Establishment Republicans reaching out to donors for help in electing Congressmen who will actually do their jobs instead of allowing more of "the crazies" to get elected.

Courtesy of Fortune:

Back on May 20, the National Republican Congressional Committee — the House Republicans’ campaign arm — announced it was launching a “Drive to 245,” a Babe Ruthian exercise in shot calling that implied the party would net an additional 11 seats in the November midterms.

Twenty-five days out from the elections, that remains an uncertain proposition. Republicans are sure to pad their majority, though gains in the single digits look more likely. As Greg Walden, the Oregon Republican who runs the NRCC, tells Fortune, “It is attainable, but it’s a pretty high goal.”

But the Republican boast was never really meant to nail the balloting results. Instead, it was a clever blend of hype and hope served up to major donors about what could follow the election: For GOP benefactors in New York, Washington and beyond who’re past tired of self-destructive antics by Republicans reactionaries, the party tailored the push to conjure the dream of a reinvigorated Speaker John Boehner. Given the room, he could stiff-arm the tiny, troublesome right flank that nearly pitched the country into a debt default three years ago and generally made major headaches out of otherwise simple chores. One Republican operative spells out the subtext of the pitch to the corporate pragmatists the GOP is hitting up for campaign cash: “We want to give Boehner a governable majority so the crazies you hate will be irrelevant.”

Republican leaders can’t call elected representatives on their own team “crazies,” but they can make a broader case. “Growing the majority means we’ve got a bigger pool to draw from to go do the work of the country,” Walden says.

I think that in many of the primaries we have already seen this strategy at work. Which is why seemingly sane Republicans have been easily beating challengers backed by the likes of Ted Cruz and Sarah Palin.

Personally I would simply prefer more Democrats be elected, but I have to say that even more Republicans who are willing to compromise and move this country forward rather than spend their time obstructing progress and attempting please the paint chip eaters, would be a welcome change.

I think it is beyond obvious that SOMETHING needs to change. And sooner rather than later.

I don't trust these Republicans shuffling their new mantra at all! They have just wasted (Boehner and McConnell especially in the U.S. Congress) almost two terms obstructing and disrespecting President Obama. Boehner and McConnell were/are the worst and I don't trust either of them as far as I can throw them! They blame the Teabaggers - which is total baloney. They could have stopped them in their tracks in the very beginning had they wanted!

They are just trying to get votes in November and that is ONLY what this is about. They will continue to obstruct for the final two years of President Obama's presidency.

Vote in November and be sure to vote anti Republican - in the U.S. Congress, Governors and Legislatures! They have done nothing but harm our country and make us look horrible to the world. We are near being a third world country because of Republicans. I detest their party!

I know this is a silly comparison - but could not resist.
Once when camping in Yosemite my husband observed a group of children trying to lasso a large raccoon. He tried to warn the parents of the children about this - but they did not see the problem. The children were actually able to get a noose around the animal and then all hell broke loose. The rope was rather log and the animal not too close to the children - but he was furious. They did not know whether to hold onto the rope or let it go. The idiot parents were immediately concerned for the children - a bit late don't you think?
I guess the moral is - be careful what you ask for - you just might get it.

      Pat,
???? Did they let it go? Did it bite the kids? And why the heck were they trying to "catch" old rocky?

They finally let go of the rope and the animal ambled off. It did not harm the children. My husband notified a ranger so someone would be on the look out to try to get the rope off. As to why they wanted to catch it - I honestly think they - and their idiot parents - knew nothing about wild animals. When my husband cautioned the parents about what the children were doing - they just shrugged it off.

Too little too late. Boehner (AKA Boner) is blowing smoke NOW, when it was HIS job to corral the teatards and explain how things work, but hey, he's one of them. Didn't he leave it to Democrats to work out a "plan b" on the government shutdown?

The right loves to vilify Nancy Pelosi, but she had control that Boehner could only dream about. Granted, the crazies on the far left are a lot fewer in number and less crazy than those on the far right, but she had her people in line and got enormous amounts of legislation passed.
