Where Senator Al Franken tries to explain to Ted Cruz what Net Neutrality means.

Courtesy of Raw Story:

Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) struggled on Sunday to explain to Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) why he had been wrong to assert that net neutrality was “Obamacare for the Internet,” and that it would stifle innovation.

But Franken told CNN’s Candy Crowley that Cruz had the concept of net neutrality “completely wrong.”

“CNN’s website, [and] a blogger in Duluth, Minnesota travels at the same speed… The New York Times, their website travels the same speed,” Franken pointed out. “That’s the way that it’s been from the beginning. And we want to keep it that way.”

“He has it completely wrong, he just doesn’t understand what this issue is,” the Minnesota Democrat said of Cruz. “We’ve had net neutrality the entire history of the Internet.”

Franken observed that “Obamacare was government program that fixed something, that changed things. This is about reclassifying something so it stays the same. This would keep things exactly the same as they’ve been.”

Now I think of Al Franken as a national treasure. He is one of the smartest guys in politics right now, though to be honest that is kind of a low bar.

And when it comes to explaining things he is perhaps one of the very best. Perhaps even better than the "Explainer in Chief" himself, Bill Clinton.

But I can guarantee you that this is not going to change the mind of Ted Cruz one little bit.

And I will even give Cruz credit by saying that he actually DOES understand that what he said is ignorant and wrong.

However he also realizes that his target audience are a bunch of simple minded nose picking morons, who believe that the only thing the internet is good for is finding naked pictures of girls that remind them of their first cousins so that they can touch themselves.

So they will believe without question whatever ridiculous lie that Ted Cruz tells them.

When President Obama said you didn't build this, he was correct. The internet was built for the military. And it had its first success when one college connected to another on October 29, 1969. I turned 14 on that very day, but this new technology was all hush hush and no one knew about it.

Al Gore was the Senator that sponsored the legislation that made the internet available to all. And of course, the right wing lied about what he said and spread the lie that Al Gore said he invented the internet. Al never said that. What Al said is that he sponsored the legislation that led to the internet being available to everyone.

And I will be damned if the corporations win this fight. Our tax dollars created the internet and it should be there on an equal basis for all.

Well stated and so true! Al Gore took a lot of crap over the right wing lies trying to discredit his efforts.

All the wingnuts need to know is that the President is for net neutrality. They don't care if it's good for them. They don't care if it will protect them and make their lives better than if it's gone. They don't even need to understand what it is.

All they know is if the Muzzlin, commie, Kenyan usurper is FOR it, they're AGAINST it.

We've come a long way since Senator Ted Stevens called it the internet "tubes."

OT - Just saw another few "Living Alaska" episodes; homes in Wasilla and Anchorage were viewed again, and it's still amazing to see the roads and views from real properties, and was hoping to see Gryphen driving down the road with a coffee latte. Amazing scenery and of course, the usual moose grabbing a few leaves in the back of some of the homes. Must be a little hard to dodge the moose pucks.

    Sorry, went off topic. Proceed.

Those shows can be fun to watch but they are all staged. On "Buying Alaska" the people are not actually looking for homes but are hired by the show to drive around and pretend like they are interested in buying. My friend is an agent and has been on "Buying Alaska" a few times; they all get paid both for showing and looking at the homes.

"Living Alaska" does casting calls for actual people that have recently moved here or are thinking about moving here so a few of those people have actually made the move but those who haven't yet get a paid vacation from HGTV to come and look at some homes in AK. Some choose to eventually move here and some don't.

It's still good entertainment and does visit many scenic locales, but it's about as real as the rest of "reality TV", meaning not real at all. It does always crack me up though when they are in our area and act as if they are in the middle of nowhere when they are 2 miles from the Fred Meyer!

Can't wait to see how McConnell is going to deal with Cruz. It's going to be a real grinder.

Well, Ted Cruz' ignorance is not surprising. Most of the GOP members of Congress think that the internet is made up of a lot of "tubes." Al Franken is absolutely brilliant. He can explain things to make them clear to everybody. Maybe even a Republican. You know all of those studies that show why conservatives are the way they are; I think they also must show that conservatives, at least of the US variety, are also quite stupid. God bless Al Franken.

When President Obama spoke about net neutrality recently he was also very clear about what it means and what his plan for it is. Remember that the ACA was a lot simpler before the GOP got to meddling with it before the law was finally passed. God help us. The GOP is now in charge of Congress!
