In the latest attempt to woo younger, more diverse voters, a Republican group has released an ad campaign comparing voting for various Republican gubernatorial candidates to Say Yes To The Dress, a reality show centered around women picking the right wedding gown.
One ad, paid for by the College Republican National Committee, shows a young woman trying on a wedding dress and raving about Gov. Rick Scott (R-FL) as her mother urges her to pick Charlie Crist instead.
“Mom, this is my decision. And I see a better future with Rick Scott,” the bride says. At the end, she, her mother, and her African American maid of honor squeal and toast with champagne.
Facing dismal approval numbers with women, minorities, and college students, Republican Party strategists have publicly urged candidates to talk to these voters in a new way. So far, however, the script hasn’t changed much. “Say Yes To Rick Scott” comes on the heels of another recent ad by Americans for Shared Prosperity that compares President Obama to an abusive boyfriend. “The goal here is to communicate with women voters in a way that outside groups and campaigns haven’t,” Americans for Shared Prosperity head John Jordan told Politico with the release of the ad.
By relegating them to an outdated stereotype?
What's next?
Will the Republicans attempt to blame anger at their party's platform on "that time of the month?"
Will they suggest that women should vote for them because they would make it so hard to compete against men in the workplace that they would be forced to stay at home and be better mothers?
Or perhaps they simply want to slip them a roofie, take their unconscious body to the polls, "help" them to vote, and then try to convince them afterward that were sending out signals that they wanted that to happen.
Seriously, how could any woman vote for these idiots?
OMG! That is hilarious! How out of touch and just plain dorky! Those wacky republicans....hahahahaha!
ReplyDeleteOMG, This is the same ad that they are showing in MI, only they Changed the name to Rick Snyder!!!! Our Local News Media Just featured it. WTF? http://www.freep.com/story/opinion/columnists/nancy-kaffer/2014/10/01/rick-snyder-gop-dress-ad-mark-schauer/16550589/
ReplyDeleteWow - unbelievable that they are using the same ad, but changing the names
DeleteI saw the story yesterday. Guess they are being "fiscal conservatives" made one ad run it across the USA. Really pathetic what they think of women, I hope we women show them how the "girls" vote.
DeleteVote Mark Schauer our next governor of MI !!! One less limo ride to Lansing for the nerd.
...Vote for Governor Rick Snyder (R-MI), girls, because wedding dresses are all you understand.
“Rick Snyder is becoming a trusted brand!” Or wedding dress. Which is the same as voting to you girls.

...How? for the same reason ANYBODY votes Republican -- they are brainwashed idiots who do not think for themselves. And if Democrats don't vote, they will win. It turns my stomach to think of America under all those Republicans. We will be raped!
ReplyDeleteWHAT. A. STUPID. AD!
ReplyDeleteEPIC FAIL!!
Yes, and these are the guys (a few gals) that dont' believe in contraception or abortion. They want to keep their women barefoot, pregnant and at home raising kids!
ReplyDeleteThey still don't understand (or relate to) women and the fact that times have changed! We are not living as Americans once did back in the 1950's!
I work the polls here in TX and there are sooo many women that arrive with list in hand and vote how her husband/boyfriend tells her to makes me sick. Comeon ladies, you're better than that.
ReplyDeleteThey have no right to complain. They are already submitting to someone else, letting them do the thinking and the deciding.
DeleteNo way would anyone dictate to me. Sorry, ladies. Even if he threatens you, it's a secret ballot. How is he supposed to know how you voted?
I can see the husbands and boyfriends taking the absentee ballots, filling them out and then having their women "just sign the damned thing."
Texas. Anyone surprised?
This ad turned up in Michigan too where Rick Snyder is looking for a second term. I hope it will be denied him.

I am a registered democrat, but may have to change my political affiliation. The republicans really get me. I love shiny things, and shoes and shopping and frilly dresses! And that Rick is so dreamy! I wish I could care about issues like men do, but honestly, it just makes my head hurt! I am so glad the GOP speaks to me in a way I can relate to! Thank you GOP!
ReplyDeleteI hear you! Tried that thinking thing, made my head hurt. So I went for a manicure and bought a dress to match. I feel so much better. Now when is the election again? Can I still vote the R's if my name starts with a D?
DeleteSo the common thread in this new approach to women is that they are indeed mere appendages to men. Bad boyfriend, good boyfriend, squeal squeal, focus on the men. Sadly, it still works on so many. Let's all close our eyes and create these ads with men in the starring roles. Hmm.....
ReplyDeleteTheir cluelessness is exceeded only by their perceived cluelessness of the voter bloc they wish to woo. It's fucking hilarious and sad, like watching some geriatric strunz doing the twist in 1962.
ReplyDeleteAre you sure that isn't an SNL skit? I can't believe it is real. How embarrassing!
