Woman purchases gun in anticipation of violent protests in Ferguson, instead shoots herself in the head.

Courtesy of CNN:

A woman appears to have accidentally fatally shot herself in the head with a gun bought to prepare for possible Ferguson-related unrest, according to sources briefed on the police investigation.

The female victim, identified in a police report as Becca Campbell, 26, was a passenger in a car involved in an auto accident.

Her 33-year-old boyfriend was driving, the sources told CNN. The boyfriend, who wasn't identified, told police that the couple had bought a gun because of fears of unrest related to the pending grand jury decision on the shooting of Michael Brown, the sources said.

He told investigators that as they drove late Friday night, the victim waved a gun, jokingly saying the couple were ready for Ferguson, the sources said.

He ducked to get out of the way of the gun and accidentally rear-ended another car.

He said the accident caused the gun to go off and she was struck by a bullet in the head, the sources said. The victim was rushed to a hospital but died.

That may be one of the dumbest death by handgun stories I have ever read.

Guns in the hands of untrained amateurs does not make anybody safer. But it certainly puts the person with the gun, and everybody around them, at greater risk.

It kind of makes me wonder how many bullets will fly once this Grand Jury decision is released.

Good. Now there's one less idiot to wave a gun around.
If you're going to be stupid, do harm only to yourself. I think that's one of the commandments.

Agreed, biggest oops ever, too funny. Guess she doesn't have to worry about the verdict now.

Doesn't matter whose "side" she was on, she was an idiot waving around a loaded gun and she got what was coming to her. That isn't appropriate behavior, no matter who you are.

From her facebook Sept. 2 2014
Sounds like she might have been protesting if she was still alive.

I have to say I am a true believer that the NRA is really being backed by a secret movement that wants all the dumb white people to off themselves with readily available weapons. You
know--- because they are afeared of all of us blah people . . . .

  8. I can understand a person living there perhaps being frightened about what might happen, but what I can't understand is why someone, who presumably didn't think she needed a gun before now, decides now is the time.

I even less understand people who think just having the gun protects them.

The gun doesn't help you if you cannot master it. And mastering it takes time and practice. How is anyone buying a gun going to be able to use it effectively for their own safety with only, say, one week of practice?

They won't. The people buying guns now who claim they are doing so for their own safety, are more likely, as in this story, to cause harm to themselves or their loved ones than they are to use those weapons to 'protect themselves'.

Gosh, one might think the NRA is all for ginning up hated and fear in order to sell more guns.

You just know those out-of-state freaks that Jay Nixon brought in and armed to the teeth are just dying to kill them a black boy or two.

The Sarah Palin Cult freaks will be slavering over this, they'll be glued to their computers, you betcha.

This is the perfect example of what happens to a person when terror and fear overtake any semblance of sanity. I'd like to know why it was pre announced that a verdict was reached while not giving the outcome? This is WHY people like this lady felt the overwhelming need for "protection". Shouldn't the laws for grand juries be tighter than, say, a jury verdict like OJ Simpson's? This is like saying "We've got an answer, but we're not going to address it till we feel like?
All it does is causes more fear and more sales of guns and ammo. They;ve been at this since august, and we're about an hour from knowing. If all hell breaks loose, it would break loose if they announced it four hours or an hour later.

These types of stories make me think the person is suicidal. WHo could be that stupid? I've been around guns all my life and it takes coordination for a GROWN person to shoot her/himself.
