New poll shows that liberals want Elizabeth Warren for their 2016 presidential candidate over Hillary Clinton by double digits. Which really should come as no surprise to anyone.

Courtesy of CNN:

Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren -- not Hillary Clinton -- is the top progressive choice for president in 2016, according to a new poll.

In fact, Clinton doesn't even make second place. Forty two percent of respondents favor Warren, and Vermont Independent Senator Bernie Sanders also edges out Clinton with 24% compared to her 23%, according to results from the 2016 Presidential Pulse Poll commissioned by progressive grassroots organization Democracy for America.

Okay now before everybody gets their hemp panties in a twist, please remember that this poll was conducted by Democracy for America, which is to liberal politics what the Tea Party Express is to conservative politics.

I am in total agreement that Elizabeth Warren would make an amazing candidate in 2016, but the facts are that she does not want the job. (At least not yet.)

And though I adore Bernie Sanders, let's face it on TV he often looks like somebody woke your grandfather up from his nap and stuck a microphone in his face.

He is great on the politics, but the packaging might be a problem. (Yes I know it is not supposed to be a beauty contest, but there is a reason the Republicans chose Mitt Romney and it is not due to his mastery of the facts.)

I think, to be honest, that there is no real doubt that Hillary is going to be the candidate whether she is the liberal's first choice or not.  And let's face it, they will turn out to vote for her, no problem.

Now in my favorite political fantasy she invites Warren to join her on the ticket. But at this point I don't know if that is feasible or not.

If it were to happen, I would say that the turn out may far exceed the turnout for Barack Obama in the 2008 election, and it would quite literally cause many Republicans to soil themselves in response.

  1. You say, "I think, to be honest, that there is no real doubt that Hillary is going to be the candidate whether she is the liberal's first choice or not. And let's face it, they will turn out to vote for her, no problem."

Like to make a little wager?
    On both counts.

I won a bet that Jimmy Carter would win -- over worse odds.

      Republican chiming in:

Hillary is too polarizing and has zero crossover appeal.

Debbie Waserman Schultz is the Democrats best candidate. The GOP has no answer, no counter, and privately admire her gumption. Even Elizabeth Warren has more crossover appeal than Hillary. Both come across as having surgical steel spines when under attack by the far right.

I will not vote for Hillary. She comes across as someone who bends and cracks (not breaks) when under attack. This is sad for me, because I truly want to support her.

Debbie Wasserman Shultz? Please step away from that bong. She should be accepting some of the blame for Democratic losses in this recent mid term election.

    3. DWS should be fired from the DNC, period. The midterm strategy was horrendous, and the buck stops with her. I am/was a big fan, but after the no effort midterms, I don't think she has what it takes

People will not turn out for Hillary like Gryph likes to pretend. She is very disliked by a large portion of Democrats, and forget about the south.

9:46 AM Republicans are pushing someone for 2016 that they know won't win. They are afraid of Hillary Clinton because they have no one they can put up against her with the experience, education and knowledge. Hillary Clinton would beat the shit out of them in every area of campaigning, debating, etc.

Meanwhile, we can enjoy watching President Obama outwit the Republicans for the next two years!

I love Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders. However, we will need their voices in the Senate beyond 2016.

  3. But since every other poll in months shows that at least 70% of Democrats favor Hillary, does this mean that "progressives", however defined, are only a small and unrepresentative sub-set of Democrats?

  4. O/T -- but seriously thinking about the reason for lower gas prices --

They are the Oil syndicates' way of making alternative energy appear too-expensive.

They will take a cut in their profits to keep their industry looking like the only economically viable alternative.

Demand has fallen which is causing a glut to occur. OPEC countries have for the most part refused to cut production. Something not discussed is fuel efficiency standards being raised under Obama and hybrid cars becoming more prominent which has helped lower oil demand.

The speculators were hoarding the supplies to create a false shortage. There was no more storage. An oil tanker from Alaska had to return from the West Coast because there was no storage for the oil. That was a couple years ago. I suspect that the speculators are drowning in their own greed.

  5. Warren wants to be where she is, in a position to DO something, to effect change in the most direct direct way. She, I suspect, would detest the monster ride of campaigning for President, a full-time job of self-promotion. She's made it crystal clear: she doesn't want to be President. VP is even less appealing, for the same reasons. Her very appeal to all of us is that she is very, very smart, direct, no bulls**t, no silly posturing...in other words, not a politician. She's a soldier in the trenches for the people. Promotion to powerful committees would suit her best, and I think she's aiming for that. Let the politicians flounder around in their nonsense, she's going to work and working hard. Gotta love 'er.

She has made great strides even in the short time she's been in the Senate. I suspect she will move up quickly once the Democrats regain control in 2016.

As much as I'd love to see her run on a ticket with Hillary Clinton, she can have a tremendous impact on our government if she stays right where she is.

Anyone commenting in a poll now is a political junkie like us. Clnton will do better later because of name recognition.

Elizabeth Warren got into politics for the reason that instead of being given the job that she created, she was shoved out of the way after she did all the work. She is not going to want to run for anything, she wants to get shit done.

She'll be much more effective as a Senator than as POTUS.

Sherrod Brown would make a great candidate -- good-looking, young, articulate, progressive.......just saying!

Keep Warren and Sanders doing what they do so well, and let Clinton and Webb handle the scutwork in the political trenches.

Here's a bonus side effect once we elect our first female president: Sarah Palin's lame 'first' Repulbican VP nom status will just vaporize to absolute nothingness. That will leave her with only the legacy of being the lazy and stupid LUNATIC who had a shot at endangering this country.

  11. Doesn't want the job? How is that a bug? It's a feature! Fun fact (well, it's my opinion): Al Gore secretly never wanted the job, either. Eagle Scout that he is, he ran (and may again) by sense of duty only.

I agree - having Clinton/Warren on the same ticket would break voting records! Time to give the women a chance! I'm sick of these bloated, old white men running everything!

Hillary Clinton and Elizabeth Warren would be an exciting ticket in 2016 and would win!!! I hope Hillary picks her, but we shall see.

Especially love the idea of having POTUS Hillary Clinton and POTUS Bill Clinton together in the White House! Bill is much loved throughout the world and would have wonderful input if Hillary needed it! What an exciting time it would be!

  16. I would love to have Warren or Sanders or both.

But the reality is that Hillary has the best chance of beating whatever Republican the GOP puts up against here. And I don't want to take a chance of a Republican president in the White House for as long as possible. Like a few decades would be nice.

It won't happen Griff, Hillary won't choose another woman with her on the ticket for 2016, too risky, she'll choose a male in my opinion.
