted on fair grounds.

I am sure that this idiot believed he was keeping his family safe from a possible attack by rabid corn dogs or something, and decided the rules did not apply to him.

I wonder how safe his family, not to mention his family jewels, feel now?

  1. I still say a daily run down on all the news channels of gun
deaths and accidents would go a long way in opening the
public's eyes---that seem to be glazed over.

This method of "family planning" is NOT recommended! This is only meant to be practiced in Texas, since this country has had enough idiots from there in officeLucky another person was not shot, or killed. Poor kids must be traumatized, not to mention his wife.

Details please. Will this justify his penis envy, or was it just a Fair ball?

NRA Tweets About Kids Having Fun At Shooting Range After Uzi Accident

The NRA Women's Twitter account blasted out suggestions for making practice at the shooting range fun for kids on Wednesday, less than two days after a 9-year-old girl accidentally shot her shooting instructor at an outdoor range in Arizona.

  7. Carrying a loaded gun at a state fair with young children?

I understand from one commenter that we aren't supposed to say fuck, but I hope this fucking idiot can never fuck again.

So this idiot was walking around the Fair, with his wife and two kids, carrying a loaded gun, WITH THE SAFETY OFF?

I hope he blew his package off. Oh wait, that's why he was carrying a gun, to make up for his angry inch.

Question. It is stated above that guns are not permitted at the Alaska State Fair. What are the legal ramifications for defying that? Are there actual criminal charges that can be directed at this guy? I mean if there ever was an open and shut case, this is it.

This tragedy happened in Sarah Palin's new home state. How there's no mention or condolences on her Facebook?

  13. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but my pistol has never accidentally went off, as I use my safety when I go to State Fairs hunting rabid hotdogs.

Ouch, I hate when that happens. I don't carry guns or scissors in my pocket. Duh. And I fold my pocket knife up too.

Congratulations to Doug Ducey for his great win last night in the Arizona gubernatorial primary! The combination of his conservative leadership skills and small business experience will be the right recipe for Arizona!

Is that the same recipe that was used by Joe Miller in Alaska? BWAHAHAHAHAHA, Sarah jumps onto the bandwagon when a candidate already has a substantial lead in the polls and it is close to election day. What a Fraud.

What is wrong in this country that suddenly no one is safe unless carrying a loaded gun? I'm 70 years old, worked for years in downtown Detroit, traveled extensively in Europe and have never felt the need nor the desire to own a gun, much less to tote it around with me, loaded. Are all of these people afraid of President Obama? If so, why? He's never done anything to hurt anyone and has done a lot to make lives better. What a bunch of gun-wielding ninnies Americans have become.

    1. The questions Michael Moore asked in Bowling for Columbine still remain: why do Americans have so many guns? Why are they so afraid? My personal take is that we (collectively, and statistically, not individually) cannot tolerate the Other--any one other than us. In a nation founded on diversity, this is especially, and ironically, depressing.

I've never seen the US as founded on diversity. I see it as a country founded on greed and aquisitiveness. We pillaged and plundered from one coast to another.

The phrasing is what gets me. "A round was fired" or " the gun went off". They aren't magic, folks, nor sentient. Someone fired it.

Writing about gun "accidents" in this passive way seems to shift responsibility.

Speaking of which, I assume this IQ test dropout was one of those "responsible gun owners " the NRA is always touting?

You're right, it was no accident. He deliberately put an unsecured loaded weapon in his pants and deliberately disregarded safe practices when pulling it out. Fate didn't make him do either of those things.

An accident is something you can't avoid.

I left the fair with four kids and my mother, shortly after this happened. Same exit, same parking lot. He could have shot one of us! The kids could not believe that anyone would bring a loaded gun to a fair. This guy is definitely not smarter than a fifth grader!

Have any of you ever been to Alaska? There are bears (3 kinds) and moose roaming through towns. If you live in Alaska, you need to have a gun!

Of course, you also need to know how to handle it safely. I hope the man is alright .
